Our "claws" and "fangs" are virtualized in intelligence to tap physic principles and create tools to inflict more harm or more efficiently.

So where is all the outrage from citizens such as yourself when it comes to the build up of this so called police state ?

And where exactly is the right to board a passenger aircraft without being subject to search enumerated?
>>
>>54230061

Americans always think the entire world is America.

You stupid fuck.

Any airport you enter is a transit between at least two countries. Comply or spend a few hours to a few months in the local holding cell. I learned that lesson when entering the UK from the United States in 2011.

> anon, power on your laptop.
> why?
> because we asked nicely. We can do this ion the detention center ..?
> OKay. [turns on laptop, boots, logon to main user account, does not have admin privileges because I'm not stupid or crazy]
> we'll just browse through the system ....
> anon, there appear to be encrypted folders, and other folders we can't access. Open them.
> Why?
> Please follow the customs officer [as they confiscate my laptop, carry on bags, passport and return boarding pass]

A little more than four hours later they felt they'd "investigated" enough to make their point. I was given a citation for non-compliance at customs. My passport was not stamped until after everything had been cleared. they could have denied me entry at any moment and put me on the next plane back to the U.S. at my expense.

Pro-tip: don't travel with any tech gear if at all possible. If asked to do something, tuck your dick up between your asscheeks and do it without whimpering. Crossing international borders is nothing like living in Kansas. there is no FBI, especially when you wish they were there to save your ass.
>>
>>54230061

http://motherboard.vice.com/read/encryption-program-truecrypt-has-a-critical-vulnerability

Veracrypt probably better. Open source...
>>
>>54230936
>did you decrypt the folders?

Yep. Every single item they wanted to access, I opened it. They never asked for any passwords, just said "open this" "open that" and whatever admin or encryption access I needed to enter, I did it. Quickly and without fucking up. It's the only reason they let me go as fast as they did.

It was a dick swinging contest and I was alone in a room in a foreign country with 5 Brit agents, each of whom had a 5 foot cock. I was in my clothes, no jacket, no shoes, no belt ... they had everything else of mine, including my passport because nobody owns their passport: it is the property of your government. Any government whose jurisdiction you are attempting to enter may request it and expect that it be turned over instantly, upon penalty of arrest.

Most countries aren't even required to notify your embassy, they just often do it within 72 hours as a courtesy.

And this was fucking Britain.

When I got back to the U.S. I told my boss that I wouldn't be traveling overseas again for any reason. They were very unhappy with my refusal to leave the U.S. and I was given the opportunity to seek new employment two years later. there just happened not to be any position available any more for someone who wouldn't travel, and my company refused to accept any liability or take any precautions for any employees being detained.

Fuck that shit.

Even in the U.S. I travel by car between states if at all possible. Only flew three since then and took a train once. Drove from Philadelphia to Ontario last year just to stay off the plane. Crossing the border in my car was a vastly more comfy experience than the anal probe nightmare of any airport these days.

TSA is creepy pervs but they're timid blue collar workers. They'll enjoy your rapeyscan image but they won't rummage through your phone looking for selfies right in front of you.
>>
>>54232137
And they use the chemical detectors for that nowadays.

So I guess the bottom line is, "if they ask you to decrypt your laptop they're targeting you and you'd better hold on to your anus".
>>
>>54232090
This.

The gubment tracks your every move online and set you up on a "Watchlist".
When you cross through that crap the TSA will see it and search your shit.
>>
I've heard of a case where a person's laptop was taken to the back room for inspection.

What would they check anyway? Just a quick look in images and media or something
>>
>>54232218
They would be welcome to do so, so long as I get it back and can make my flight on time.

Boot encrypted. Login required. Anything of any import is also encrypted again, and needs a file to open it. Said file only exists on my Tutanota account, which is also encrypted.

They won't get shit.

You don't travel in the US with anything important in your laptop, that's pretty basic stuff.

Also, if you go to China or somewhere even more sketchy than the US, put nail polish in your drive screw, so you know instantly if someone tried to access it physically.

That's fine. There's nothing they can arrest me for on my hard drive. If they want to spend billions of dollars cloning everyone's laptop, that's fine. I will still encrypt, and make it painful for them to find something that they actually want.

I think it's funny that they demand you turn the computer on the basis that it might be a bomb.

It sounds like if security asked you to prove that your toy gun was in fact a toy be demanding that you shoot him in the chest with it.

It is. But you have to do certain things to become FDIC insured.

I have nothing to hide, but my files are nobody else's business anyway, so here's what I'd do:

First off, I wouldn't do much traveling with my real work laptop. Can't afford to lose or fuck up a 15" rMBP. Some old and/or cheap yet somewhat capable shitbox makes way more sense. If it's lost or stolen or fucked, no big loss.

Second, I'd have two partitions on the laptop: one a normal-looking Windows install with random office files and whatnot scattered about, and the other with some Linux or BSD flavor. The internal HD wouldn't have a bootloader and would just boot straight into a non-admin user account under Windows. The only way to boot into linux would be through a copy of GRUB installed on the your camera's or MP3 player's SD card.

There's more that could be done but that'd probably be sufficient. If you want to take it further and are willing to sacrifice speed you could just have Windows be the only OS on the laptop and keep your *nix install contained on the SD card.

>I travel with a PowerBook G4 for this reason.

Fuckin hell, that's no exaggeration. The old pre-unibody iBooks, Powerbooks, and Macbooks are a fucking nightmare to disassemble and reassemble correctly. I never want to have to do maintenance on one of those things ever again.

I would tell the cops my name is Jamal and I'm returning the laptop.
