upgrade to cm13, marshmellow allows you to use external sd card as internal storage.
>>
>>54181544
You probably have a 16GB memePhone and have 3GB of """" Live Photos"""""
>>
>>54181520
I feel you anon.
What the fuck Android.
Implying someone needs a 500mb limit because some applications may stop working because they need this high amount of space.

Hope there will be a Xposed mod to remove this shiet.

So, why is this happening and what is the solution for it?
(I'm seriously asking this because it happened to me too, with plenty of free storage space and while installing very small apps).
>>
>>54182801
I've checked, it seems you need to have 500MB free + the app size itself to install it. It doesn't apply for sideloading though.

Your phone has a mSD slot right?

Apps go into the internal memory and media goes into the mSD slot.

Android has a buffer that means there has to be 500mb of free space at all times. There's nothing you can do.

Meanwhile iOS allows you to install apps to the very last megabyte, take pictures to the last megabyte, and save media on the device to the last megabyte.

Android is meant to reserve the internal memory for apps and mSD for media. While you struggle to cram all your shit in 16GB/64GB iPhone there are poorfags with $100 android phones that buy a 128GB mSD (~$30) to put all their media in. Then they're left with 4/10 GB of internal space for their apps.

OP is either a nexus cuck or a retard that put media in his internal storage space.

You need 10+10+25 worst case : 45MB
>>

How the fuck is OP low on internal storage space though? You out your music/movies/chinese cartoons in the micro sd storage and you're left with like 16GB for apps. That's a fuckton of storage space to install 20-50MB apps.
>>
>>54185665
If /data and /internal_sd are separated
Phone 16GB
>/system 2GB (Here installs OS)
>/data 2GB (Here install Apps (/data/app), and compiles apps (/data/dalvik-cache) and stores App internal data (/data/data/<app package name>)
>/internal_sd 14GB (Here is music. photos. videos, downloads , etc)

Yoy only have 2GB for installs APPS and DALVIK CAHE AND INTERNAL DATA

I had this same problem. Some Googling revealed that I should clear the log through adb. After that didn't work, I used an app to clear the cache. Eventually that didn't work. The final solution was to get SD Maid Pro and do a scan and delete. It found close to 500MB of junk.

What a load of shit. My $40 LG Volt has a tiny 8GB internal storage space and 4GB of it are usable to install apps in. A 16GB phone would have ~10GB of internal storage space for apps.

Because most people are cheap and buy 16GB.

The problem with Android though is that storage management is just terrible. iOS is way better in this point, though this isn't really hard to achieve with sandboxing and apps unable to write shit everywhere they want.
>>
>>54186741
I'm smart with money, I only buy what I need. I have a job irl so every cent I spend hurts, I'm sure you'll know that feel when you get a job too. I need a phone that can take ok photos and has a microsd slot to put my Chinese cartoons/movies in. My LG Volt has served my needs. Though I do plan to upgrade to a zte warp elite soon but that's mostly because I just want more RAM on my phone.

Yeah, don't skimp on storage. I initially bought a 16gb card thinking that I'd never use it all up. Ended up filling it up withing a few months. Went and bought a 128gb card and then put the 16gb one in my camera.

question. when you buy an android phone with like 16 GB internal storage, how much of that is available to the user? in ios it's like 11 or 12.

Not gonna reveal too much about my life but I could buy an unlocked Galaxy S7, 200gb mSD, and overpriced otterbox case right now and I would be fine. I just chose not to because I don't really need any of that.

>>
>>54181559
wait. so until now you couldn't do that? what was the external memory used for then?
>>
>>54187050
Not him, but mostly songs, pictures, certain apps that could be put on SD.
>>
>>54187065
i see. so for apps you were limited to the internal storage? what was the reasoning for this?
>>
>>54187079
Some of them, yeah. Some you could move to your SD card. Not really sure why, just android being android ig.
>>
>>54187031
S3 and S4 was the epitome of Samsung bloat. They've gotten a lot better with their newer phones though. But yeah, I think you were able to remove most of the bloatware.

>>54187079
Reading and writing to an SD card is much much slower than from internal memory. Apps written to SD card will be slower to load.
>>
>>54187103
i actually thought iphones were bloated, because a lot of the time people who have 16 gb devices run into problems. constantly having to delete stuff, and there was the shitty ios 8 update that required about 4.5 gb of free storage which on a phone with 12 gb accessable meant a lot of people just said fuck it and didn't bother. ios 9 kinda fixed it with needing 2 or 1.5 gb.
at least most android phones can use micro sd cards for music etc

>mfw no sdcard slot
>>
>>54187079
Because of privacy concerns. If you lose your android phone someone can remove the microsd card and extract private data from it on a computer. Yeah you can encrypt your microsd on android but most people don't. So eventually android devs decided to outright ban apps from running off a mSD all together.

The "microsd cards are too slow" is just a meme. Cheap UHS-I microsd cards write at ~24mb/s and read at ~48mb/s. That's plenty fast for phone apps.
>>
>>54181520
Not only that, once you have around 500mb left all apps starts to present malfunctions.
>>
>>54187184
What were you thinking? Were you drunk when you bought your shitty onplus/nexus?
>>
>>54187219
I bought by the end of 2014, back then I had no idea what to look after in a phone.
>>
>>54187186
aren't you in danger any way if you don't encrypt? can't they also read what's on your internal memory?
>>
>>54187249

Well, lesson learned then. Buy a new phone with support for an sdcard and stop blaming Android for a mistake you made earlier in life.
>>
>>54187273
>aren't you in danger any way if you don't encrypt?
Not really, as long as you have a lock screen pattern/password then nobody can read what's on your phone. Worst they can do is factory reset your phone and gain access to the microsd card. Your camera app saves to internal storage by default so thieves will only be able to salvage the chinese cartoons on your microsd card. However if you store sensitive data on your microsd card then you should encrypt it.

>can't they also read what's on your internal memory?
Nope, android will tell you to fuck off if you can't unlock the lock screen. Only way to access data on an un-encrypted but lockscreen password protected android phone is to remove the NAND chip and have it read by computer scientists.
>>
>>54187364

If you run TWRP all of your phone's memory is exposed when you connect it with usb to a PC. Still no idea how to prevent this besides encryption.
>>
>>54188098
That's the point of encrypting. Or having a locked bootloader, though this still isn't as safe as just encrypting.
>>
To those fags saying

Of course I leave it on the SD card, all of my storage is filled with my own apps plus meme pre-installed one's. That said I still should be able to fucking install shit to the last megabyte!

>Of course I leave it on the SD card, all of my storage is filled with my own apps plus meme pre-installed one's. That said I still should be able to fucking install shit to the last megabyte!
No you shouldn't. Those last 500MB are reserved for system stability.

You're obviously storing something other than apps on your internal storage because 16GB for apps should be more than enough for your shitty android games and 100s of apps you will never use.
>>
>>54189517
This isn't just about me and I don't always use up my entire storage, but when it does happen from not deleting cache and shit it gets annoying
>>
>>54189517
Also this post serves to show how much of a meme non-stock Android phones are.
On this HTC One there are almost a hundred apps you can't fucking delete. Facebook alone is preinstalled at 200 MB!! The Gallery app is around 80MB, Internet 70MB etc.
This is the last time I fall for the Samsung, HTC, LG meme
>>
>>54189550
If what you say is true, how the fuck can you fill 16GB of storage with apps and cache. Do you know how ridiculous that is? 2 GTA games + many smaller vydias + facebook/twitter whatever apps will only take up like 4GB at most. Make it 5GB with cache generated over months. There's still a fuckton of room left over to record yourself whacking off in 4k for at least an hour.
>>
>>54189607
nigga even after all that bloat you still get 9-10GB of storage space for apps on a 16GB phone.

If you play that much fucking vydia then get a 32GB android phone. Just make sure to avoid nexus and oneplus phones they're worse than lg, samshit, and htc combined.
