Sometimes stuff gets uploaded to Usenet first, sometimes it goes to private trackers first. They both have their strengths. I prefer private trackers because the community is better, the organization is better, I get everything I want quickly, and I don't pay a dime unless I want to donate to a tracker.

Usenet has its ups and downs.
Without easy access to index sites its kind of lost its luster.
The issue with torrents has always been seeders/peers.
Sure all the popular stuff has plenty of both, but you occasionally want some file/torrent that was created years ago and find out its pretty much a dead torrent that won't go beyond 87.3% because it has no complete copies and no seeds.
Torrents are great for popular/frequently accessed files.
DDL (not usenet) is great for stuff that is rarely accessed.
Usenet can combine strenghth of the previous two,
I think the goldendays of usenet file sharing are over, things are very much closed off these days.
DMCA take downs everywhere, so that public indexer is useless because that file you want is named 'KJBSDBDF&*.mpv" and you will never know what it is unless you're on the right index site.
When I was using usenet , it did have something torrents didn't have (maybe still dont ?) it was some good integration with couchpatato and automatic downloading of TV shows/movies.

Plus the download speed maxes my connection.

I'd like to present an exclusive method for getting upload. Developed by /ptg/ for /ptg. I call it /requestscraping/. Here is how it works (I only tested this on PTP):
1) Go to the request page
2) Sort by votes. You want the 1 vote requests
3) Look at the user. If he is not disabled, move on. Eventually you will find a banned/disabled user
4) Then just enter any torrent ID and scrape his request
Initially when I started using this method, I tried to make the filled request seem plausible (ie a different encode), but it seems no one gives a fuck, so I just use any torrent to fill.
Protip: use torrents that are about to be deleted (screeners/trumps) to scrape the upload to remove extra traces to you
