Holy shit just build a desktop. Do you like wasting money on purpose? Why not just set a bunch of 20s on fire and laugh autistically while you watch them burn?

Though I have to admit at least you're getting something better than a macbook.
>>
1. Buy used Dell or HP workstation for $100 on eBay
2. Drop in gaymin video card
>>
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M (6GB GDDR5 VRAM, Optimus technology)
Processor: Intel Core i7-6700HQ quad-core processor with hyper-threading 2.6GHz or 3.5GHz (base/turbo)
Memory: 16GB dual-channel onboard memory (DDR4, 2,133MHz)

Who is buying this fucking garbage and why do they want to burn down thier house before they even utilize 1/4th the 16GB of ram.

The government should just drop these in third world countries, would be cheaper then firebombing them.

It doesn't work like that. Those desktops have PSUs that will explode if you force them to feed a dedicated graphics card.

the proper way to do things is desktop as a central hub, and a laptop that can do everything on the side.

Top tier CPU and GPU on a Macbook case....
Sounds too good to be true, the macs itself overheat like shit and they only have integrated graphics.

I have a desktop (6700K, 980Ti). The desktop replacement is for when I'm away from it (At work, visiting family, on the train) and don't want to deal with an Ultrabook choking on 3 tasks at a time.

Question. With that 3200x1800 display can I set the game resolution to 1600x900 and it will appear totally native or will it be a bit fuzzy?

The best part is you don't even need a desktop for when you get home. You can just hook it up to pic related for much better performance.

True that. I already have a desktop but I was thinking of getting a core to keep at work or at my parents house.

>>54230183
I'd cover that ugly ass logo with a sticker or something. Other than that it's a pretty sleek design though, I wish Asus would take a fucking hint with their ROG line.

>>54230081
Don't know for your example but as a 4K monitor gamer, splitting it in half to 1080p looks much better than any not evenly divisible resolution. So I would strongly assume that 1600x900 would be the optimal gaming resolution.

Didnt knew about that faulty model. this machine is very silent, the ssd is one of the best in the market and also have a good thermal design (see review below). But anyway it's your choice.

A shitbook pleb already cooks eggs WITHOUT using the GPU, what do you expect to get from something in similar form factor with a top end GPU?

You'll literally need to mount a laptop cooler onto it if you want to use that powerful hardware at all.
>>
>>54230726
it has 2 pretty decent sized fans inside. yeah, heat and noise is what i'm waiting to hear about before I drop $2k. the last gen had pretty bad noise issues, they claim to be improving cooling and fan usage.
>>
>>54229912
I had an older razer, it wasn't a bad little machine. The fans are silent most the time doing simple tasks and the battery was as good as any mbp. I really can't complain about it other than the price, but they are probably the most powerful machines in their class so you can't really expect anything else.

I have it and its fucking amazing, I have the 2015 version tho but will be selling it and upgrading to this soon. the thing is you cant play games are its native res gotta play at 1080p but even then 970m isn't powerful enough to play some games are full ultra quality.

p.s I still have a desktop tho with two gtx titans X in SLI to play in 4k 60fps at ultra everything ;)

>powerful laptop that doesn't look like a stealth bomber
The reason ROGs look the way they do is to allow for proper cooling. The traditional fan configuration in laptops is retarded. "Hey, hey, hey, hey guys, hey, let's put the fan inlet under the laptop so it has trouble pulling in air when sitting on a flat surface!"
>>
>>54231068
Huh, we're in pretty similar situations.

How is the noise when doing light gaming? Like Civ 5, DOTA 2, etc?
>>
>>54231115
when playing heavy games its a fucking jet taking off, but light gaming mine fluctuates in terms of noise when lets say the particles increase and decrease.

I mean shit like LEDs on the cover, angles where there doesn't need to be angles, red lines on the borders and shit like that. The Aorus x3 does the same thing. It's so off-putting.

this desu senpai

If you want a desktop replacement, get something with a cooling system that can actually properly cool the components so they can reach desktop level performance.

Ill remain casually optimistic for the time being, specs listed is already better then my garbage netbook which serves me well.

Need to replace laptop.

It was i5-3210M with Intel HD 4000 graphics.

CPU speed was fine for me, but gpu too slow, booted up old pc and old GTX 260 thrashes the shit out of it, and is still fast enough for what I want. Anything closer to that level of performance that's not too pricey?
>>
>>54231537

Worse than Intel HD 4000 apparently. https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/2vqehv/the_lenovo_y4080_is_a_horrific_disappointment/
>>
I own the 2014 version. It's really good. It's expensive as hell, but the best laptop I've used.
>>
>>54231840
The guy is a moron who can't figure out how to set GPU preferences, and you are too if you think any R9 is weaker than Intel HD.
>>
>>54229873

>>
>>54232188
Idk. Let's say, compiling something, streaming on Kodi, running a VM. Most mobile processors will choke.
>>
>>54232159
He did and he said it only got him +5 fps. Seems specific to the Y40 not the R9 chip.
>>
>>54232672
Several other people posted normal benchmarks from their machines, sounds like he just got a defective unit.
>>
>>54230795
cooling? I don't know. it can get pretty hot
noise? barely. yes, you can hear the fans, but they aren't noisy.

Even if the whole thing was a fan it would not be a decent sized fan.

Remember high resolution isn't always a plus bc of Windows shifty font rendering.

Yeah, right. For 100 bucks you get some fucked up shit machine from 2005 that barely manages to boot Win7.

Don't bother. The 2016 model is a marginal improvement over the 2015 edition. Wait a year and get a refresh when they have a new gpu generation.

>>
>>54236334
If you buy something from ebay you need to pay >200 USD. For less you'll either get something that's unacceptably outdated or has some major defects (display, keyboard, trackpad, audio, battery).
>>
>>54231108
i don't think unibody laptop like razer blade has its fan inlet on the bottom, or at least i'd assume so. They usually use the gap between the rotating bezel to both pull and exhaust air, like the macbook does
>>
>>54236664
Depends if you actually bid or just do "buy it now."

Well, most people have enough crap lying around from previous builds that they can just use the core components to upgrade and keep all their old peripherals.

It's a great budget option that I've employed numerous times.
>>
>>54234233
This.
>>
>>54229715
Its the only laptop I'd consider getting besides my 15in mbp so its got that going for it.
