Everything OP said is true. You can even read it in the Arch wiki. Debian is superior.

No it doesn't.
MP3 support isn't nonfree if you use lame/ffmpeg (which arch uses).
It's just against US Patent law (although MP3 patents have/will soon expire in most places).

As an example, parabola supports encoding MP3 *and* H.264. But only with free software (lame and x264).

Not in many countries where software patents aren't recognised.
Also, although illegal, they meet the essential freedoms and are free software.

Stallman endorses Trisquel and Parabola, and they allow you to install libdvdcss, lame, x264, etc. All of which are technically illegal to use in the USA.

yep
>>AUR is absolute convoluted shit
How?

I agree that it's way worse (security-wise and usability-wise) than just having a bigger repo like Debian does, but I never found it "convoluted." You simply download a build script and run it.

With cower, which also downloads dependencies, it's as simple as:

$ cower -dd a_package
$ cd a_package
$ vim PKGBUILD # look around
$ makepkg
# pacman -U *.xz

>>packages are OUTDATED compared to Debian or Ubuntu
I haven't experienced this except with packages broken upstream, like a version of supertuxkart that depended on an unreleased version of irrlicht.

Did you check in [testing]?
>>NOTHING worth all the hype it gets
Absolutely. No idea why everyone jerks it to death.
>>

Heres the thing buddy-o, arch linux sucks major balls. Compared to every other popular linux distro it has the lowest level of user friendliness. It takes way to much work for not much output compared to other distros like fedora, ubuntu, and debian. I jist don't see the appeal. Its not like the codebase is more organized, the os itself significantly more efficient, or that its even got regular support. Honestly I see no reason to have it other than as a novelty. It really doesn't have a place in the world of Unix kernel os's (including android), because if you really wanted a difficult to install, practically useless os, you could just install gentoo.
>>
>>54009843
>It takes way to much work for not much output compared to other distros like fedora, ubuntu, and debian.
I bet a million dollars I'm able to set up a complete system faster with arch than you with any of those distros. If you consider installing Arch to be "hard" you are clinically retarded. I'm not saying this to bash you or something, I actually mean it. From everything I've learned about biology, medicine and psychology, my conclusion is that you are clinically retarded.

Is Arch popular? Yes? I wonder why is that.

>It takes way to much work for not much output compared to other distros like fedora, ubuntu, and debian.
What output? Granted the installation of a DE and your preferred software is a one liner input.

> I jist don't see the appeal.
>Its not like the codebase is more organized, the os itself significantly more efficient, or that its even got regular support. Honestly I see no reason to have it other than as a novelty.

>Using an ad hominem argument to justify and indirectly defend your use of shitty, unstable, unsupported, messy clusterfuck of an os because you are insecure about your own skills regarding technology and want a way to prove you've graduated past the level of a "novice" user. In reality any experienced /g/entooian knows that the only important matter in choosing what os to use is the protection of the freedoms of the user and any degradation in choice or user friendliness just makes an os that much more unnactractive.

It's the minimalism of Gentoo without the benefit of compiling the software locally or the option to prevent it from overwriting your config.

If you're about the quit Arch try Gentoo or Funtoo first, if it's still not your cup of tea then Ubuntu's spins are alright and Budgie will be ready really soon.
