>>54262779
k501ux
>>54262811
looks pretty good actually. thanks for the suggestion
If you're not shitposting then $1000 is very much worth it for that machine. If you're shitposting then fuck you OP, you window licking troglodyte.
>>54262843
nah im looking for a desktop replacement that is decently portable for class and big enough to watch videos and shit on. maybe play hearth and wow private servers. i also would like a nice looking ips screen with a non shit resolution. xps 13 seems to small when i looked at it in person
>>54262811
>k501ux
not op but also thanks.
Can anyone tell me the cheapest laptop with a 960m? Trying to help my navy buddy suffer less on the cheap
>>54262924
theres some shitty 'gamer' red dell inspiron on techbargains for like 700
>>54262885
Dell screens are definitely some of the best, comparable to Apple retina displays.
The CPU should do fine in most tasks.
Battery life is probably not stellar on it considering it has a gtx 960m (which by the way is a decent laptop gpu)
Another concern about it would be cooling considering how thin it is but I am not sure on that one since I never used one before.
>>54262779
>any laptop with high end gpu
>ultrabook form factor
Pick one.
>>54262924
GL551JW
>>54262997
erm well you can pick both with either the dell or the asus ux501vw
>>54263058
>GL551JW
bad looking gaming laptop :(
Gross keyboard

>duo-copper
Cuo 2 Duo?
>>54263091
directcu cooler
op here:
so dell xps 9550 best option for a good looking slim laptop with good specs?
>>54263149
Don't bother with good specs if you're getting slim ultrabook trash that throttle all the components to half speed to not set itself on fire.
>>54263171
alright well between the dell and an asus zenbook pro which one would you pick? they both seem to have good specs and alright cooling. they do throttle when both the cpu and gpu are stressed but i need a comp to compile on ( comp sci student) and run other intensive programs. light gaming is another thing i will be doing. i need also need it to be portable and decent looking to bring to class without feeling like an autist

i7-6700hq ; 960m ; 8 gig ram. 1tb hdd 7200 rpm. 860$. 17.3 inch. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834154109R&cm_re=msi_laptop-_-34-154-109R-_-Product
got this two weeks ago.

May come as a surprise but dell actually handled the thermals relatively well. Temps on my machine are reasonable despite the form factor.
>>54263366
for 1000, get the XPS
>>54262811
k501ux is ugly as fuck.

For what purpose?
>>54264451
8 isn't enough and 16 is a meme
>>54264485
>8 isn't enough
Are you constantly compiling chromium from source?
>>54264485
thanks for using a trip
>>54264508
I'm using 6 and only have a web browser open
Once you start a few VMs and play a game or something it's very easy to get in the 20+ range
>>54264565
Senpai I don't think you know how ram works.
>>54263366
>a comp to compile on ( comp sci student)
Love, the things you'll be compiling have loc in the hundreds, not thousands.
Compilation is instantaneous in any hardware.
Most CS course projects could be compiled and run on a programmable calculator even.
>>54264588
Sure I do, to a degree. I don't understand how it works down to the chemical/electrical level but I understand it mostly.
>>54262811
>950m
kek
>>54264599
this.
more power doesn't make you a better comp student.
>>54264604
Modern OSes (gentoo isn't a modern OS) are set to use as much ram as you have and start flushing old shit only once you start running low.
Remember unused ram is wasted ram.
>>54264714
I know, and like I said earlier 8 GB isn't enough for me, 12 GB would be single channel fuccboi tier, and 16 GiB is a meme
>>54264699
It definitely makes life easier though
>>54262779
No.
Is this some student/job discount?
>>54262997
>17 inch
no
>>54263366
holy fk I am in the exact same boat as you. deciding between the zenbook and dell xps 13, need an ultrabook for uni (computer engineering student) and want to be able to game on the side.
>>54262779
> bezelless display
> still has that fucking huge keyboard bezel, much bigger than the 15 inch retina macbook pro
that's the magic of 16:9 guys!
>>54262779
link pls? I want to buy something similar
>>54264861
dell xps 15 (9550)
>>54264948
why not the xps 13? I think that would be better for a college student. lighter and easier to carry around
>>54264974
i was just replying to the guy dude
personally i'd get the 15 since it has the footprint of a 13 due to the bezel, and the 13 has the footprint of an 11
it's pretty sweet

Explain.
>>54264565
>Once you start a few VMs and play a game
You surely do spin up VM instances and play some games in the meantime.
Dude what the fuck.
I have 6500U and 16gb of ram, I boot a few VMs occasionally to simulate production environment but why would I waste my cpu cycles on VMs when I play games
you can buy the new xps systems and one other dell model with linux preinstalled.
>>54262779
>4k screen
literally useless on a laptop that small
>>54265547
Shitposting on XPS masterrace.
