Did Rolex actually sell that or is that one of those awful bastardizations on ebay where they take a pocketwatch and stick lugs on it and sell it as a 50mm wristwatch? I've seen a lot of those pocketwatch conversions with perfectly good Omega watches and it's disgusting.

>>54326480
It doesn't fit on anything.
>>54326543
You know that the manufacturers themselves did that, right?
>>54326436
I'm thinking about getting a quartz wall clock wiht the dial of real WW2 German U-Boat bathometer.
Glows in the dark. Thoughts?
The seller is selling 2 models, this one...
>>54326598
It's popular now to take vintage pocketwatches and recase them into a case with lugs or attach lugs onto the original case. It's a great way to ruin a nice vintage pocketwatch and make a really silly looking watch with a movement which was never meant to be worn on the wrist.
I mean look at this nasty nasty dogshit.
>>54326610
...and this one.
Which one should I pick?
>>54326543
Weren't a lot these conversions done by their owner when they were new? I mean there was a huge demand for wristwatches on the front line.
>>54326629
dang
>>54326610
Why not get a real submarine clock instead of some frankensteined shit? I don't know about German clocks, but I've seen plenty of Vostok and a few Seiko ship's clocks on eBay so there may be something.

Enjoy your cancer, anon.
Got this cheap rodina a few days ago, and in general felt the reserve was low, but just assumed I hadn't wound it up enough.
Yesterday I went clubbing, so I certainly moved a lot and today when I woke up, it had stopped. (Granted, I slept like 10 hours)
Should I send it back?
>>54326757
Maybe it's the automatic winding that sucks. Have you tried handwinding it to full and check when it stops?
>>54326824
Uhm. I'll try that. Set it at 12 and see when it stops. Automatic windup is also super noisy, might be an indicator of it not being efficient.
>>54326629

>>54327787
The GMT master. If for no other reason than it being nearly 2mm thinner than the milgauss. Non maxi case still superior.
>>54327787
A batman GMT, easily.
The new Daytona in white looks really good though, that would be my second pick.
So what's the way to go sub 100$ quartz?
I like the Timex Weekender design but something so loud would drive me insane.
>>54328052
Seiko Type II quartz with the quartzpenis icon.
Or any other of the early Seiko quartzes with that icon. (Silverwave,Lord,King,Grand to name a few)
>>54328081
And if we leave vintage/preowned out of the question?
I'm not against them but I'd rather purchase something new.
>>54328116
Why not?
They are cheapest high-end quartz watches you can get, especially at that price range.
>>54328052

Is there anything I should know before buying a penis quartz?
I'm seeing one that I like on Ebay but it doesn't say anything about any recent improvements they've done to it (battery replacement, etc)
Where would I buy things like that so I can do basic maintenance?
Never owned a watch before.
>>54328690
Make sure it's as clean as possible, with minimal dirt and no rust at all. Check for one that hasn't been repolished (case edges look sharp)., and the dial has not been repainted (There is a few on ebay which are obvious redials, those being sold in the 500~1000$ range)
You could ask your local jeweler to replace the battery if you're unsure yourself.
Post a pic here if you're unsure.

I just went on eBay looking for some old omegas once and discovered a bunch of pocketwatch conversions. I was sort of appalled so I looked into it and it seems that there is at least some community on the internet interested in doing this stuff. Maybe "popular" was not the word to use for it, I didn't really gather statistics on what portion of the online watch community approves of this stuff.
Sorry to have offended you with my poor choice of words, I'll do my best not to trigger you in the future.

Not only are they making ugly watches, but they are ruining a working piece of history.
>>54329879
>I was under the impression that the Ray was slightly bigger so I dismissed it
You were probably only thinking of the Ray XL.
Ray and Mako are the same diameter. Same thickness. Though something about the Ray's design does make it bulkier to look at side-by-side.

What am I supposed to be seeing here besides gross fake yellow lume and leather on a diver?
Also why does the signed crown not screw down with the logo upright? Mine ends up rotated 90 degrees to the left just like yours so I guess it's consistently wrong, so why couldn't they just get it right?
>>54330499
>What am I supposed to be seeing here
His poor attemp at humor.
I like the yellowish color, something different, but yeah, leather on a diver is shite.
Not only silly, it also does not fit the case style and just looks tastless. Steel is the best choice, or rubber, which i hate for the looks tho.
>>54330499
its the OVR, the lume is just that way.
i wanted an ocean one but without the hideous cyclops, so i got the OVR. It's bad because somehow I ended getting a khaki/grayish dial instead of black, as stated on their site.
>>54330628
If you wanted ugly fake-vintage then you should be happy you got a light black dial rather than deep black, right? Most diver dials aren't really super dark, they're usually matte dark gray.
>>54330210
That'd be a million times more sexy if that wood block were some kind of dark brushed metal.
I'm thinking anodized aluminum.
>>54330681
Would be nice, if you ponyloving faggot could stop thinking in black and white scenarios.
>ugly fake-vintage
Why everything has to be an attemp to copy vintage, as soon as it looks like it, even slightly? Steinhart just wanted to stand out from the thousands of submariner homages and went with a different color.
And what aro you even complaining about, poorfag? the watch costs like only 400$, they never claimed it to be a vintage styled watch, so plz calm your tits.
here's a pic. so you can rage some more, this one is actually labeled vintage. And i love it. The domed glass makes it even better looking.
>>54331244
>Steinhart just wanted to stand out from the thousands of submariner homages and went with a different color
No, they went with it to make it look like aged vintage lume which is what I would call copying vintage all right.

Its quatz so its not that big an issue. In general though take a look and see if its got the original wristband - something you can do by comparing it to catalogs or simply just seeing if the clasp has the signature KQ on it. Likewise you can also see if the crown has been replaced if it lacks a penis.
Also they arent particularly waterproof either so be careful when doing things like washing your hands and the like

Im pretty sure that anon was referring to this one which has been unsold for ages.
As for your comment regarding price it varies a lot in penis watches, for the low end quartz II ones that would be decent buy but for king or grand quartzs that have textured dials and aren't beaten up really would have to start getting into the 150-250 US range

My Citizen Promaster NY0040 just came in the mail and looks quite good, the very slightly rotated chapter ring doesn't even trigger me. The more time it spends on my wrist, he more I like it. Even the rubber strap looks fine to me.
I know the movement it uses doesn't hack but is there a way I can stop the seconds to synchronise it to the atomic time and check the accuracy? I mean, you can stop the seconds on an Amphibia when the power reserve is low but it didn't seem to work on this model, I have only tried once though.
>>54338337

Unless you are reasonably good at deducing the condition of a watch from limited pics, and can deduce what the seller is trying to say by google translating the listing, AND know a lot about the model you are interested in, AND are willing to have any watch you get serviced, i would avoid it.

What you're doing is just forcing the balance wheel to stop. Releasing the pressure makes the hairspray contract or expand again and the watch will tick again.
At most, you might barely make the watch run slower or faster than usual for a bit.

>>54340156
Alright m80s, it's fixed, so I guess it's mine now. I still have to show it to the watchmaker-sensei, this busted watch was kinda a test for a job.
The problem was the coil, it looked foreign to begin with (burnt sienna color, instead of the usual copper for a Miyota 2035), so I tested it. The resistance was wildly out of spec, 3 mega-ohm instead of the normal 2 kilo-ohm, so I replaced it with a healthy coil from a donor. The fourth wheel was also busted, with the wheel being separated from its pinion.
Finally, brown or black leather? Croc or plain? Unfortunately it's gold with a silver dial, so I'll want to make it more masculine with the proper strap.

Though, gotta love having a mechanical chrono that resets to 0. Shame it has an incorrect replacement hand, but it looks alright.
>>54346418
I doubt any of those has a mecaquartz movement.
>>54346455
It would be as easy as opening the watch and fixing the hand for that anon.
>>54346483
True.
But i have a hunch he's not really willing to do that.
>>54346483
I think I could probably manage that at least, I can just remove the crown and the whole movement should come out, right? I haven't done it with a chrono before so I'm not sure if the pushers will be a problem.
>>54346519
It's actually easy. Also, the chrono hand is the top one, meaning the chance of scratching the dial is minimal.
>>54346377
The SKX is the probably one of the most redundant watches of all time. But I guess that when you are a mindless circlejerk goy you don't realize this shit and just add to the memes.
I bet you own a communist, a terrorist and some shitty JDM Seiko. Find your own taste faggot instead of being a literal memer.
>>54346530
1. Open the back of the case.
2. Look for a little push button next to the crown step to push. Push it while pushing the crown and it should come of.
3. Carefully take the spacer of the movement.
4. Take the movement and dial ou, CAREFULLY.
5. take chrono hand out, carefully not to scrath the dial or leave hand grease in it. Just don't touch the dial with anything or you'll fuck it up.
6. Put chrono hand back in, in the correct position.
7. Do 1. to 4. in reverse order.
When I press the light button on my f91 the digits slowly fade away. How can I fix this?
>>54346530
>>54346531
Possibly, as long as he uses some plastic tool to move the hand i think it'll be fine.
To do it you need to remove the crown and stem assembly via the stem release button, while the crown is in the second click/time adjustment position.
Unsure if anything else is holding the movement is place, but that's unlikely.
>>54346575
change the battery? just a guess
>>54346574
>>54346576
Do I have to remove the hand completely or can I just nudge it the 5th of a second into place?
>>54346618
Better and actually easir to take it out then put it back in.
Nudging could have some ill effect: you could fuck the stem of the hand, or the movement, or bend the hand.
>>54346638
Ok. I think I'll attempt it this weekend then. I'll be sure to post my results.
>>54346618

>And do not get the SNZG13 bracelet for it, or else it will look as ugly and as mismatched like pic related.
Hmm, would it be a better option to buy the one with the bracelet instead and then fit it with a canvas strap?
I'll explain, I am in love with that watch, the dial is just perfect, the numbering, the smooth hands, the crown, the case... I just can't decide whether to buy the one with the canvas strap (cool for day to day use) or the one with the bracelet (so I can wear it in a more formal setting). So I was trying to figure out if buying one then switching between the two bands was a practical compromise.
If this isn't doable I may just end up buying both, it just seems like a waste of money, and haven't been good for money lately...

>>54352599
>>54352418
I have heard that the homage Rolex makes is good. They messed up the lugs though.
Did I fuck up in buying this?
>>54352599
It's not autistic to expect your watch not to have any glaring flaws. If you bought it and it's not right then you're perfectly entitled to return it and either get something that isn't messed up or get your money back so you can buy a watch that isn't shit.
And you shouldn't have to open up a brand new watch to fix it, that's the job of the Malaysian child slave or factory robot who built your watch.
>>54352777
>check'd
how much you get it for? and does it work?
>>54352837
I paid $62, and the seller says it's running and keeps good time (whatever good time is for a 40 year old tuning fork movement).
>>54352854
the old accutrons are one of my favorite pieces. i have 2. a working for 62 is solid. enjoy it.
if you want to have it for a long time, take my advice and get it serviced asap by someone who knows what theyre doing. itll save you in the long run.
i know it feels bad spending more on a service then the watch itself, but there arent many watches where thats actually worth it, but the accutrons are one.
>>54353349
Thanks, I'll definitely ask my jeweler stepdad about getting that shit serviced. Ideally I want to save for the older movement with the setting on the back of the watch, but any accutron is fucking sweet.
>>54349902
So just buy the SNZG13, same dial exactly, and a bracelet but with a polished case instead of bead blasted. And if you want to put it on a different strap it's very simple to do, any 22mm strap will do.
>>54352418
Not sure. Rolex make a nice homage to the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms if you want a diver. It's got a shitty ceramic bezel rather than a sapphire one though.
Thoughts on sea gull and beijing watch Co?
Some of the watches are $1000+ but alot sit around 3-500 are they worth a look at?
>>54354595
There's some decent watches that use their movements in the sub-150 range, but there are a lot of better alternatives in the 300~500 range.
>>54354749
Fair enough, i suppose if i want a watch with Chinese flair i could always look on ali express anyway.
They hold similar prices to seiko, it's the quality a let down or the movement?
>>54354891
No idea why do you want a Chinese watch to start with. But as per usual, Maison Celdaon and the Beijing watch factory make great watches if you want Chinese.
Seagull is more of a mass movement maker, but their 1963 Seagull military chronographs are somewhat unique in design (movement is a clone of a Swiss movement made on Swiss machinery)
>>54354973
I want something a bit unusual without being overpriced.

>>54355500
There is no real Danish manufacturers left anymore, they all moved to Switzerland and or use Swiss movements or went over to chinkshit. (Is JG still Danish though?)
Nothing wrong with vintage JDM watches though, lots of good designs with interesting movements.

>>54356056

Why would vintage watches suddenly change ownership? And why did you say that JJ is Swiss now if you knew they didn't exist anymore?
>i'm really not that interested in Swiss companies.
Then what are you interested in? If not Japanese, Russian, Swiss or Danish, you pretty much only have Chinese and German left.
And I'm guessing your budget isn't very high, so German is probably out of the question.

From what another anon into vintage Seikos has said, the 45xx is quite a bit less reliable. I have no independent source for that though.
The 52xx is a great movement though, comparable to the Omega 56x/75x in greatness.

To elaborate;
Balance staff is a part of the balance wheel, which can be bought off Meranom for 7$. Alternately a whole 2209 can be found for 30$, so I'd be giving it away at 35-40$ because I really dont need a pocketwatch, I just bought it for situations like these.
