When did you grow out of communism and it's special snowflake variants like socialism?
It was 16 for me. I was kinda late and even at 15 I thought we needed a gommunist revolution

Strange priorities he has.
>>
>>54085755

I've gone through periods of being a communist shill and a capitalist shill.

Nowadays I don't think it matters, or I just don't have the energy anymore.
>>
>>54085539
How the fuck are you still alive? You should have died like a month ago.
>>
Richard Stallman needs to just off himself. This whole world is proprietary unless he moves in with some jungle people who've never had contact with the outside world.
>>
>>54085837
I'm sure he has no beef with McDonalds.
KFC on the other hand. Their secret recipe is proprietary.
>>
>>54085858

Stallman seems like one of those guys who if he had gone into politics would lead a revolution with good intentions and end up with Stalin style purges.
>>
>>54085755
i never grow out of communism because i was never retarded enough to find it appealing.
>>
>>54085898

Possibly, he's a clever guy but he needs to put his energy into something good. Like working with blockchain technology. Its not exactly what he's used to but its a major step in advancing freedom, making everything transparent and without restriction.

But no, he'd rather get paid to fly around to universities and talk about why cell towers don't respect your freedom and how ebooks are bad or whatever asinine issue he can think of.

What do we do when this man dies and with him the last bastion of freedom against the botnet hordes?

Are McDonalds foods open source?
>>
>>54085837
You've made the mistake of conflating two different ideas. Free software and ready to eat food are two different things that need individual consideration. You shouldn't be comparing arguments of free software to arguments of McDonalds food quality.
>>
>>54085898
Stallman did go into politics. The free software movement is not a movement that promotes technology. The free software movement is a movement that promotes the ethics (the politics) of freedom in software.
>>
>>54086009
Continue writing free software under GPLv3 or later.
>>
>>54085755
How is this communism? It's the exact opposite. Socialists fight for worker rights and compensation is the primary one.

Fuck off to >>>/pol/ basically
>>
>>54086009
1. Someone less autistic takes over and the movement goes through unprecedented growth of appeal

2. Stallman is canonicalized forever and becomes a legend
>>
>>54086291
To clear up the confusion: the point of free software is that the people control the means of computing. This is a very socialist-like goal. However in a capitalist society, it depends on individuals working for free, which while worth it, is very problematic.

This is why I want the government to fund major free software projects.
>>
>>54086310
Anybody else is free to promote free software without Stallman's cooperation today. Stallman isn't the worldwide administrator of free software. The next celebrity to step up and promote free software is going to find the same reactions as Stallman does because people simply don't care about their freedom. They are not more likely to care about freedom in computing if there was a different speaker telling them about it.
>>
>>54086371
>This is why I want the government to fund major free software projects.
Doesn't the US government throw a shittonne of cash into Linux (the kernel) via Red Hat?
>>
>>54086371
>However in a capitalist society, it depends on individuals working for free, which while worth it, is very problematic.
This is false. The free software community does not have to rely on individuals working for free to develop free software. The most common mode of free software development is individuals donating their own time to write and share free software but it is not the only mode to develop free software. Individuals and communities of people can actually join together and form a conglomerate who will hire a professional developer team to write the kind of software they demand. Otherwise, an individual can also hire a professional developer by herself.
>>
>>54086489
Yes, and the moment freetards find out they claim it's a compromised botnet (see Tor)
>>
>>54086489
Yes I should have been more specific. The government funds software, free or non-free, based on its interests.

I'm arguing that the government should work more in the interest of the whole working class. That it should fund projects based on _our_ interests.

And that's not just Linux, that's a shittonne of programs.
>>
>>54085875
>KFC on the other hand. Their secret recipe is proprietary.
So that's why KFC is better.
>>
>>54086537
>Individuals and communities of people can actually join together and form a conglomerate who will hire a professional developer team to write the kind of software they demand.

I'm all for that as well. These are not mutually exclusive solutions. In my ideal society the state doesn't exist and all work would be individualistic and voluntary. But hey that's a utopia, so at the moment I like statist solutions because they're much more robust than individualistic ones.

The triviality of software problems in the proprietary world is just as amazing. At least this has real-world implications.
>>
I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as McDonald's, is in fact, McDonald's/Big Mac, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Big Mac plus McDonald's. McDonald's is not an food chain unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning Big Mac system made useful by the Big Mac sesame seed bun, all-beef patties and special sauce comprising a full Big Mac as defined by Ronald McDonald.
Many food users eat a modified version of the Big Mac system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Big Mac which is widely used today is often called McDonald's, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the Big Mac system, developed by the Big Mac Project.
There really is a McDonald's, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. McDonald's is the food chain: the program in the system that allocates the food's resources to the other meals that you eat. The food chain is an essential part of a complex capitalist system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete government system. McDonald's is normally used in combination with the Big Mac nutrient delivery system: the whole system is basically Big Mac with McDonald's added, or McDonald's/Big Mac. All the so-called McDonald's distributions are really distributions of McDonald's/Big Mac!

Fuck off idiot, socialism is a stepping stone towards communism.
>>
>>54087258
I agree!

I should've just said "communists" instead of "socialists" to keep it simple.

I wasn't making a distinction between communism and socialism, but pointing out how ridiculous it was to suggests that communists/socialists want someone to "work for free".

Socialism is just the economic side of communism.
>>
>>54087369
Ehh this is a belabored point but not really. Communism is a set of values and an accompanying political ideology describing a stateless, moneyless, utopic society.

Socialism is a transitionary period.

Communism: Capitalism is too complex for any one person to fully understand the entire system therefor we should have one group control the entire system.

despite his Bernie loving ultra-paranoid communism he has some good points listed:

>Fine government contractors for hiring ex-officials.
True.

>No sports team can receive a subsidy from any US jurisdiction, and that include's the team's stadium or other facilities.
True.

>Businesses should be heavily fined if they use subcontracted workers to do any given kind of work for more than 120 hours in each of 4 successive months. If a business steadily needs that much work of a given kind, it should hire regular staff to do the work and give them regular benefits.
Makes sense.

>Any company that wants to use genetically modified organisms other than in research should be required to get a license from the state. One condition of the license should be a requirement to answer (for publication) any and all questions posed by regulators about the organisms, their planned use, and the experiments done on them. Thus, any aim of the company to keep secrets about them will be categorically rejected in advance.
Probably not a bad idea. Like that he says State and not Feds.

>Companies that are among the ten largest in any market should not be allowed to merge — period.
Whats a market tho, RMS?

>If a company has changed its name within the past 5 years, or if a substantial part of it was acquired from another company, it should be legally required to include a statement with the old name in all its publications, announcements, and paid publicity. This would foil companies like Blackwater and Philip Morris that change their names to escape the odium of their past deeds.
No, if the public is that dumb let them be fooled.
>>
>>54087479
Non-free javascript disrespects your right to:
1. Run the program for any purpose
2. Study the source and tinker with it
3. Publish verbatim non-modified copies of the program
4. Publish modified copies of the program

Stallman wants the implicit right to do these things and if he doesn't have all four of these rights, Stallman will refuse to run the Javascript program.

What has this guy made in the last 40 years? Any technology he acquires he slaps a big ol' GNU sticker on it in an attempt to stay relevant. He has entire seminars on why we shouldn't call it just Linux just because someone made something that works with something he made.
