Besides, that's how free software works. You can write and implement patches that are not upstream. I highly doubt this guy wrote his own icon view widget. You can fix software bugs and add features, but you can't give KDE developers a clue about design.

If using Arch, there are 3 KDE packages.
1. for kde desktop (minimal)
2. plasma desktop
3. plasma meta (super bloted)

pacman -S plasma. It will literally just be KWin with the most important feature for configuring your system (System Settings and all KCMs). I recommend pacman -S konsole too, unless you want to fuck around in a X-less tty.
