I'm not effay by any degree. Are there any rules for matching a NATO strap with your dial color? Like are there any color combinations to avoid? I am thinking about putting a black or silver zulu strap on this.

I can guarantee you it won't.
High end Casio caps have no problem lasting 15-20 years, and they're easily and cheaply replaced. It would also keep good time throughout its life
A 7s26 on the other hand would last around 10 years if you baby it, but time keeping is probably gonna slope down by 6 or so years.
If you're referring to my Seiko 5 and Sistem comparison the Seiko 5 literally would last longer.
The sistem is built like shit, you can check the link above.

The older Seiko 5s don't use the 7s26. Also do yourself a favor and don't buy a used one from ebay unless it's a limited edition one or some shit, chances are it'll smell like curry when you get it...
You could buy a Seiko 5 twice, but you would be buying an inferior watch twice, meanwhile you could be buying one of the best JDM watches that Casio offers and have a chance to bond with it. The fact that it can last so long is just a bonus.
There's plenty of fully working Casio watches online. They use very high quality caps and boards. It's relatively hard to kill a casio (unless you're drowning a non WR one obviously)
I still have a Forester from when I was in 2nd grade, over 17 years ago, and it only needed 2 battery changes to last that long. Actually I haven't touched it in about 3 years and its only 92 off from time.gov. Not bad

Not the same dude, but the older Seiko's use movements that are not too far off from the 7S26 (7002,6106,6309 and etc) but are generally of higher quality.

And even older quartz watches do need servicing at times, seals need to be replaced (which can lead to moisture related damage), older electronic components can break, day/date mechanisms can break and some higher end quartz movements do need lubrication.

That's true. All I'm saying is that even with their cheapest resin watches Casio does a pretty good job of future-proofing.
The motors in an Oceanus probably won't need to be lubed for decades. I would be more worried about the capacitor going bad (surprisingly rare in their Solar watches, compared to eco drives)

>Tell us more anon
Back in the early-mid 80's when ana-digi was a hit the HK chinks made a lot of cheap shit ana-digi watches. Back then shitty plastic pin-pallet garbage was still cheaper to make in China/HK than actual analog quartz, so these were made with an LCD digital part and a handwinding, unjeweled, pin-pallet analog part.

Problem is not only the lever and the escape wheel are (very soft) plastic, but their pivots as well, so once you take it apart (and you will have to take it apart once since the piece of shit just doesn't work) you can't really put it back together anymore since the pivots just keep bending. I have one in mint condition (no pics, sorry, but it kinda looks like this Casio), and I'll be replacing the analog mechanical movement to a quartz one, since it's the standard 6.75x8 size.
>>
>>54274678

>It is literally a better value, scroll up to see why.
Yep, I agree, it is.
But it's also better value than an Oceanus, but value isn't all that matters, are you too autistic to understand that?
What matters is that the anon likes his watch. He shouldn't get the Seiko 5 if he doesn't like it. He should get his Sistem51.

A penis quartz form the 70's will keep good time in 2016 without a service. The lineage and oceanus line (along with the other watches with the same movement) use much more advanced stepper motors and have no batteries to internally corrode the circuit board. Not to mention all the internals have very robust shielding.
There's no doubt in my mind that any of them can last until their perpetual calendar date limit, 2099.

I should have mentioned that the oceanus has an power saver mode, so the cap is not always being re/discharged at 100%, which would easily let it last 50 years, if not more.
I don't know this for sure, but the lineage movements don't have this, meaning that after around 20 years you might need to replace the caps.
These aren't simple DW-tier movements anon.

I see a very specific upside to analog watches. The position and movement of the hands gives you an instant idea of elapsed time.
For instance, if you check your watch twice within 5 minutes, you will see essentially the same thing, but if you wait 3 hours it will be completely different. Digital displays totally negate this.
Also, it allows you to see "at a glance" what time it is, without having to parse the information of the actual numbers.
Same reason I much prefer analog displays for a speedometer, and same reason all tachymeters in cars and bikes are analog.

Not too many interesting ones out there I guess. I have nothing against digital watches but I just dislike many of their designs aesthetically and a lot of the ones with cool features are absolutely huge and wear too large on my wrist. Also they don't exactly go well with most of my apparel so I'd probably never wear one even if I had them. I'd buy a G-Shock if I manage to figure out where to wear one.

>AND, i feel ashamend when i see patek and casio analogue/digital watches in the same thread
Why..?
>>
>>54277088
The ETA 2824 and 2892 where developed the same time/ by the same developers and had several problems regarding the automatic windig system, it depends on the manufactoring year of the movement
The automatic weight of the first gen was too light and in the second generation the automatic wheel had too much clearance, but as long as it works fine for you theres no problem
>>
>>54277205

>>54277349
>>54277327
That has nothing to do with a different income or beeing a swiss fanboy, but i think we should definetely differ between these 2 things, bc (in my opinion) you cant compare them and bc there is SO much difference between a high end watch and a low end watch
Because casio produces a million watches a year and patek just hundreds
Because patek (or glashütte/vacheron/audemars/lange&söhne) has a tradition that lasts for generations
And my problem with japanese/chinese brands (im a watchmaker) is that watches with seiko or miyota movements are sold for the same price as watches with eta calibers and you see so much bad aspects on the japanese movements that come from not caring about the quailty

I thought the issue with the 2824 was that it didn't like hand-winding, despite the fact that it's massively advertised with such a capability? You could rewind your VCR AND control the TV volume with this.
Not to mention it was perfect for the mid 80s- Early 90s NEET because you would never lose or have to reach for the remote.

One of the more popular models (it was cheaper and came on a bracelet)
They toned down the functions, but it could still do all the basic PDA stuff.

I've had no problems with the radio controlled aspect. It doesn't do it every night, it depends on how strong the signal is. It's accurate enough not to matter though.

I don't have auto illumination turned on though as I can just push the button if needs be.

You have no idea what you are talking about, you glorified battery changing monkey.

Seiko has made and continues to make some of the greatest practical mechanical movements of all time, easily the equal of pre-Swatch Omega and Rolex.

For that matter, the Miyota 9015 is generally considered a bettee designed movement than the ETA 2824-2 it was designed to compete against.

My friend bought a Nixon watch and it looked pretty good. Official /wt/ verdict on Nixon watches in general?
>>
>>54282672

You should probably read up a little on Seiko's history. Seiko literally ended the Swiss chronometer competitions in the 1960's by BTFO'ing the Swiss on their home turf and causing the Swiss watchmakers to literally cancel all chronometer trials in mortal fear of being embarrassed further.

The Seiko 45xx and 52xx caliber series from the 1965-1975 period are amongst the greatest pre-quartz revolution mechanical movements and have no problem going toe-to-toe with the Omega 56x/75x caliber.

On a contemporary basis, Grand Seikos are direct competitors for Rolex on a quality and reliability basis.

Well I have to wind it every time I use it because I don't use it everyday, but it last an entire day with a winding at least.
>quality
The strap is what you'd spect from 15 dollars, I replaced it the moment I got it.
The watch however has taken a lot of hits and still works, I did not spect it coming from a chinese watch.
The crystal is domed and I'm pretty sure its acrylic, despite the hits still dosnt show scratch.
>worth waiting 2-4 weeks
Not sure how to answer this, I feel I got lucky this watch, because a lot of people says they have problems with chinese watches and mine has lasted months.
So is up to you if you want to risk it but hey, most of winner mechanicals watches are like 10-20 dollars, its worth a try if you like how the watch looks.

I feel like a good rant and I'm about to destroy your ass, son.
Nothing personal.
Your arguments are just utterly ridiculous...

>The position and movement of the hands gives you an instant idea of elapsed time.
For instance, if you check your watch twice within 5 minutes, you will see essentially the same thing,
but if you wait 3 hours it will be completely different.

Most digital watches have a stopwatch if you're concerned about elapsed time.
It'll tell you exactly how much time has passed at a glance.
Some give you the option to run the stopwatch and display the current time at the same time.
Pushing a button would be too much of a hassle for you, though.
How do you even lift your arm to check the time without your brain being inconvenienced?

>Also, it allows you to see "at a glance" what time it is, without having to parse the information of the actual numbers.

This is one of the stupidest things I've ever read...
You make it sound like such a goddamn hassle to read three (or four) numbers that make up the time.
Parsing the information? The "actual" numbers? Well, fuck me! That sounds like a huge pain in the ass! Instead, let me decipher three sticks pointing in three different directions around a circle at 12 other sticks or dots with no numbers at all in some cases!

>Same reason I much prefer analog displays for a speedometer, and same reason all tachymeters in cars and bikes are analog.

.The tachymeter is exclusive to watches. It's a tool that helps you determine average speed or distance traveled. What I believe you meant was "tachometer." That's the instrument in your vehicle that displays the engine's RPM or revolutions per minute.
I also prefer analog readouts for speedometers and tachometers over digital number readouts, but not exclusively because they're easy to read at a glance. The alternative is simply lame. I'm a man, dammit.
I wanna see those needles climb as the engine gets louder and I get pushed back into my seat!
