Do it. Tell them about yourself.

Do what the question asked, add a tiny bit of backstory. Where you were born, your education, etc. And your motivation to be in IT, find a good reason to be in this field, not just "Because it's interesting". But find something you want to improve on the IT field and focus on fixing it. This is what employers want to hear

Problem is
I dont have any real IT experience, but im in college and have an A+ cert. how do i sell that into it

"I know the bare-fucking-minimum about everything but I'm dedicated to learning"

Honesty is your best approach with those credentials, imo.
>>
>>54351918
You are self-motivated, not shy with people, able to prioritize/triage and juggle many tasks at once, a quick learner (new software shows up all the time along with random updates for one thing breaking everything else) and know to at least try to restart the fucking computer.

And here folks, we see how the mere sight of a hat saying that we should improve america sends the bernout into a fit of rage. Someday he will learn

What they typically mean when they ask that question is - "What are you doing in your professional life?"

Things like, education, certificates, clubs, member of any engineering society, prior work experience, etc.

If you were entry level:

I have X hobbies, I enjoy committing to Y on github, I'm passionate about Z features and ideologies.

If you are a sysadmin say that you enjoy log diving to piece together a story so that you can give context for everything that is going on etc.

If you care about anything this isn't a hard question. Talk about your passion if you don't have experience, they care about that more anyways.

you tell them about yourself in 30 seconds

if you spend more than 30 seconds answering you're going into too much detail, less and you either aren't answering the question or you're the least noteworthy person alive

if you have no professional experience because you're still a student, summarize your academic experience and accomplishments

don't assume they've read your resume, call attention to the important things you've done that they may be interested in

use verifiable statements and avoid bullshit platitudes like "i'm a hard worker"

this is one of the few questions you always know they'll ask so practice answering it the mirror so you don't have a chance to fuck it up by winging it

good luck

Why is this such a hard question to answer? Bring up recent events and things you've done, that doesn't involve this fucking place, or anything offensive.

I brought up guitar-playing, having a dog, being engaged, and custom building computers. Then I proceeded to ask my manager if he had any plans for the weekend towards the end of the interview when he asked me if there was anything else.

but you have to learn to to read a conversation though. If the interviewer is being very stoic and doesn't sound personal, don't ask about weekend plans.
>>
>>54352323
you asked them what they were doing on the weekend?
Is this what normies really do?
>>
>>54352323
if someone i interviewed ever did this i'd think they weren't very interested in the job

i'd also follow up and ask them to tell me about their professional experience (the question they avoided answering)

i have to throw a big "ISHYGDDT" on this advice

it's nearly always the first question you're asked, answer it as if you're being asked by someone who's trying to decide if you're worth hiring
>>
>>54352323
>infotech, a field filled with autistic introverts who function best when everything is properly specified
>interviewer almost guaranteed to start with a vague non-question and expect you to read their mind about what they really want
Gee, I dunno, why is it such a hard question?
>>
>>54351858

Just google "Top 10 Interview Questions"

You'll thank me later-- remember you don't have to answer their question directly as long as you're talking about yourself and making yourself sound good

best of luck anon

You're a boring person then. Only caring about their work ethic is a small part of a person. No one wants either side of the spectrum, but a blend of both. Any dumb fuck monkey can turn screws, but finding someone with personality, that's different. Besides it's all about context. If you ask all these technical questions then follow up with so tell me about "you" and not what you wrote (lied) on paper.

I can tell someone is full of shit if they apply for an IT job that requires excellent customer service skills and they're too afraid to talk about the things they do.

If you don't care about them as a person why bother being a manger, who is in charge of people?
>>
>>54353108

in the few jobs I've had, I've never been asked the obligatory "so tell me about yourself" first. I lose interest in "managers" who read from a script.

No one ever fucking asks this; it's like the boogeyman of interviews.
>>
>>54353169
everyone asks this
>>
>>54353169
I always got asked it on phone interviews for first round HR talks.

There's also the
>Tell me your strengths
>Why do you want this job
>Name one time your team failed

>>54352812
>you don't have to answer their question directly as long as you're talking about yourself and making yourself sound good
You'd make a great politician's assistant.
>>
>>54351858
I've never had anyone ask that question in any interview. But on the off chance that they do, based on the fact that you're asking 4chan, don't tell them the truth.
>>
>>54351858
>"So tell me about yourself"
Well, how about: "Im someone who needs a job and you're someone who has a job. Now do the math."
Why in the earth do they even ask that?
