I don't think it's fried, but maybe it is.
I had this laptop about 3-4 years ago and when I set it down, my screen froze. I let it sit for a while and it didn't change so I had to turn it off manually. When I turned it back on, it wasn't working and I had to go into some screen. It said my hdd wasn't connected or something but i opened the bottom of my laptop and it was there. some boards said I had to install windows again or get a new hdd. I already have a new laptop and I was wondering if it was possible to move all of the contents (implying it still has all of the files) into a usb or something? Like can I take it to the shop and they can move all of the stuff into a new portable harddrive I can buy?
Also do you think thhe repairers would look at my files. I'm pretty sure I have a lot of porn on there.

This. A cold HD will give you like an extra 20 minutes to evacuate your important porn.

Put it in a zipllock bag, put in a freezer, take out, give a hard slam on work top, give it one hard hit with sledgehammer, then submerge in bath to clean the read heads, spray some wd40 over the circuit and you should get another month or so use out of it. A recent survey showed 76% of 200 women agreed this works
