0656 Data Network Technician in the Marine Corps

I personally enjoy the lifestyle, I got five years of education plus most of the important certs (CCNA, CCNP, Unix) so I'll have a good foot in the door when I want to get out.

I see myself doing IT work in 10 years, but I haven't decided what path I want to take in the industry.

Of course not, I have a degree in Systems Engineering and ended up in a shitty IT helpdesk job, I hope I can be a senior sysadmin in 10 years.

I'm a 2.5 year business major. I hate it, absolutely no interest in this field past the intro classes.

I get more enjoyment doing research on EE and CS. I'm thinking about switching, but the meme about how EE and CS majors are shit have been putting me off.

Help me /g/
>>
>>53910475
>never gotten an interview
Trust me, it's better than getting interviews but not getting the job.
It's really soul crushing, I've been to more than 20 and no one ever called me back.
>>

US

the only jobs i've ever had are temp work where I work at a menial assembly line for 8 hours a day with no benefits and they keep dangling "work to hire" in my face despite the fact that my coworkers are also temps and they've been there for 18 months and still haven't gotten hired.

Yes
College, some tutoring at uni, an irrelevant part time job
Probably not, I'm really autistic
>>
>>53910507
I was aware of the CS is shit meme but I didn't know EE was a meme major too
When you say "research on EE and CS", what fields?
>>
>>53910682
Aside from computer hardware, control systems and electronic design are just fascinating to learn about, at least from the perspective of someone who isn't conventionally disciplined in the field.

I'm currently juggling a few front end languages to see which I like using, I have interest in back end too though but I didn't want to overwhelm myself until I have a good enough grasp.
>>
>>53910398
Since I don't work in the tech field, yes. I don't see anything changing in 10 years.

many condolences anon, but working under a structure/guidelines will improve your abilities as an editor so that if you're ever severed from your current job you can always do freelance work while having diverse experience.

I know, maybe freelancing is the way. Some people have offered me to edit videos from a wedding and a party. Easy as fuck and pays good.

But i wanna work on the last dying years of TV, i did an internship once and i loved it. Now nobody hires unless youre an editing cuck who works all Adobe Products (some companies do check if you pirated the program) or youre a friend of somebody inside and have to suck some dick to get in.
>>
>>53911117
Don't. Being free of responsibility will be nice for the first few weeks, after you'll just be depressed and chances are you'll probably off yourself.

More likely than not, if you're fit for the NEET life you already are a NEET.

>>53910507
just fucking go for it. If you like the stuff, you'll do fine. CS and EE are only meme degrees when people do it just for money and a stable job. Such people will generally end up with neither.
>>
>>53911148
I'm currently doing some freelance work while I'm in business school. Look at your target clients, most of my projects involve businesses or people who have no idea what a pdf is so my process mostly involves pencil sketching and communicating closely before getting them a nice clean vector. I've reworked logos and signs for dozens of local businesses over the past year and it hasn't conflicted with my schedule in any major way.

Get some business cards made for yourself and put up a portfolio to show potential clients, you'll be surprised how powerful a sample work is for someone who isn't even considering a getting something done in the first place.

That's why I'm in business school, was originally going to major in accounting but it's not the kind of life I want desu familia

How is specializing in computer hardware in EE? I know I'll learn a whole lot of other things but I can definitely see myself working in an environment where that's relevant.

Best of luck, it's harder to be a freelancer if you don't have a gimmick. Get a gimmick.

>How do/did you like it?
So much that I plan on getting a MSc right after.

>I'm a 2.5 year business major
What's your math background like? Isn't business related math extremely basic? You'll probably need to take a few math and physics classes before actual electronics courses.

>not all too sure how I would fare sitting in a class versus learning out of my own personal curiosity
You can always have basic electronics as a hobby, but you probably won't land a job in the field
If student loans aren't a problem for you, I'd recommend switching
>>
>>53911372
>Get a gimmick.
Are people still falling for the "glitch" and "datamosh" meme? Its the best i got
>>
>>53911377
>business math is extremely basic
Yeah, I'll definitely have to take some more there's no doubt about that.

>If student loans aren't a problem for you
I've saved up enough to get through another three years of classes at my current school should the circumstances change. Each semester for me is less than $3k. If I want to attend a decent school how much more would I have to pay?

>>53911415
That's one, but most people that like it are capable of reproducing it themselves. Target a general audience, figure out what your preliminary clients like then over-utilize it (tastefully)
>>
>>53911480
>If I want to attend a decent school how much more would I have to pay?
I was fortunate enough to have rich parents willing to pay for college, so I don't really know.
You could always stay then transfer colleges for a master's, just don't be like most normie engr students to get accepted.

>I've applied to 50 job postings this year alone
I've applied for probably 1000 jobs in the last 6 months. Finally got part time work in a call center. Beats being unemployed. 50 job applications in a year... are you even trying?

I want to retire early (at 30) and become a rentier. Working is for slaves.

Renting is an 80 hour a week job, unless you hire a manager, and then it's a 40 hour a week job.
