Autistic kid at school. Then an autistic kid who was obsessed with windows 95 joined. Both hated each other so much, watching spergs try and fight is fucking hilarious.

I first learned about it through taking a mandatory Linux introduction course and wasn't to thrilled about going into it.
Came out an autistic fuck falling in love with it and continued learning more both in classrooms and on my own time.

My Dad, who was convinced every year from 1995 to 2002 was going to be the year of the linux desktop.

My grandfather's friend, a middle-aged dad whose kids I was friends with. He basically just showed me Ubuntu and Zorin live sticks work, and I took it from there.
>>
I don't remember. It was far too long ago, and I was pretty young. This was back when Ubuntu 6 was then newest version, I think.

and now you're on /g/. It's beautiful.

I think the first time I heard about "ooboontoo" was when my friend brought showed me his doom 2 mods on his thinkpad in like...2007? I was 13. It inspired me because i didn't even know other OS's existed besides windows and osx. Now I'm just in love with idea of free software.

My dialup ISP offered shell accounts on their Sun Servers. Learned Unix and pretty much all of Internet through that shell: telnet, gopher/wais, ftp, and the old r-protocols. Like it and decided to run a Unix as my home computer. Went to the bookstore and bought a Sams Linux book with a Slackware disk in the back.

When I first started using the internet at home I started to get pages occasionally mentioning being hosted on an apache server running FreeBSD. A curious yahoo search led to webpages talking about all the different operating systems used to run the web,and I probably first learned about Linux there.

"That's a Unix book" stuck with me for years. When I first got on the internet and started using search engines I looked up what the fuck Unix means, and that took me down the path of knowing about Linux.

Made a friend for life and started the path of the neckbeard.
>>
>>53996466
I heard about it from an aitistic friend and then learnt myself, because I was autist too.
>>
>>53996466

I honestly was using Linux for years before I ever heard the word "GNU".
>>
>>53996466
My close friend introduced me to it when I was 12, I think he learned about it from his dad. He had wobbly windows and the 3d "desktop box" back in 2002.
>>

Was introduced when I was 17. Wasn't really impressed until someone showed me the apt-get tool.
Self taught from there.

I was around 14 and got to download slackware 1.0 from the university library search computer. I had to bypass some bullshit security password before I could go on the internet but then it's was fast (10mb/s) and just had to write the images to floppy disks.

Because /g/ told me to get it

My dad, who ran some Redhat variant on our home mail server. One day he installed Debian on my laptop for me. It was cool.

Some fat bastard during high school. He was known as the computer-fag. Fast forward a few years and the knowledge buried in 4chan's shit has vastly overshadowed him.

By 1st computer.
Poke and peek under the hood till I fuck it completely in about 4 days.
Take it bake to shop for reinstall windows.
Poke and peek and back in a week reinstall windows.
Repeat 3 or 4 more times. Finally ask how hard is it to reinstall windows yourself.
Guys look at each other...Not hard..google it.
Why don't you try linux?
What's linux?

I'm no expert, he was the pretender. I can barely identify the innards of a CPU and I like to think the minority of /g/ knows a lot from technology. Some interesting stuff gets discussed on threads regarding CPU architecture, ways to get energy, or something recent like AlphaGo.

friend in highschool used a laptop with it and was always complaining how it was better than Windows.
looked it up and turned out to be pretty fun to play around with, haven't used windows for personal stuff in many years now

My dad built his own Linux distro when he was young and basically the first time I actually used anything other than Linux was in elementary school, because all the computers in our house ran Linux (except one computer that had DOS because games, I think).

Shit sucked back then. It was impossible to try to use any of the computers in secret because they all had super extensive automated surveillance that controlled what programs and websites I was allowed to use.

Now I'm using Windows 7 and I am thinking of changing to Debian in the future.
