using Java
want user to input string
then program will assign ints to the chars as well as whether the char was a vowel vs consonant
then do some math on the int values based on the individual chars entered
should i use array, arraylist, hashmap, other?
ex:
a (vowel=true), j (vowel = false), s (vowel = false), int value = 1
b (vowel = false), k (vowel - false), t(vowel = false), int value = 2
etc...
Found out I saved a picture with an embedded file. Now I'm curious, how do extract that shit?

How does YouTube monetization work?
Do you auto-monetize your whole account or is it a manual per-video process?
Can you actually get into legal trouble by monetizing things or is everything so automated that the worst they can do is block a video or something?

Get an SSD if you can afford it, 5 second boot time and everything loads damn quick.
Also reformatting your drive and re-installing the os will speed it up a bit

Sup, /g/. Building a PC. Used for PCB drafting, solidworks, etc. Requirements:
-Must DRIVE 2x4k. NOT GAYM, just for everyday use/drafting
-Must be reliable/not fuck up and lose all the designs
-Must have at least 64gb of DDR4
-No need for anything over 500 gigs, and SSD preferred
-Limit ~$2k

I know a lot of people here have a stigma against facebook but I have no idea where else to ask this.
My account was disabled and they wouldn't tell me why. I showed them proof that it was really me. They reactivated my account but after about a day they disabled it again. I showed them the same proof and they said nothing and closed the support case without saying anything. I tried it again and they did the same thing, and for a few days it's been the same shit back and forth and I don't know what to do anymore. How do I solve this? I really don't want to make another account.

I want to get a replacement for my FSP 350-60MDN power supply. Two questions:
Is it ok to get a 500w replacement, given that the fsp 350-60MDN is 350ww output?
Do I need to worry about size and such or the replacement? How can I make sure before buying that it will fit?
Also if you lads have any replacement recommendations that would be brilliant. If we can get cheaper than €20 that would be great.

Is there a "right" way to write programs?
what should be my thought process when writing a program for work?
So far I've seen three different ways:
way #1:
>get a feature request/story to work on
>implement it all in one function, copy & pasting code rather than using for loops, etc.
>after they know it works, slowly refactor code to make it more elegant. add new classes and functions based on the refactoring.
way #2:
>get a feature request/story to work on
>brainstorm on paper
>draw UML diagram
>create skeleton classes and functions based on that UML diagram
>fill in functions and classes based on those skeleton files
way #3:
>get a feature request/story to work on
>start writing function
>create new functions and classes as they implement more features
>>54278513
It's used by itself. dmenu is a good way to launch stuff if using just a window manager. I recall liking i3 on my Crouton, but switched to XFCE because it couldn't resize terminal windows by rows and columns, only pixels.
Hey!
If i resize an image to make it tinier, the computer needs to show the same Picture, but in less Pixels available. How does the computer decide which pixels he can left out to make it tinier but look the same?
here's the thing:
i have RAID1 (software) to prevent losing all the important stuff if one of my HDD decides to die again. but not so long ago i was adding a fan and somehow touched the SATA cable to one of the disks in a way that made it still visible in the system but unable to work. i noticed that few weeks later when i did my regular PC inspection (S.M.A.R.T. was full of end-to-end and ultra DMA CRC)
after checking the files on both disks separately, of course, many were on just one of them. now here's my question: should i just copy those missing files from one to other and OS will be happy with it or should i remake the entire RAID? because i'm not sure if OS will see those new files or treat them as free space for overwriting

Raid is not backup
If you're going to use raid,use hardware raid.Software isnt portable and is way more likely to fuck you over
There is no parity in raid 1 ,so the only way to retrive data is to copy it from the mirrored drive to another drive(3rd),then either replace the bad drive and then make a new raid 1

no, it's not backup. yes, it lowers the risk of losing data because of disk failure

Raid 1 does not offer parity , it offers fault tolerance.
>disk failure
If you call have 3 spare tires on your car,reliable,then sure.
I can have 3 disk drives fail on my raid-6 and my hot swaps will take care of it for me. me none the wiser till i check my raid tool.
raid 1 wont do that.It requires manually removing data to a third party,and then adding a new disk
If your os is on this,i would backup your media and user profile and do a fresh install,because you dont know what the other drive was doing when it died,and you could have corrupted system files .

OS is replaceable,your media/data you want should go an raid arrays so you dont lose it,because as you know,an os is easily reinstalled,where as your data,isnt.
>raid six
On the chance i lose 3 drives,and i dont have any hot swaps,i have solance knowing that that array is backupd daily to another raid 6 array with just as many hot swaps.

I tried both Ralink & Broadcom drivers for HP dv6 win7, but both crash after unpacking files. Compatibility modes don't work, I reinstalled win7 from another image, and it still doesn't work.
Other drivers and programs install fine. Am I being stupid here? Is there any way to install them manually in an idiot-proof way?
Alright /sqt/, I need help choosing a new laptop to buy, and I can't buy a desktop PC.
I'd use it mostly for gaming and watching movies, and it's preferable if it had a 17~ inches screen. The price should be from $800 to $1200.
I was looking for some of them on the internet, but I'm somewhat of a layman, so I don't know what to choose based on the specs and the price.
Is any of these in a reasonable price for what they're? Thanks in advance.

I'd avoid the first one due to its low resolution. Where are you planning to use this? 17 inch laptops are really unwieldy.
Does anyone have the image or the link to the /g/'s recommended software (or something along those lines cant quite remember)
>>54281137
cant see shit on a '15
>>54281137
I would avoid the first one due to NO GPU.
He basically wants a Desktop in a laptop, that's why he's going for 17". Which is retarded, he's gonna be stuck with this shitty laptop for years to come with a GPU that's already dated and was only midrange on launch. I don't know why people like throwing away thousands of $ on this garbage.
To the OP, if you need a computer outside your house - buy a cheap notebook. Save money for a desktop. If you're gonna go for a laptop because you're in college and ashamed of owning a desktop or something retarded like that, you are a stupid normie and you deserve shit performance.
>>54281188
Man, I wish we had a sticky with a link to a wiki which contains all of that crap.
>>54281226
I want a 17" not because I want a desktop in a laptop, I want it because most if not all 17" laptops have the numpad, which I use to play certain games. I can't buy a desktop because I don't have where to put it in my fucking house, because I live with other people and this isn't the main subject. I want a laptop because I like to be able to play and do whatever I want to everyhere I want to.
>>54281137
They are kinda big, but still better than nothing, right? I need a laptop that have the numpad.
>>54280641
that is pretty much it, but it will still "drop out" to white momentarily right before a slow-loading page finally loads.
again, this is a big improvement and I'm totally using it, but it looks like maybe a bit of a white flash is unavoidable? oh well.
super appreciate the help, though, bro. I hope I don't sound ungrateful, because I am. I'd have never found that stuff on my own. please accept this picture of a bike made out of tubes.

>>54281089

>>54281285
You can get a standalone numpad. My employer's accountant carries one in their laptop bag. There's even mechanical ones.
Ok guys, I want to build my own computer entirely from money I earned from working, which I will be doing for the first time. The computer I currently am using is one that my dad paid for when I was in my freshman year of HS, although I've purchased a GTX 660 since that time (the whole computer is 4 or 5 years old) which has been in for 3 years or so, so it's not really a piece of shit but I want to be able to have something that's really mine that I earned myself. I want to put 3 1tb drives in the computer for storage, but I want them to be 3 separate chunks of 1tb each, which is where this question comes into play.
What I planned to do was use one drive (an SSD0 for booting the operating system, have another drive where all of my system files and stuff go to (a C drive so to speak), then another drive for storage (movies, music, tv shows, whatever) with the 3rd basically just being spillage for the 2nd drive. Would this be possible? If so, how? I wouldn't really consider myself a computer genius which is why I came here to ask this.
Thanks in advance, friends.
>>54281341

the term you're looking for is imaging and it's a bit different than system recovery. when you image a disk it literally takes a snapshot of the drive and you can later load that image onto the drive if you want and have your system back like it was. the program you want is clonezilla

Gonna buy a 908Ti, what brand cools best?
EVGA ACX, Asus Strix or Gigabyte Windforce?
I'm having some really alarming issues with my GPUs lately. Arma 3 will usually load into a scenario but the graphics will have tracers or other absurd issues like pic related.
Many other games like Battlefield 4 and Grid Autosport won't even refresh the screen on start of heavy load. Crysis 2 crashes after about 8 seconds of heavy gameplay.
This is all quite unusual considering I've played on these cards for about a year with AAA games like GTAV at 4k. I've already updated the drivers and it didn't help the problem.

no you don't want the windows system recover, it's shit and you have to be able to at least get windows to try to boot. with clonezilla you can fix shit no matter how badly you fuck windows because you boot directly from clonezilla then locate wherever you put the image, and tell it to restore or whatever terminology it uses.

Why do certain websites cause really high CPU usage in chrome? I got my hands on a Toshiba Chromebook 2. (Plz no bully, got it for a steal and its am awesome browsing/note taking machine that gets 14hrs on a single charge)
It has a dual core 1.4ghz Intel Celeron, 4gb ddr3, and is pushing a 13.3" 1080p panel. The website in question is the fextralife wiki for Dark Souls 3 game. Even only having 1-2 tabs open spikes the CPU to 95%-100% usage and the fan kicks on. Browser becomes a little sluggish.
Meanwhile on this same machine, I can stream a 720p video from youtube, with 5 Chan tabs open and the cou peaks at maybe 60% usage.
>>54282982
>1.4ghz Intel Celeron
Found your issue.
>>54282982
Old 2gb 1.7ghz thinkpad user here, the homepage of that site runs a bit sluggish in chromium for a bit but it's fine. I suppose you have to remember that wiki websites are usually bloated to all hell with content. Lots of wikia pages come to mind.
>>54283038
I know the CPU is low power, but that's why I also posted the fact it can run multiple tabs and a YouTube video simultaneously without going beyond 60% CPU usage. It's only wiki sites.
>>54283041
Yea I guess you're right. I mean even my thinkpad T420 with an i7-2620m sees higher than normal CPU and RAM usage while on the same wiki. Doesn't pin to 100%, but still.
Is there anything I can do to the chrome browser? I'm on chrome OS (again plz no bully, Linux sucks for this model) so OS optimizations are out of the question.

You can cut down on userscripts and active extensions. Otherwise you're fucked, consider modding ChromeOS.

You're running a CPU that's slower (even with two cores) than what was acceptable back in 2002.

I forgot to mention. This CPU is the Celeron N2840. It runs at 2.1ghz and boosts to 2.6ghz. Problem is the wiki site is making it hit 100% usage so I think it's throttling to 1.4ghz. It's only the various wiki's though. Maybe it is as the other anon said and the wiki site is just loaded with a bunch of garbage.
Plus as much as I know what you're getting at, GHz doesn't mean everything. A 1.4ghz from today would still beat a 2.5ghz+ from 2002.

Use the GNU Shred coreutil available on any GNU/Linux system, or DBAN. One pass is enough.

I left Sprint and went to T-mobile and never looked back. Sprint was garbage with how their service was, their selection of phones, and how their phones are only good for their network.
Make sure you backup all your data first. You could always try a complete factory reset from the settings menu of your phone.
>>54278229
From the manpage:
Target bitrate in kbit/sec (6-256 per channel)
In VBR mode this specifies the average rate for a large and diverse collection of audio. In CVBR and Hard-CBR mode it specifies the specific output bitrate.
Default for >=44.1kHz input is 64kbps per mono stream, 96kbps per coupled pair.
Note: opus will have diminishing returns. The best part about the codec is finding acceptable quality at the lowest bitrate. It will blow MP3/AAC out of the water.
>>54285170
Yeah I hate Sprint too, and this phone has given me so many problems that it could be the last straw and I just move to T-Mobile. I was also thinking of factory resetting to but wasn't too sure
>>54281747
It's operating exactly as designed. You bought an AMD card, were you expecting quality?
Installing arch on a uefi system and having some issues. I'm following the beginners guide, I got to installing the UEFI/GPT bootloader part ran "bootctl install" got what I assume is a normal output then went to create a boot entry in "/boot/loader/loader.conf" saw
>"#timeout 3"
>"default Random string of characters"
>added "editor 0"
finished rest of guide and I cat boot to the Arch install, so I rebooted to the live disk and chroot-ed into it and am back at "/boot/loader/loader.conf" in nano. How can I fix this and boot properly? I assume I need to change the default Variable to something else. but don't know what.
Faraday cage
The waves still enters the cage (fragmented) or they are completely repeled by the cage?

That's actually kind of beautiful. It looks like a painting.

Keep doing thing and eventually thing will be what you do. And use org-mode
Anyone know how long Newegg takes to approve a refund claim? My video card was missing from the package and I contacted them yesterday about it and I haven't heard anything back. The last time something like this happened it took them 30 minutes exactly to issue a claim, approve it and resolve it with a refund. Anyone know anything?
>>54285315
Depends on the wavelength and the design of the cage. Also the waves aren't repelled they're absorbed.
Can anyone post the mail of rms telling his story of him cuckholding a man and asking a woman if he could be her honorary girlfriend ?
>>54285644
Just contact them every day until you get an answer
Also check the shipping weights for yourself, that can be a solid way of proving the item was missing from the shipment
>>54285277
So I figured out part of my issue, Changed default boot entry to "Arch" and am making a new entry in esp/loader/entries call Arch.conf but having hard time understanding everything about how to make a new entry

how to reinstall windows 10 and drivers
>>54285747
It's pretty much just my word against theirs at this point, I don't really have a way of proving that it was missing.
>>54285798
There should be a record of package weight by the shipping company, compare that to the weight of the items on the packing list
They can't argue with hard numbers from 3rd parties.
Had this happen to me before but luckily the missing item was the majority of the weight of the package so it was easier to point out.
What's /g/'s preferred malwarebytes type anti-malware program?
>>54285822
Yeah, I don't know why but the shipping company says the package was 6lbs. I assume without a video card it would weigh less than that. Not sure why it says 6lbs when it obviously wasn't.
Anyway I don't know why they're taking so long to approve the claim. Last time it literally took 30 goddamn minutes but it's been almost 20 hours this time. Not sure what to do.

Is there a way to save terminal color schemes so its easier to switch between them? Its getting quite tedious manually changing the color of every item when switching between wallpapers.
Or at least a template image or something explaining what each box refers to?

Hey /g/
In meme sharp here
How do i validate a part of a string as a whole one when it is not specific.
I know that i can use substring to get specific parts of a string (0,4) Returns first 5 chars etc.
But what if i have an index of names
brody cuckboy
cuckboy brody
etc
and i wanted the user to be able to just type brody or cuckbody
or maybe just cuck etc.
I cant add exceptions because the user inputs this data and it is varying and different every time.
Holy fuck i'm going to get roasted for this.

just settled for winscp, seems like all ftp clients are pretty shit
So i am going to build my first ever PC, i'm planing on getting i7 skylake 6700(non-k) and get a gtx 960, since i dont require ultra-60fps 1080p. my question is, is it better to invest on an i7 skylake cpu and maybe replace my graphics card maybe 2 years down the road or do i get an i5 and a better GPU.

>>54286364
A new generation of GPU's are about to come out. Nvidia's will cost between $600-$1000 and AMD's will probably cost between $300-$400. Wait until June or July, get an i5 and get a new generation GPU. I'd have done that myself except I have zero patience and didn't want to wait another two months.

Will updating my prebuilt Windows 8 laptop to Gentoo work? Are there hardware restrictions and stuff?
>>54287802
you shouldn't jump straight to Gentoo. try Linux Mint on a usb drive first. if everything works correctly, install mint and try to live with it for a while. if you still feel comfortable after a few months then you can try install Gentoo.

how would I make 4chan use noto sans as my font?
I don't know shit about CSS, but this doesn't work
>font-family: 'Noto Sans' !important;
using 4chan x if it matters
http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=9SIA4JH3GA1661&utm_medium=Email&utm_source=IGNEFL042916A&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL042916A-_-EMC-042916-Index-_-LCDLEDMonitors-_-9SIA4JH3GA1661-S2A7A
Anyone here familiar with this monitor? Should I get 2 of these or 1 1440p,ips,144hz,freesync monitor? Already have 1 1080p monitor
Basically I don't know if 144hz and freesync are worth it, since I've never used them.
>>54288087
What element are you applying it to?
Anyway, if you want to apply a css rule to everything, it needs to be* {
font-family: 'Noto Sans' !important;
}
>>54288277
I have this/* Board title rice */
div.boardTitle {
font-weight: 400 !important;
}
:root.yotsuba div.boardTitle {
font-family: 'Noto Sans' !important;
text-shadow: 1px 1px 1px rgba(100,0,0,0.6);
}
:root.yotsuba-b div.boardTitle {
font-family: 'Noto Sans' !important;
text-shadow: 1px 1px 1px rgba(105,10,15,0.6);
}
:root.photon div.boardTitle {
font-family: 'Noto Sans' !important;
text-shadow: 1px 1px 1px rgba(0,74,153,0.6);
}
:root.tomorrow div.boardTitle {
font-family: 'Noto Sans' !important;
text-shadow: 1px 1px 1px rgba(167,170,168,0.6);
}
not a clue what it does
just replaced the old shit with 'Noto Sans'
If you pay for a youtube rental video, can you download it via youtube-dl?
I know it gets blocked if you don't pay
>>54288286
I'm not super familiar with 4chan's page layouts, but "div.boardTitle" sounds like it would only change the text at the top of the page.
guys, why does a corrupted directory refuse to be deleted with rm -rf ("directory not empty") but "move to trash" works? what's so special about "move to trash' that even terminal can't do
>>54288330
turns out* {
}
worked great, but now my code things aren't monospaced
>>54288356rm -rf
recursively deletes everything inside a directory. meaning it deletes filled directories and all the sub-directories within. you've got something wrong.
>>54288329
i haven't tried with youtube rentals but you can use your youtube account credentials with youtube-dl to download your feed or private playlists. it might work with rentals
>>54288405
but what and why "move to trash" worked?
>>54288375
>now my code things aren't monospaced
Because * applies to EVERYTHING.pre.prettyprint span {
font-family: 'Monospace' !important;
}
Should fix it though.
