I'm a designer, computers are mainly a hobby. I went through a period where I was obsessing over ergonomics. I also just enjoy collecting and using unusual input devices.
Is it worth it if you're a programmer, writer, or someone that types a lot? Maybe. Keep in mind, if you've got the typical 40+ hours a week job doing whatever it is you do on a computer, you're spending over 2000 hours typing a year. In which case it might be justified. I figure it's at least worth looking into. Mechanics don't use cheap tools, I don't get why people who make their living typing use cheap as keyboards and call it good enough.
