Why don't you raid 0 all the small hdds? You can put games/downloads/pagefile/programs (that aren't too important) on them and get insane speeds.

>didn't get the 5930k for the 40PCI lanes and instead went with the 5820k with only 28 PCI lanes despite running 3 GPUs that could actually use the extra PCI lanes

Good going.
>>
>>54116971
It's actually a monthly backup PC with old disks. Raid 0 means if I lose a disk, the other data are lost.

StableBit DrivePool allows me to do software pooling of disks into a 6.6TB pool. If one of the disks die, the data on the other disks are still valid unlike raid.

so you plan on having to upgrade CPU in a year or two when you buy 3 1180Tis or whatever the fuck you end up with next.

If you'd just got the 5930k you;d have been set for the next ~6 years

Why? It works well with blender/maya and It plays what games I do at 3840x2160/60 on highest settings.

There is no need to upgrade.

My three R9 390X's are rock solid on Crimson 16.4.1 Hotfix drivers and have been rock solid since 15.12 minus the downclocking issue which was resolved in 16.1 (I think?). They do get fairly toasty though peaking around 60 to 75c under intensive load.

>>54116958
I got mine to display the brand correctly a couple times, but then it would display the speed incorrectly.

Pic related. How meme am I? Note: this is an ITX system in an NCase M1 and the GPU is an R9 Nano, not a Fury.

Also, after much benchmarking, I haven't gotten the 950 NVMe 256 GB to overheat and slow down, so I'm guessing it's really just the 512 GB (which does naturally have higher write speeds).
>>
>>54127301
do you reckon its worth it buying a cooler for the 6300? im just using stock
>>
>>54127305
If you're not planning to overclock, then probably not. I figured the CPU cooler would be something to invest a bit extra in (like the PSU or HDDs) since it can last between builds, unless AMD or Intel massively change bracket designs.
>>
>>54127303
>Also, after much benchmarking, I haven't gotten the 950 NVMe 256 GB to overheat and slow down, so I'm guessing it's really just the 512 GB (which does naturally have higher write speeds).
After benchmarking I (have yet to see my 950 pro reach it's rated speeds once.

Write speeds around 600-700Mb/s and read speeds around 1,700Mb/s

That is unfortunately not all that goes into the performance. I mean, your system is still crazy good but it just isn't going to win benchmark wars.

The Z170 platform just has slightly better controllers (and it should, it's newer). Overall the X99 platform is better but the Z170 does have some advantages (the big one for me is not using the ASMedia USB controller).

It might even come down to just that specific mobo. All mobo manufacturers make some compromises, for instance Gigabyte tends to be kind of lame with the sleep performance.
>>

well, woke up, turned on the PC this morning. Wouldnt even POST.

I look at the motherboard to see the diagnose code, 04, 55, 60. Apparently southbridge failed to initialize and it isn't detecting RAM.

So I start pulling RAM DIMMS 1 by 1 and testing if it boots.

Finally just 1 DIMM left. Still doesn't POST.

Remove that one and replace it with one of the others.

POSTs fine immediately. I put in the other 2 sticks besides the one that didn't work.
3 sticks POSTs as well.

So it looks like 1 out of the 4 DIMMS in this 32GB Kit is dead. Thankfully it was nothing more serious, and I can run triple channel 24GB for a little while, at least until I get this other DIMM RMA'd.

What a fucking morning, not the way I wanted to spend 4/20.

I guess he actually owns this RAM but Speccy does not recognize it. If he owns 3 R9 and a 4K screen 16 GB DDR4 seem legit.
>>
>>54132456
You know you possibly need to send in the whole kit?
>>
>>54132457
There's one concern though, why would ANYONE post such low quality screenshots and poorly edit it with a computer like that.
>>
>>54132468
Nope, already spoke on the phone with them. Since I already tested the other 3 DIMMs they are willing to RMA just the one stick. They already sent me a pre-paid shipping label to send this one back.

>Low quality

1776 pix looks like a 4K screen (I have one myself).

Owning such a computer doesn't mean you're a PC pro. Maybe he just got master paint skillz.
>>
>>54132489
where do you find this excellent customer service.
>>
>>54132489
Thats not Corsair. They wanted me to pay the shipping and now I expect a NEW H100i within this week.
>>
>>54132497
Since it's within 30 days of purchase I am using the store I bought it from, not G.Skill directly.

>>54132504
That blows, I will pay more for good customer service and too many companies fail at providing it.
>>
>>54132514
what store, i am honestly intrigued.
>>
>>54132519
Microcenter, I bought it in person when I went to visit my cousin. Cause they had good CPU/motherboard combo.

While I was there they had a sale on this RAM as well. I live around 2 hours away or else I'd just go to the store directly and get new RAM today or tomorrow.

Implying that MOST of speccy threads aren't done by and for /v/.

That's what I thought, but then I realized I don't need more power for my job and I give no fucks about games anymore.

I'm probably getting an SSD anyway, and I could probably get rid of the GPU.
>>
>>54138159
an i3 and a midrange GPU is honestly enough for almost all my gaming.

Dark souls 3 might need an i5. But besides that everything i have played in the last year would likely play on that.

4 ports from the micro-ATX board and 8 ports from 2 x PCI cards, So 12 in total.

My first build I did on last year, very happy with it.

I'm not gayming that much with school so I could have probably bought a 960 instead of a 970 but other than that, it's perfect with a lot of power for my virtual machines.
