Why is Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 so bloated?
It's messy, a variety of functions that God knows what they are used for and laggy (especially when debugging the code).
What's the whole reason behind all of this, why does it even exist?
What IDE would you recommend for C++;

Visual Studio is very advanced once you're familiar with it, though agree it's heavyweight.
Recently I've been using the JetBrains C++ IDE, early days but pretty good. Miss features from VS though.
Visual Studio of big because of the endless features. A half decent computer could run it give anyway so what's the big deal?

my computer is wooden, that's what's the big deal

From my experience, if you even try to include Boost, Intellisense becomes crippled and useless in 2015.

you ain't seen shit

damn.

I don't mind VS being so huge but i hate when it doesn't uninstall everything it installed in the first place

valid point

Visual Studio 15
No, not Visual Studio 2015. Visual Studio 15.
It's the new one, after 2015.
It's in preview state, but it's much thinner and has a much better installation experience. Has limited support at the moment as it runs on .Net Core instead of the full .Net Framework 4.6.

>Currently supports only .NET desktop apps, C++, Unity, and Python. We’ll bring you a lot more in the future!

Don't mind me, just linking a vid of 2 .Net dev leads making fun of exactly that and showing off that not everyone at Microsoft lacks brain.

really informative kind sir, thanks for your effort!
If you enjoy typing and prefer low latency over features (and bloat), vi (nvi), vim and neovim are good choices.
In the proprietary software land, IntelliJ IDEA also comes with a low-latency mode.
Pavel Fatin wrote a post "Typing with pleasure" about my argument recently.[1]

Install visual studio enterprise - make sure you uncheck everything except what you strictly need...
once install is finished use revo uninstaller to remove sql...
....
program.
What do I win? I haven't installed visual studio yet - I bet when I'll do it it'll be two pages long.

how come it's so clean for you?

Even on my Core i7 6700 build, it can be pretty fucking beefy. I've noticed with 2015 Update 2, every now and again, it will hang up for 5-10 seconds on EVERY. SINGLE. ACTION.
Open another .cs file? 5-10 seconds.
Switch to a currently open .cs file? 5-10 seconds again.
This will keep happening until I save and close my projects and reopen them.
However, in terms of features and general efficiency overall, Visual Studio is still unmatched.

I feel you bro, I recently cleaned one of our old development machines that has been in use since 2012. It's had VS 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015 installed on it. Yeah, that shit gets pretty out of hand.

I installed enterprise which allowed me to customize windows to my needs without tools or complicated shit just few clicks and group pilicies.
Xcode > text editor >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Visual Shit

Thanks man didn't know shit about '15 going to install it now.
Used 2015 preview before and had 0 fucking problems, literally felt like after full release nothing new was added - same experience.
I really like QtCreator, even if you aren't using Qt framework. Interface is pretty straightforward, you can find what you are looking for without those thousand options and right click menus from Visual Studio.
