Guts thread
>>
>>54170571
6/10, do you enjoy getting off starting guts threads with such shitty guts?
>>
>>54170848
yes. greatly so. It's even better when the first post is complaining about my shitty guts.
>>
>>54170919
I figured as much, hence the question.

So much of that could be cleaned up with very minimal work, you MUST do it to annoy people.

Keep at it.
>>
>>54170571
Holy hell these Tongas get bottlenecked by Piledriver so badly, because of the low memory bandwidth.
Also, why that terrible motherboard, which give no room to overclock because of bad VRM configuration?
>>
>>54170952
>cleaned up with very minimal work
actually no. The CD drive overhangs the MoBo cable hole, so the mobo cable has to go there. The CD drive is also stuck inside the case, so the IDE is also needed. Not much I can do
>>
>>54171019
Some cable ties could at least help that wire mess tucked under the CD drive.

Also upgrading to SATA would help a great deal and is super simple. It's not like it's a bluray drive, a SATA DVD drive is $18. Take a hammer and knock that shitty IDE fucker out.

Or better yet, get a non-zalman case and thank me later.
>>
>>54171072
Mate I've tried everything to clean it up. I have a SATA drive but I can't be fucked to put it in
>>
>>54171072
Oh yeah, so very simple, you only need to buy new hardware.
Those '18$ SATA DVD drives' have absolutely shitty lasers, dying in few months: i've had eight Samsung and LG cheapo drivers die in that timeframe, while my old noname IDE burned still works perfectly after 14 years of use and thousands of burns.

Don't let him get to you, for what you're working with your guts like fine.

Though I'd recommend a new case when you upgrade motherboard/CPU because that zalman case doesn't look very nice to work with at all.

Why all these (expensive) X99 boards have shitty VRM configurations and tiny heatsinks on them, when those Haswell-E chips eat power like crazy? (my 5820k@stock eat more wattages than my [email protected]).

Considering i've gotten my 5820k stable up to 4.5Ghz and RAM up to 3300Mhz, i'd say it's fine.

You might think its shitty design or configuration, but you're also not the one designing the board, if it were not a good configuration, they wouldn't have used it. The board OCs well, what more can you ask for?

If it needed a better VRM heatsink, it'd have one.

You're kidding me.
And your VRM temps?
>>
>>54171322
And i mean after two hours of small FFT test with prime (with all six cores of course).
>>
>>54171353
Well without an IR thermometer it would be pointless as I have no way to take an accurate measurement for you.
>>
>>54171395
There is no VRM temperature sensor on that board? They usually give fairly accurate temps on these X99 boards. Probably ITH87* sensor.
>>
>>54171310
Hows the performance
>>
>>54171444
I've got
SYSTIN
CPUTIN
&
TMPIN3

I assume it's TMPIN3, but I can't confirm. If that IS the VRM temp sensor, then I've seen it max around 65c in prime95 stability testing. Though rarely does it go over 55c outside of stress testing.

>i mean after two hours of small FFT test with prime (with all six cores of course).
Well i wont give you two hours, but after ~20 minutes we're up to 51-54c on the cores and 58c on the VRMs.
>>
>>54171528
Those labels can be different even in same motherboards, so yes, it might hard to say which is which.

>max around 65c in prime95 stability testing
That is decent temp with [email protected], but after how long? The VRM temp usually rises slowly, but surely.
Then again, for long term reliability i would not go much over those temps.

Either way, its just nasty that boards that start from 200$ cant have few more grams of aluminium to make chipset heatsinks larger and thus having better heat dissipation.
>>
>>54171674

>>54171672

My long term 24/7 OC is 4Ghz anyway. Not like i'm running this thing at 4.5Ghz all day every day, I just have stability tested it up to that degree.

anything over 40c is not optimal, anything approaching 50c is going to shorten the lifespan of the drive. Make sure you have proper airflow.

Speccy never shows proper OC, it also doesn't show DDR4 RAM and occasionally wont read temps correctly on certain CPUs

I still stick by my comment on your HDD temps, make sure it doesn't stay over 45c regularly.

Because it isn't that it doesn't show "proper OC" like >>54172684 said, it just doesn't show clock speeds on the overview at all.
The "@ 3.50GHz" you see on the overview is actually a part of the full product name of the CPU, since Intel likes to note their base clocks in the names for god knows what reason.
Same reason why clock speeds don't show up with AMD CPU's or Core 2 and earlier Intel CPU's: >>54171310 >>54170571

Son, you built something that can never be upgraded, AM4 comes out later this year, that motherboard is from 2012, buying AM3+ in 2016 is just shooting yourself in the foot.

You're better off getting a cheap intel, because at least you can put a higher end CPU in there in 3-4 years when you need to upgrade.

With this when you need to upgrade you will have to buy EVERYTHING new again, and since that CPU is 3 and a half to 4 years old already, you will probably be needing an upgrade within 2 years.

I've got the itch to upgrade but I don't actually need anything.

>>54173139
I used to have an Asus GTX 560 too. Got it to bench at 1000MHz.
>>
>>54192867
My only wish is that is had just one more input, but for the price I paid, I can't complain.

>>54192916
Yeah, that's it. You'll probably get one that has back-light bleeding if you buy one, but a hammer on the inner frame will fix it.
>>
>>54192916
I prefer the one for $100 more with the tiny ass bezel and the samsung panel.

It also has display port.
>>
>>54193003
>>54192985
I'm reading about that right now, and it says that maybe they come with dead pixels. I'm kinda lost and all I want is a good 2K monitor.
>>
>>54193023
As far as I know, they aren't common. My didn't come with any, at least.
>>
>>54193023
I got two 25" 2k Asus pb258q.

No problems with them what so ever, paid $265 each. I think they go for more than that regularly though.
>>
>>54192916
>i can't find nothing about korean, but is that the monitor?
yes

>>54193003
the one with the display port has a scaler and INPUT LAG. DVI only model is the best one as it has no scaler input lag
>>
>>54192985
>Yeah, that's it. You'll probably get one that has back-light bleeding if you buy one, but a hammer on the inner frame will fix it.
I got one that was "pixel perfect" I indeed have no dead pixels, but also no backlight bleed.
There appears to be some blemish on the backlight that is only visible when displaying a solid monotone gray color. Got mine off eBay

Sweet my new hardware came in

yes I realize what I'm getting myself into with an FX chip, but there really isn't much better for the money outside of used Xeon stuff
>>
I want to spend 3K on a machine, and I know nothing about specs. I want someone to make the purchases and assemble it. Someone experienced with a record to show. I'll give you 2.5K for the hardware, 0.5K for your trouble. Any takers?
>>
>>54193389
do NOT get the HDMI model, In addition to having INPUT LAG, they also do not run at the 96Hz to 120Hz the DVI only models run at

Again, THE DVI ONLY MODEL IS MUCH BETTER
>>

No problem, windows 10 isn't bad, but if you're concerned about privacy or whatever i guess that's a legitimate concern.

What's the best method of dusting out a pc without using one of those big dusters which could potentially create static?

Also what's the best way to eliminate gpu sag? Inserting the power cables from the top?

I just had this down here not too long ago. this was all done by a car guy, sans the graphics card I had to pull because I can't find my DVI-VGA adapter to hook it to the KVM switch.

Asus P8Z77-V LK
i5-3570k@stock w/V8-GTS stuck on top
16GB of DDR3-1333
2TB Tosh-rebrand Hitachi
R9-270 4GB? I think
and some Fractal case I can't identify. Google says it's an Arc, so...

shit colorscheme, but he did a fairly good job on the routing, zipties and all, just from watching tutorial videos. fun part was, he told me he actually went and torqued down the screws with an actual torque wrench and extensions into the heatsink mount "because he could" and did it by eye. that thing is never coming off and that i5 runs absolutely icy before overclocking with the fans on low.

0/10 paint on heatsinks introduces a layer of thermal resistance.
