OMG I ruined something by pulling a piece off which actually decreases contrast, increases glare with two surface to air interfaces, and has no particular optical qualities or even an anti-glare finish one even ONE surface!
The screen is objectively better for any kind of viewing now, and soon I will have a nice custom-made locally sourced hardwood bezel as well. I'll post a pic, it's going to be tastefully done.

I just ripped that glass right off and colored everything in with a marker for now. But as I said, I'm getting a wooden bezel and it'll be really nice and tasteful, with the proper neutral gray tone as well.
