So my friend successfully jewed me into getting a pebble time steel and nice watchband for 245$. I have until Sunday to cancel the order.

Should I cancel it, /g/?
>>
why are they charging so much for it? is it much more powerful than the original pebble? is the battery life way worse as a result?
>>
>>53934558
It has a color screen, not an "e-ink" (its not exactly like an e-ink screen, but very similar) so the battery life probably takes a large hit.

The time steel actually has 10 days battery life instead of 5.

You can get an Apple Watch from Swappa for that amount.

I bet you can even get the pebble there for like 170
>>
>>53934642
All pebbles use low power lcds.
>>
>>53934642
battery life is as good as the original steel which is 7 days. the regular time is as much as the original regular pebble, which is 5 days.
>>
>>53934874
I wouldn't touch an apple watch, but I would consider an android wear watch with always on oled. When I checked those were all like 300$+
>>
the developer base for this thing is pretty small unfortunately.
it does what minimum of what a smartwatch is supposed to do like at-a-glance notifications and called ID and upcoming calendar events
>>
>>53935156
it also does motiontracking for sleep and activity.
>>
>>53934240

>>

>>53934783
I get 20-25 days out of my Pebble steel.
>>
>>53934240
I have two Pebbles, a red one I got for $30 when Target clearanced them out and a Steel I got for $50 from whatever that website is that sells big box store returns. I like them, but I feel like they'll both be dead in less than two years. The red one is already getting that flaky screen hiccup when the battery gets below 20%.
Meanwhile I bought a Casio dumbwatch with a ten-year battery for $10 that will likely outlive me.
>>
>>53935809
They let you return it after that long?
>>
>>53934240
You can browse 4chan through Trefoil.
Keep the order, OP.
>>
>>53934240
I bought it, gave it back some days after.

You don't need it AT ALL. Even though the screen is decent and the battery life is good, it isn't absolutely worth it. The microphone doesn't get anything right, apps are VERY limited and often don't work well (the fucking weather was wrong, god damnit). The fitness functionalities aren't precise, the smart alarm doesn't calculate your sleep hours well, the RSS feeds on timeline sometimes duplicate and drain your Pebble and smartphone's batteries a lot more.

Okay, but I still get about three weeks from a full charge.
>>
>>53934240
I got a regular Pebble Time a few weeks ago, saved like £70 over the Time Steel on Amazon. Only real differences are the metal case instead of plastic (except for the metal bezel around the display) and slightly longer battery life at 10 days versus 7 (which also makes the Time Steel slightly larger).

>>53934642
It is e-ink (or e-paper, I can't remember what the exact term it) as are all other Pebble watches. It may be colour but it has the same features as the black and white version, that being no power required when displaying a static image and being decently viewable in sunlight without the backlight on.

>>53935156
>>53935581
It actually has quite a few features, although personally most of the app selection doesn't appeal to me. So far the only addition thing I have on mine is a compass.

Also worth mentioning is that whilst it doesn't have a speaker it does have a mic which allows you to reply to messages using speech to text and some other voice control stuff (I haven't actually tried any of that yet).

>>53936060
I'm calling bullshit, I'm not sure it would even last that long if you used it as just a watch (disconnect it from your phone). Your Steel has about the same battery life as my Time and even with minimal use I'd struggle to get a full week out of it.

Well, I do get 3-4 weeks on a full charge, and I posted a picture of ~20 days with 25% charge left, so...
>>
>>53936183
Got a Time too.
If you need some app suggestions, these are the ones I got on mine: Snowy, Stopwatch, Timer, Notes, Checklist.

To me, voice recognition actually works pretty well, especially if you keep in mind that I'm not a native English speaker. Using Snowy is kinda like Siri, a pretty neat voice assistant.
>>
>>53936286
Sorry but I just don't see how that's possible. It's advertised as 7 days and in reality you should get less than that with minimal usage.

All I can think of is you've turned off everything that could use power (so using it as just a watch like I said and you turn the watch off overnight or some shit. There's just no other way you're getting over 3 times the battery life that Pebble themselves claims.
>>
>>53936395
Unless he has like put in a custom battery or something.
>>
>>53934240

I'd get a Pebble for my PRIV but for some reason i'm not completely sold...
>>
I don't have the steel, but my Pebble Time is pretty nice. I mostly use it for media control and quick weather checking.

You mean emulate the aesthetics, you could put a Rolex watch face on it if you really wanted. The functionality of the watch extends far beyond what the face looks like.

Howd you get it that damaged? I've been wearing mine non-stop since september last year and still doesn't have a single scratch on either the glass and the border.
>>
I went to best buy today to play with all the popular smart watches. Honestly everything from pebble felt like a cheap toy from a toy store except for the round which was super nice but you're so limited by the pebble OS its pointless. The Moto 360 was the only Android Wear watch worth a damn and it stuttered like crazy (yes it was the 2nd gen). Apple watch was the only one that felt like a solid product and didn't lag every 2 seconds.
>>
Does Pebble still only have eight total slots for apps/watchfaces?
>>
>>53939472
Nope, not with the watches running the timeline style OS (Time, Time Steel, and Round). I can't remember if there is a limit but if there is it'd be quite high (50 sounds familiar for some reason). If you install too many then it can't store them all on the watch and it'll have to redownload them from the phone if you go to use one that you haven't in a while (commonly used ones will stay on the watch).
>>
>>53937789
There's no point to these things being smart, I just want one that can shake violently enough to wake me up and tell the time/weather over many days.
>>
>>53940040
The Time series recently received an update with different vibration settings. Your alarm can be this pretty long song which most surely wake you up and even if it doesnt you can decide to put the vibration to max.

Full android watches are like $20-$30 on Aliexpress. You can receive calls, change audio tracks, get SMS/IM alerts and do some simple web browsing.

Why you'd pay $250 for a glorified TI-83 is beyond me.
