That's not true. Androgens give you a penis, which are produced in response to the SRY gene on the Y chromosome.
There are many people with XY chromosomes who are raised as female because they don't respond to androgens and thus don't have a penis. They can even give birth.
Feel free to call someone who has a womb a man because "muh Y chromosome", but most people would laugh at you.

He's always seemed like a pale imitator of Poe with too much of an infatuation with the basic idea of the indescribable and the unknowable.
But the problem with indescribable is that it makes for poor descriptions and if you litter your work with it too liberally it becomes mundane and irritating.
I don't think the quality of his writing is good enough to hold his stories together once the reader stops being impressed by the simple unexamined concept of madness.
The pulp fiction origin of his work is pretty plain at times.
