X11 WORKS ON BASH FOR WINDOWS

LINUX CONFIRMED DEAD AND BANKRUPT
>>
Bro Linux was/is already dead and irrelevant.
>>
KDE can already run on Windows.

does this mean we can run htop on Windows?

It's sandboxed to the Linux processes.

Those errors..
>>
>>53904874
I'm not sure what this means.

Maybe it will keep developers on Windows, but at this point, why even have a windows machine if they've defaulted to tradtional UNIX tools for work?
>>
fuck yeah built in virtual machine.
shit i've had for years on windows but provided by virtualbox.

already came winfags?

I need Photoshop and Lightroom for work. I'm never installing a dual boot ever again. This will make my life much easier.

Protip: It's not a virtual machine
>>

Why the fuck would you run the worst things of *nix land on Windows?
>>

gnu tools. windows had always had shitty unix-like tools. every commercial unix switched to gnu tools before they died. it is windows turn.

i know its not. i'm limited to ubuntu and in virtual machine i can run every single shit that can boot.

you mad?

uhh, they are only doing this because powershell sucks ass. adding bash to it doesnt mean windows stopped being shit.

You now can run linux apps on windows
You can also run all the windows apps and games you love and need

There's literally no reason to use linux in 2016

This. By doing this, they admitted that powerlel was shit and that no pro can live without actual Linux.
They are literally promoting Linux on Windows, holy shit!

I can't believe there are still some cucks that pay for MS "spying as service" model because their boss makes them or because they can't boot into Windows for gaymen activities.

Or I could run a vm and have the xming run on windows?

I just don't see the point if this shit can't work outside of the virtual environment other than the filesystem.
>>

pajeet, you made a mistake using the phrase 'dual boot'. next time use 'i'm never dual-booting' when they give you that hindi script.

and no, thank YOU.
>>

this thing is FAST. way faster than vm

>>
>>53907366

>>
>>53907235

It's essentially the inverse of WINE. It translates Linux system calls directly to Windows system calls, exactly like what Wine does. Except Microsoft has the advantage of working with an open source API while WINE developers have to reverse engineer everything in the dark.

Still, it's significantly faster than a VM will ever be.
>>
>>53905019
This, just sounds like MS is making hyper-v implicit with a ubuntu install already to go.
>>
>>53907293
Maybe faster than a type-1 vm, not a type-2 m8.
>>
>>53906434
that's not what a botnet means tho
>>
>>53907694

Most people on /g/ only know the term "botnet" in reference to Chrome - which people started calling a botnet as a joke but eventually caught on by actual uninformed posters who don't know what a botnet is.

'Botnet' in modern usage essentially means 'data mining', though obviously that's not at all what a botnet is or does.
>>
>>53907694
If you are that new to /g/ that you can't use "botnet" the way it's used here, how about Windows distributing forced updates peer-to-peer using PCs of their customers?

Is that botnet enough for you?

Don't forget that MS implemented it directly in the kernel, which WINE doesn't do.

Winfags are by far the most ignorant people and the planet. Windows has been shown to be nothing more than a pretend OS that is marketed towards the self-righteous and arrogant retards that are gullible enough to fall for pyramid schemes.

They implemented GUI in the kernel too.

Even with "only" filesystem access, there's some obvious cases where it would be useful.

For programs like git, you can get proper native git support without any Windows fuckery in the way. Open bash, cd into the repo, and work exactly like you're on Linux. You can even use vim/nano/emacs/etc.

It's literally wine. Except backwards and with no need for reverse engineering just to run the most basic programs.
>>
>>53913482
not really
wine had to recreate the whole windows api
while just uses the straight linux libraries, so it's more similar to BSD's emulation for Linux binaries

so can i run vim on it

But it's on be default and you know the majority of consumers would never think to look for an option that might turn their home PC into an update distribution server.

I feel bad for people in rural areas on satellite internet with crazy data prices.

>>53904874
Did they write a non-shit terminal emulator to go with it? This is important.
