Often times you can actually just get your prescription and order online from one of those glasses sites for as little as 15-20 bucks. Places like zenni optical. Shipping takes very long since they have it made from china and ship it to you but it's way cheaper. If you buy tinted lens, they would also typically give you free UV protection.

They just keep the production lines running and lose some paperwork, while using bad cuts of cloth, bad stitching, stuff that was rejected for the "main" brand.

It's the quality of the materials. They have to have certain thread counts. They have to have exact stitching. If the cloth cuts don't cut it (lulz) they are "rejected". Usually to be recycled and respun. That rejected shit just sits around until it needs to be processed.
