How do I tell if my phone is unlockable? I have a Galaxy Note II that I'm trying to move from Verizon to Sprint and Sprint said it's impossible with Samsung phones but that seems like bullshit. And there's tons of contradictory info from Googling.

It's bullshit that I own a phone like this and I can't even use it.

You mean rooting?
I've got a G5, there are tons of recent articles google brings up that give the "here's how to install towelroot" instructions for rooting it, when it's been a long time since that's worked. Check the contradictory info to see if it just says towelroot, and then ignore if it does.

>rooting

Not necessarily, I just need to be able to move it to a different network and I don't know if anyone knows what the fuck they're talking about.
>>
You can't senpai
>>
CDMA networks have lists of approved IMEI numbers in their database. If Sprint doesn't have your IMEI, then you're fucked.
>>
Are you talking about bootloader unlocking, carrier unlocking, or rooting?
>>
>>54301690
Carrier unlocking I believe. I don't want to root it, just get it switched off this carrier.
>>
Any Verizon phone is globally and carrier unlocked, meaning it will work on any carrier that supports the antennas in the phone. 99% sure a vzw note 2 should work with sprint, the issue is it will not be on their white list (lost of IMEIs they can activate) so they will have to use a sprint phone to activate the simcard then put the active Sim in the vzw phone. If they say no, it's because they're commission based and would make more money by selling you a new phone. Good luck mate.

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll go to their retail store and just harass them until they relent or tell me to fuck off.
>>
>>54301906
Just tell them you want to activate your customer owned device, and that it's unlocked, and that they will need to use one of their display devices to activate your simcard. I doubt they'll say no unless they have a strict gm.

Everyone is wrong. Everyone is stupid.

You cannot use this thing on Sprint because

1: CDMA is a proprietary technology and carriers keep whitelists of what devices actually work and whether or not they will provision their ESN.

2: Sprint uses the PCS band for their CDMA2000 and LTE networks, something that Verizon phones don't natively support.

HOWEVER, because you have a Verizon Note II (and it has gsm support) you can happily use the thing on T-Mobile or AT&T without much issue but you will be limited to H+/3.5G speeds which are honestly a lot better in comparison to the shit you will get on Sprint without one of their natively supported SPARK LTE devices.

tl;dr UNLOCKED != Activatable on any carrier

The galaxy note 2 is absolutely ancient, just get something new. Look at Project Fi, the 32GB Nexus 5X is only $249 there and the plans are pretty cheap.
>>

This.

CDMAids is a big problem in America. Verizon and Sprint are our CDMAids carriers.

Also, you need to Root your device to allow for non-verizon SIMs to be used with it.

Okay this is legitimately how i did it. Download samsung KIES, update the phone.
Samsung KIES will install the non carrier specific ROM and you'll be unlocked
