From 720/1080p is fine. 480p may have some problems but just crank up scaling method of your choice.

No he's not. He'll never get >60hz without multiple GPUs at that resolution. Meanwhile with 4k you can simply run the games at 1080p and use scaling to get sharper EVERYTHING.
