Youtube using html5 is hitting 100% cpu usage when using an i5 520m. wtf. Also just a shitton of stuttering in general on windows 7.

/g/ I messed around with thinkpads, why the fuck is it doing this. The only thing I replaced was a 250GB 7200RPM harddrive for a 500GB 5400 RPM harddrive.
>>
That's what happens when you refuse to use post-T420 chinkpads because
>muh keyboard

enjoy faggot
>>
RIP in peace OP.
>>
Why didn't you replace the hdd with an ssd instead?
>>
You actually fell for the meme? Should've got a mac
>>
>>54246438
I am wondering if I should order one, but this pos is stuttering atm so I am putting it off.
>>
you sure it ain't the browser you're using
>>
You got fucking meme'd dude.

Should have gotten a Macbook.

>Mac
>not a meme
>>
>>54246480
Tried it with chrome and firefox. Nope. Also, I have had thinkpads in the past, but this one stutters way too often. Installing shit takes a minute to load.
>>
>>54246421
it may be faulty, mine works perfectly
>>
>>54246497
this
>>
>>54246421
You're using an depricated operating system. I think it's time to upgrade to Windows 10. It's safer and more secure, familiar, personal and productive. There's literally no reason not to use it.
>>
So use flash instead of HTML5

The fuck is the problem then? did a mem95 test already.... Scared to actually do a cpu test.
>>
Weird OP. I have a T420 with the exact same CPU and am watching a live stream in HTML 5 at 1080p with multiple tabs open and I average about 20% usage *on windows 8.1

Not sure what's going on with you.
>>
>>54246543
lolno.
>>54246564
Thing is I already have tested other thinkpads that can run html5 flawlessly with the same specs. This one I got for some reason stutters and hits 100% load on the cpu with html5 video.
>>
>windows 7
Upgrade to a modern operating system.
>>
uninstall your wifi drivers and see if the stuttering goes away
>>
>>54246607
Perhaps it is a software issue. What OS are you using?
>>
>>54246421
>Windows 7
Here is your problem. Using Windows on laptops is fucking retarded. Install Xubuntu and move on.
I can understand using Windows on gayman/work/production machines but laptops are for coding/interwebs/media.
>>
>>54246615
>>54246543
I thought people were fucking joking about having windows 10 shills on this board. Holy fuck.
>>
>>54246607
This is just a wild guess but does it happen with the power cable unplugged? I had problem like this at one point and turned out damaged charger cable was causing it.
>>
>>54246628
Tried, ran into issues with the gpu and fucking do not want to go back again. Some of the nvidia drivers are a pain in the ass to install.
>>
>>54246661
nope, all though this is a replacement I got from work. It chargers at 95W rather than at 135W. So it is slow as fuck to charge.
>>
>>54246625
How the fuck does that help?
>>
>>54246708
there's an issue with the wifi driver in windows that causes stuttering. it happens on my x220 once in a while. download the wifi driver installer, run it, choose uninstall, then reboot and play a video file or something to see if the stutters are gone. run installer again and install.

Found the fucking issue. It is the power cord. Apparently it demands the 130 watt powercord...

Hey kids wanna see something funny
>>
>>54246421
not even close, but i use my pentium 4 as my main desktop.

try using flash. if you use firefox, use an addon called "YouTube Flash Video Player" to force to use flash.

or just use mpv to stream through youtube-dl

good luck
>>
>>54246421
I don't know what's going on. I can run HTML5 youtube just fine on a laptop older and shittier than that. Are you using windows or linux.
>>
>>54247191
>>54247332
I found the solution people. I guess it helps to have the recommended power wattage.
>>54246911
>>
>>54246421
This is what you get for buying used, old shit. Something is clearly fucked and I doubt shitty HDD alone is responsible for it.

Maybe the CPU/GPU don't have a html5 decoder? Or some older driver slows it down?

thinkpadT420 here.

Not happening to me anon.

It is not stuttering anymore anon with the 5400RPM HD. smd.

Not OP ut thanks fo rlink. I'll try this extension out. I haven't had any issues though.
>>
>>54246628
Honestly, this. My T400 shit the bed with any 360 YouTube video on Windows 7. Ubuntu MATE plays them smoothly. Win7 was clean and maintained.
>>
>>54246871
shouldn't matter unless hitting the swap
I agree changing was stupid however
>>
Dunno dude, even steam in home streaming runs comfortably on my 4GB RAM X220. Probably just a browser issue.

I just discovered that steam streaming exists today in fact. Neato.
>>
>>54246636
8.1 is really solid
I'm going to downgrade my desktop back to it.

Are you using Firefox?
Lately mine has been using too much cpu. Not sure why. I updated to the latest version and updated flash with no change.

>>54246432
You can use a T430 chinkpad with a T420 keyboard now :^)

funny thing is I got 2x4 gb PC3-12800 running in my laptop.
>>
>>54246911
i have the same problem but i can't quite know how to check the necessary watts
can you explain?
>>
Its because of the stupid format called vp9 by google. Use a chrome plugin called h264ify
>>
>>54246421
You will never run Windows on that thing. Just grab a Linux distro and enjoy the speeds
>>
since when does the T420 need a 135W transformer

i have two that run fine on 90W or 65W
>>
>download VLC or BS player
>copy youtube link
>open in one of the two players
>enjoy
Thats how i can manage to watch youtube without lag on my pentium 4.
>>
>winshit

Deserve it tbfh
>>
Yeah, I've seen a lot of cases that some browsers, mainly Chromium based or Gecko based browsers tends to use vp9 webm codec which could drain battery due to lack of hardware decode acceleration. I use the same ThinkPad, but with Edge browser, which can only play h.264 mp4, barely uses only 6% cpu time.
>>
>>54246438
ive got a T420 with SSD and its lightening , not even a thinkpadfag first one I owned.
>>

OP please answer
>>
>>54249286

Yep.
T410 here with Linux and it works fine, no stuttering.
