Okay, the sales manager just offered me an iPhone 6s+ (128gb) with a free apple watch of my choice or a giftcard. Is the apple watch any good?
>>
>>53935598
5X if you don't mind the smaller screen with fuckhuge bezels and worse-ish(?) battery compared to the G4. With these downsides however, you get the added benefit of guaranteed fast updates for the next two years.

G4 is alright if you don't care about software updates. Just be wary about the boot loop problem.

REPOSTAN FROM DEAD THREAD
So I'm finally upgrading from my iPhone 3. What compelled me was the Uber webapp not working when I needed it to.
I don't really play games or fuck with social media (though it might be helpful when I need to manage my company's presence). I'll probably get the Slack and Trello apps and use the browser some more otherwise I'm not sure how else I can leverage the increase in mobile computer power to actually literally improve my quality of life (any suggestions?).
That said, I was thinking of the SE for the form factor. What do other phones do better that I should seriously consider? The Xperias aren't stocked near me and I saw some posts on /g/ before lamenting build quality issues. Can anyone verify?
>>
>>53941154

>>

>>
>>53949188
I don't play games but I'm browsing web a lot.
Also social media, texts, calls, skype, gps.
I also take a lot of pics so I'd love to have a phone with good camera.

Overall I need a traveling companion.
Thus the gps, camera and battery life

I can't really tell how long I'll be using it per day.
>>
>>53949212
Honestly, might as well find a phone with a larger battery. Though a Mate 2 w/ CM11 + greenify would probably be able to make it last 2 days using that, it's a bit slow to even be usable in web browsing and GPS. I'd recommend going to >>>/g/CSG and asking them for a phone with a 7Ah+ battery. 4.1~ Ah just doesn't seem like enough for 2 days of the tasks you mentioned.

any LG G3 users here?

need to buy a new phone and for the 260€ the G3 currently sits at here I think its a quite good deal specs wise, but I do wonder how the phone holds up in the long run since I expect to be using it for a long time?

I just really fucking hate touchscreen keyboards. They take up a ton of screen space and you can't touch type if you can't feel the buttons.
>>
>>53950927
>I just really fucking hate touchscreen keyboards. They take up a ton of screen space and you can't touch type if you can't feel the buttons.
I can literally touch type on mine (thus why I can go up to 40wpm). You just have to practice.
>>
>>53950845
also, the standard LG G4 sits at around 360€. I can afford it but I should be restrictive with my money atm.

main reason for replacing my old phone is that it is not stable, sometimes the network drops and can only be fixed by restarting the whole phone, the speakers are broken and I cant hear shit so I have to use a headset every time I get a call and the camera doesn't work at all in mild to low light environments. All those features are quite important for me since I work as a consultant and run a hand crafting business on the side (good camera performance is important for communication with customers etc).

So how much better is the new hardware generation? It's getting about time to replace my Gnex, so I was thinking about picking up a 5X. if you just installed adb you need to reboot.
then enter usb debug, connect adb, use adb devices, you should get something like "enable the key" on your phone's screen, hit accept and you are good to go

Is this what you're referring to?
I got the version number.

(I'm strictly following this guide because this is my first time rooting so I am unsure what you mean about using the adb devices then enabling the key)

Not bad for what it is, but overpriced by about $50 if you're an international customer. If you're in the US it's perfectly fine for casual phone use of browsing and playing some non-intensive games, if you want to spend that much for it. Unlocked phones available in the US are a shitty selection, I wish more Chinese companies would just sell B versions of their phones for US band frequencies (all modern Snapdragon processors offer the bands for LTE already).

Good: 5.5" 1080p, 3000mah battery, fingerprint sensor, really nicely designed aluminum body, dual sim with dedicated sd card slot with 128gb exfat capacity

Bad: trid and true 13MP Sony IMX214 sensor that fits midrange phones well but for $200 there's better options that Huawei chose to overlook, only 2GB ram / 16GB rom

I recently got an S7, noticed that the left capacitive button is used for opening recent apps, as opposed to opening settings like my old S3.

Opening recent apps with one press is very nice and convenient, but I need the old option back for opening the settings/preferences of a certain app which won't display the option for opening settings on its own.

I don't want to lose the recent apps functionality of the left button, so is there some app to change the function of the hardware buttons? If possible I'd like to access settings of an app by longpressing the home button or the back button.
>>
>>53963937

long-pressing of recents button works as menu button on my phone. maybe it's the same for s7
>>
>>53964544
I found a very neat 3rd party app called "All in one Gestures". It can assign many different functions to the hard keys, but the option for opening an app's settings is absent.

It's infuriating, either the whole world forgot that function existed or Google must have removed it entirely with their newer versions of Android. To think it would be fine if the app I'm using was updated to display the options within the app.

5X, 6P, or G4?

My G2 and G3 both started bootlooping for no reason so I'm wary of LG phones. My dad has let me use his iPhone 6+ for the last week while I decide on a new phone. I hate the size of this thing, and the 6P is the same size so I don't know about getting it.

You might get root since the European version is less locked down than the North America/China Snapdragon, but you won't see any AOSP custom ROMs because of the exynos chipset. So no CM... you are probably stuck with touchwiz.

YOU COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS

>>53972069
I learned a lot just from viewing topics on the XDA forums for my device. There's step by step tutorials for unlocking the bootloader (will wipe the device when you unlock it), flashing a custom recovery, and flashing updates (which you have to do with a custom recovery, since OTA updates require stock recovery)
>>
>>53972141

My problem with unlocking bootloader is that 'fastboot devices' doesn't fucking work. And i've browsed threads about this problem for the whole day yesterday. Im prob gonna resort to using a toolkit.
>>
>>53972180
Well the best devices for unlocking, rooting, etc are the Nexus devices. You can even get them replaced under warranty for hardware defects after rooting and unlocking the bootloader.

Other phones are kind of hit and miss, they usually come with the caveat that your warranty is void if you root and/or unlock the bootloader.

HTC is fairly good with allowing unlocking of the bootloader (although I hear they do some weird stuff with something called S-OFF), I think the M8 and M9 have fairly good developer support so the 10 will probably have it too.

LG has some models that are unlockable and have official CM, but for the G4 it is only one of the many model numbers that have official bootloader unlock (and not the ones you get from carriers) and you also have to worry about the bootloop issue even if you don't modify the software. The V10 has essentially no developer support due to the meme secondary screen, and the G5 has all sorts of weird modules so it might not ever be supported.

Motorola is fairly good and even the stock software is pretty close to vanilla Android, but they were purchased by Lenovo so they might start to become shitty.

>>53972343
You have to allow "OEM unlocking" in the developer section in settings (tap build 7 times to unlock this section).
>>
>>53972343
>>53972369
oops I meant "USB debugging", since OEM unlocking is only for unlocking the bootloader

You also have to install the proper drivers.

They (kinda) lied about the G5's construction before launch, which upset a ton of people (myself included).
But its build quality is still about as good, if not slightly better than the rest of the LG G line, in my opinion - aside from the V10 however, which had a nice, rugged build.
No experience with the modules, but it's fine if you're removing the battery once every now and then like when I happen to be having a long day, like I did with the G4. Though in the end the modules are optional, so it isn't really a con if you decide not to buy them.

Cameras are pretty great.
TL;DR:
-G5's front camera is better, but the S7's front camera is a wider angle, if that matters to you.
-S7's main shooter is a little better (mostly in low light), but the G5 has more versatility with the secondary wide-angle lense.

Guys, I need a new phone. Currently have a LG G3 but the battery is fucked but even with a new batter my battery life is shit, the phone gets hot and I think it's a bit too big.

My budget is 350 euros.
I want:

> 32 gb or an sd card slot

I've no idea what to get. I was looking at the Xiaomi note 3 pro and the Oneplus Two Mini but they haven't released those phones in yurop yet.

I was unironically thinking of buying the iPhone 6 se, but it's too expensive for me I think.

Just don't bother with them.
I was a Windows Phone advocate from 2010-2015 until getting an Android.
Most of the apps haven't been updated since WP8 came out in 2014, and the OS itself barely ever received updates either.

When 8/8.1 came out, it was on its way to becoming a good platform, but it stalled and has just fallen behind.
Even with WP10, the apps are still just as old, and only getting older, and from what I hear, even though it's an update from 8.1, it's just too bloated to realistically run well on their hardware.

It's a platform I really wanted to love, and stuck with for a long time, but Microsoft backtracked on updating all WP8's to WP10, and will only release it to select devices.
They're not releasing new Lumia phones this year, and might actually be axing the line and replacing them with "Surface Phones" sometime in 2017 or so.

No issues like the bootloop issue on the G4.

Nexus 5 was a tank that only had some power button failures after 2+ years.

Battery life is pretty good, and camera is way better than the Nexus 5.
>>
>>53974592
>I've heard nexus phones have awful battery life
what

It's 2700mAh with a medium-sized 1080p screen and a heavily-optimized OS

>>53974620
>how much the sofware experience differs between a samsung, sony and google etc
It's all about the skinning really, each company settles on a design direction. That design takes a (somewhat small) toll on performance, but is not substantial to the experience. Google Nexus phones have basically no bloat, as they're what all other company skins are built upon.

>if i end up with a flagship current gen phone ill be fine if i dont bloat it up myself
Pretty much, make sure to read reviews before purchasing. Some great companies drop shitty flagships (seems like the G5 will be a flop, but time will tell)

Custom ROMs are only for like 0.5% of users who really want something different. In layman's terms they're similar to the set of users who jailbreak (still a thing?) iPhones.
>>
>>53974699

thanks for clearing things up

yeah jailbreaking is still a thing and something i got into quite a bit so thats why i ask about custom ROMs, since the most appealing feature about android is its customizability compared to iOS
>>
Nexus 5x or iPhone SE?
>>
>>53974756
>its customizability compared to iOS
You can still customize a hell of a lot without a custom ROM. Apps like Tasker are great for making your phone do what you want.

Research your phone model and custom ROMs to see if they're compatible. Some manufacturers such as Samsung are strict about not allowing custom ROMs
>>
>>53974826
Should be a matter of what OS you want.
>>
>>53974826
5X is a phone LG wish it never made so be aware of that.
>>
>>53974826
They're pretty similar to be honest. The N5X is the Android user's mid-range and the SE is the Apple user's mid-range. If you like iPhones, you'll love the SE. If you like Androids (and Nexus project in particular) you'll love the N5X.

>>53974873
LG has shit customer service with all phones. At least with the N5X the software is controlled by Google.
>>
I'm getting a new phone, anons. Which is the best out of these phones?

Oneplus X
Oneplus One
LG G3
Nexus 5x/5
Honor 5
HTC E8
>>
>>53974926
I would pick between OPO and N5X
>>
>>53974926
Don't do yourself the disservice of getting anything but a Nexus. They're very far from perfect, for all kinds of reasons, but represent the only acceptable choice in the pathetic mobile device market.

just rooted my nexus 5, any recommended apps to get the most out of my device?
>>
>>53974926
I like the OPX because of the sexy build, but OPO is better on paper.

I love my Nexus 5X. I was a serial phone swapper until I got it, I think I'll use it for a while, unless the new Nexus (2016) is really compelling.

>>53974902
You get Google customer service. I read about a guy who had a hardware issue two years into owning a Nexus 5, and they eventually ended up refunding his entire purchase price back so he was essentially able to get a Nexus 5X for free.
>>
Would you guys recommend buying a new phone now or should I wait a month or 2?

What's a good replacement for QuickPic?

Depends, how badly do you need an upgrade?

Nothing really coming out until September with next Nexus

Boost mobile with an LG Volt 2.
Native wifi tethering doesn't really work, it starts and can connect to it but still says "no internet connection".
However, Wifi Tether Router works... For about 10 minutes then connection stops working, and have to disable and re-enable it.
Any thoughts on why it cuts out and how to prevent it from doing so? Even plugged in with the screen on it'll stop working after 10 minutes.

id like to use it for some VR occasionally.
Im poor and have no credit so also needs to be usable on various nigger carriers like boost, virgin, straight talk etc.
Atm im using an LG Tribute.
>>
Will this ever happen in our lifetime? I've been lusting for something like this ever since they unveiled foldable oleds. Imagine one of these combined with an e-ink screen, you would never need anything else.
>>
I Rooted my Device for the first time.
Are Root Apps the go-to at this moment?
Or should I look into other shit>
>>
>>53975705
Really depends on the phone, check XDA foe your specific model. Cyanogenmod is a typical go-to
>>
>>53950577
I did that with my 5c, and now it fucking ghost touches all the damn time and I can't figure out how to fix it.

What do you guys think I can get for my One M8 when I want to trade it in for the HTC 10?

And any good providers that would offer a deal with contract?

Great if you despise expandable storage and mobile data with all of your heart.

>the 16gb is on sale for 199. I think the plan looks good I dont use data unless im wifi most of the time. My current bill for virgin mobile is 60 bux for unlimited.
Yeah but boost will give you legitimately unlimited high speed data (no data cap) for $55/month. I use 40-60gb of data with boost almost every month. You say you don't use much data but it can slowly add up. A stringent diet of 200MB/day will result in 3GB of data used in a month. Meme fi will charge you $80/month and boost only $55/month. In fact boost will still charge you if you use 10, 20, 40, 80 gigabytes of data each month, they don't give a fuck.

You can also go with boost's $30/month play which will grow to 5gb of high speed data over time.
>>
>>53977327
*6GB of data used in a month

The Sony Xperia Z5 has been $500+ on Amazon for 2 months now ($539 for the US warranty one, which is the one I want).

Don't care about finger print scanners, I just want to fucking know one thing:
When will this fucking thing dip below $400?
