By today's standards it feels pretty small. I have a Galaxy S5, I've had it for nearly 2 years now, it's 5"1 and I feel I could go a bit bigger while still being able to use with one hand and carry in my pocket/jacket without problems.
If I didn't want to spend a fortune on a phone I would probably buy one for 2-300 hundred from one of those quasi noname chinese brands.
I mean I suppose the iPhone SE isn't a bad phone but only for a limited circle of people (kids, women that don't care, probably not old people since it's small).

Iphones are not only overpriced but have lower total memory capacity (even if you get the 128GB version). The Z5 compact is an example, it has a 23MP camera. More resolution is always better (in this case almost twice) because you can do more cropping and Photoshop modifications without losing much quality or clarity.

Do you know what dynamic range is? You can't make up for lacking dynamic range in post. If the sky is completely blown out you can't recover it in photoshop.

The stuff that you mentioned is bullshit.
There are two things that matter in image quality, and a third one for smartphones
• sensor size
• sensor generation
• jpeg engine
The sensor size is the most crucial factor. Bigger sensor means better image quality, simple as that.
However sensor sizes are mostly standardized among smartphones, with few exceptions (some Lumias and Panasonics).
And here's where the magic happens:
Do you choose to use bigger photosites (the photosensitive devices each of which captures one pixel) and fewer of them, or smaller ones and more of them over the same area?
If you choose more and smaller photosites, you get more megapixels (better for cropping and printing huge sizes) but worse High ISO noise and dynamic range / colour rendition,
If you choose bigger and fewer photosites, you get less megapixels but better dynamic range and colour, as well as high ISO perforance.
If you're not printing bigger than A4, it's obvious that the less pixels with better colour+dr+ISO is the better compromise.
Higher megapixel numbers are more marketable so you end up with manufacturers cramming bullshit resolutions (anything than 8-10MP in tiny smartphone sensors is a bullshit resolution), sacrificing colour and noise.
They also skimp on optics (most aperture, and even more on optical formula and materials because that's even less marketable).

A last note on JPEG engines. The JPEG engine is the compression algorithm (more like the default settings for the compression algorithm) for the raw sensor data.
You can have perfectly fine raw data, and then have the JPEG engine screw it up.
Case in point, Xperia phones. The Sony sensors are top notch, they're also used in iPhones.

Well I'm not a shill, and I can say from experience of using both OSes that the apps generally ARE better on iOS. Google Maps is better on iOS. Facebook is better on iOS. Office applications on Android are a fucking joke. The camera app on iOS is faster and has better quick filters than Android.
