Posting this again, hopefully this time instead of just saying it's shit, people can give me better alternatives. If not, then is there anywhere I can get it for cheaper than $120 USD? I can't seem to find the exact same model anywhere outside of their website, and it'll cost more to buy it from ebay.

The ones I find on ebay dont look anything like pic. I do like the giant red commie red stars on some of them though.

Pic is MTP-1215. I am looking for something similar in style, dressy but not too formal and still usable daily. Also good durability.

431171 Komandirskie or without the star the 420059 Amphibia.

I personally don't like day/date subdials, and I'm inclined to say that your taste is trash, but you can't go wrong with casio.
Cheaper than your shitty fashion brands and 10x more durable.
>>54256451
Same goes to you
If getting your shit wet is an issue I reccomend you look for one thats at least 50m water resistant.
Maybe even a diver, the MDV106 is a great one.

Should I buy? If not, could you recommend a watch that looks similar and is a similar price (£100).

I didnt get it wet. Worst exposure to water is rain and washing hand and leaving it in same room while taking hot shower, so few droplets and vapor.

They look pretty much the same, based on Casios' own website at least. Bulbous and broken lines with a thick case. Compared to the Suunto which has cleaner and simpler lines.

There of course exists the very real possibility that I am just a retard and didn't find a good example of a Protrek, in which case, please point me in the right direction.

Suuure. But not surprising to hear in /wt/ because many are unable to see a watch as anything other than a dial and hands.

But the point is, a smartwatch 'dial' is unable to achieve many of the aesthetics of a traditional watch, but able to achieve an entirely new set of aesthetics. But instead of exploring that world and creating something nice you literally get shittier versions of a TAG carrera or something.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess no.
It's definitely build well though, and I would say it would survive more than its mechanical counterparts because of the inherent ruggedness that having a quartz movement gives you.
I don't really think an ISO rating means anything on a watch though.
If you want true ruggedness you go for a G-shock or even a protrek

Since wristwatches became popular in WWI I guess it's worn on the left wrist so the officer on the field can easily keep in sync with the artillery's creeping barrage without twisting around his service sidearm in his right hand.

Officers usually fought in the trenches with pistols and revolvers, they were actually better suited to close combat than the standard bolt-action rifle.

Hello, /gwt/

I've been away for a few months after wondering how the hell I bought 8 watches in 2015 and realizing the seiko black mongster I bought is a dud and needs repair or a heart transplant. If I got a donor watch with the same 4r36 movement but a cooler kanji date wheel, do I need to be concerned with crown position? the donor I'd like has it at 3 and the mongster is of course at about 4. Pic attached of dud.
>>
>>54263701

>>54264951
Wouldn't be too hard to learn though, I'm not sure what level of mechanical skills you have, watch making is just like working on a car or bike, just smaller, easy to do with the right tools and instructions. What tools have you got? Was thinking about buying some so I can fuck around on a curry 7s26 seiko movement, and maybe thow together a custom watch out of a eta and a set of hands and dial
>>
>>54264982
I've got like 6.5" wrists, the mongster is about as big as I can pull off. The fisheye-effect makes it look bigger than it is, my wrist is flat enough that I don't have the dreaded lug overhang.

>>54264994

>>

When has Credor ever been about accuracy? The really expensive Credors are haute horlogerie stuff made with really expensive precious materials and lots of hand-finishing and grand complications and stuff. Accuracy doesn't have much to do with it. If anything, worrying about accuracy and practicality is more the point of the Grand Seiko line, and Credor is more of the fancy expensive mechanically complex jewelry side of things.
>>
>>54263649
It's not a fucking atomic watch, it's a cheap piece of shit quartz movement with a radio antenna.
>>
>>54265855
no shit. but even a piece of shit quartz is going to be accurate to within less than 1 second a day since it gets attuned every night.
>>
>>54263649
This is an atomic watch.

The watch you posted is a quartz watch with a radio antenna that automatically synchronizes the watch to the time signals which are broadcast by NIST or some other government agency in other countries. Those time broadcasts are themselves based on atomic clocks.

The spring drive credors are inherently accurate just due to the movement. Not sure what the purely mechanical credors can do in terms of accuracy.
>>
>>54265960
Atomic watches that aren't huge when?
>>
>>54266071
Yes they're accurate, but I don't think the point is really to brag about being +- 1 s/d or whatever, the point is more to brag about muh smooth sweep and muh unique special snowflake movement which no other manufacturer can match.

Not to mention that spring drive is more accurate than mechanical but still way less accurate than quartz. And also if I recall right, most quartz Credors use movements which are less high tech than the 9F in the GS quartz models.
>>
>>54266071
But that's is just a shared movement with GS. Accuracy is one of the foundational elements to GS, not Credor.
>>
>>54266122
>Not to mention that spring drive is more accurate than mechanical but still way less accurate than quartz
They're just as accurate as a good quartz movement. Not HAQ levels, but still. I remember reading of people getting around 5 seconds per month with theirs.

It's not really the quartz movement that's keeping time, it's an atomic watch somewhere else. The quartz crystal only serves as a crutch between phone-homes.

If you want an affordable high-accuracy quartz, get a Bulova Precisonist, or the better-looking Accutron II.
>>
>>54266184
Generally Seiko is going to make an accuracy claim that is likely to have a little bit of padding. Spring drive is rated at +-15 secs a month last I checked, certainly better than low end Casio that runs at +-30, or cheap Chinese shit that is +-60 a month or worse. but you don't need to go further up than a nice g-shock to get to +-15.

>If you want an affordable high-accuracy quartz, get a Bulova Precisonist, or the better-looking Accutron II.
accutron II looks nice and I can live with 5 seconds a month

Yes
There's all sorts of wave ceptors, and you can move up to oceanus if you want an even better movement.
I like the ana-digi ones because you get 5 alarms and a stopwatch/timer which are very handy for me.

my bigger concern with spring drive is the ugly fucking power reserve on the dials

I kinda like it
I just really wish Seiko would bring over some of their JDM shit. Buying a hi-beat or SD GS and then finding out you need to send it to Japan to get it serviced must be a real kick in the balls.
Makes me really lean towards Quartz if/when I buy a GS.

Anecdotes are not the same as stated manufacturer specifications. Yes your watch might keep great time and plenty of people have watches that do way better than they're supposed to and that great, but that's not the point.

If your watch is gaining a couple of seconds a month then that's fine, but it may as well suddenly start doing -20 second/month or whatever and according to the stated specifications, that is still just as equally acceptable. The point of having a watch which is certified and tested to some narrow margin of error is that you should be able to fully depend on it to perform to that standard at all times, and you can rightfully expect it to stay within that acceptable range and any drift away from that is an unacceptable deviation from the engineering tolerance which should be corrected.

And sure, I realize we aren't talking about marine chronometers or 19th century railroad pocketwatches where this stuff actually matters. Tolerances are still supposed to mean something.

am I the only who doesn't feel that a couple hundred bucks every 5-10 years for a service is that big a deal?

I understand that, what I meant to say is that I don't even think it's possible to find even a low end casio that will be off by more than 10 seconds a month. Maybe one that was dropped off a building or something sure, but a good condition one will pretty much always be around 5 seconds monthly

In the case of Seiko? No, my issue is the crazy wait time and sending a several thousand dollar item internationally.
Any swiss watch that isn't low end swatch trash will not be a couple hundred bucks to service. The average Rolex and JLC quote is ~$600, and that's if it's on time and you babied the watch.

crazy wait time isn't fun but I've got over 20 watches to wear in the interim
