What books did you learn from? I read Starting Out With C++ and it was a really great book. Probably the most well put together book youll read. Id recommend it to anyone.
Jumping into c++
Indroduction to Java programming is my favourite. Good exercises, very didactically written, covers pretty much everything from Java basics to networking, desktop appl. development, graphics, working with DBs, web development and even more advances data structures.
10/10 book imo

The comprehensive edition? Mines arriving tomorrow, it's like 1300 pages, pretty excited. After everything's said and done how proficient would one be with Java?
Do you guys know any good books about relational databases? Preferably mySQL. I'm a researcher programming in R but I really need to learn mysql so I can get a decent job with muh data science.

Yep 10th edition. I hear it's the holy grail of Java instruction resources so I'm hyped to dive in. While on the subject, what do you think of IntelliJ vs Eclipse?
More than halfway through javascript and jquery and finished the first obviously, i feel like these two books are for people who cant grasp concepts for shit, no exercises, mediocre examples, pretty shit tier. If you read these you need to do tons of practice to git gud. Dont feel too bad however i torrented them. Anyone got a good javascript/html/css book with good exercise and answers thats not in recipe format?
Although it's not introductory material like what op may be looking for, I found this book, symbolic logic and mechanical theorem proving by Chang and Lee to be incredibly interesting. It essentially covers all the discrete mathematics necessary for implementing a theorem prover. Very interesting read.

C Programming - A modern approach is the best beginner book if you want to learn C.

Intro Books that teach Fundamentals never go out of style, hence why the Head First Java Book is still in use.
The main point is to get into Documentation/Further Resources after you grasp the Basics to be up to date.

I really enjoyed the calculus book by Stewart, but I'm not really sure what is recommended. Obviously there are a lot of different types of math to learn, but if you're asking for math in general I guess you are thinking solely of calculus and not things like discrete math. Pic related is the Stewart book.
