Why don't we extend tailpipe length and use a HEPA filter

Why don't we extend tailpipe length and use a HEPA filter before releasing it into the atmosphere? Effectively it would reduce the need for faggot "green" cars.

Do you really think that a filter will reduce the greenhouse output of an engine? If you want to reduce it then you need to capture the gasses, meaning that your filter would take up the entire boot (or trunk if you're a yank) and would need to be replaced every few hours of driving. The logistics of that alone would kill any possible benefit.
