So I have myself a power supplying with two 6-pin PCIe cables. I am considering buying a new GPU but it has two 8-pin power slots.

Are these 6 to 8 pin converters any good? I have never used anything like it and I am worried I might not be giving enough juice to the GPU if I where to use it
I do have a PSU somewhere with the right 8 pin connectors but it would be a real pain in the ass to find it and swap it out for my current PSU
Power supply and number of pins don't have much to do with one another, dumbo. OP may have an older, yet still high capacity PSU. All he has to do is properly adapt and he's golden.

The extra two pins on an 8-pin connector are ground, so they should be fine. Just make sure you got the juice.

Whats that 150w tdp?
Pretty doable if the rest of your components stay below 100w

Should work fine
Antec 400w Neo Eco
Pentium G640 sandy bridge based
R9 380 4gb non OC
1 fan
Honestly it might pull 250w from the wall full load
Most reviews running i7s/380s are pulling 280~
