Is this still the best air cooler to buy? Trying to replace a noisy old AIO water cooler and I've heard a lot on /g/ about how this thing will compete with AIO water cooling and produce less noise.

That looks so fucking cheap
Nothing is better than water cooling

nh-d15(s) is currently the king for heatsinks. if you can fit it it would be the best. it keeps right up there with AIO's. i have a nh-d15 myself. tossed on some cooler master silencio 2400rpm pwm fans and keeps right up with my old corsair h100i with 3000rpm fans. runs MUCH quieter and doesn't leak water.

only thing better is AIO's with 3000rpm+ fans or custom loops.

>d15s is the newer version that comes with only one fan instead of two but it doesn't block the first pci-express slot do to its redesign asymmetrical shape. noctua jewed out and only includes one fan with it.
>d15 is the original successor to the d14, comes with two fans, but on many motherboards blocks the first pci-express slot.

and thats with stock 1500rpm fans. keeps right up with AIO coolers that had 2500rpm+ fans slapped to them.

you can't beat the d15 / d15s. cheaper than 240mm AIO's and keeps right up with them with lower rpm fans. you always have the option to toss on powerful fans for stronger performance as well.

>AC broke/tube leaks all over the mono
>components might not work after that

>air cooler doesn't work
>CPU is still passively cooled
>no components broken

D15 owner here.

I fucking love it. I have my 4790k @ 4.7 ghz and 1.288 volts. Idle temps hover around 26c usually, and I've never seen it go above 60c under full load. Plus it's quiet, I never hear it over my other fans.

Only negative is the size, but considering that I have a big case and that my desktop doesn't really get moved much that's a non-issue.

Quieter for sure, but it does not cool as well.

Thus, DENIED.

Pic semi-related, another cooler that takes on a D15 (I have it cooling an 8320e running at 4.7ghz, 1.428v).

New king of AIO cooling:

Arctic Freezer 240

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2016/03/09/arctic_cooling_liquid_freezer_240_aio_cpu_cooler_review/3#.VwVpe6R94uU

Basically it's cheaper than a DH15, it performs better and it's basically silent at all loads.

Personally I'd go for the 120mm model, since it's nearly as good and only costs $60. Amazing performance for the price.

the only reason why people hate this fan is because the color, if I was building a system in a completely covered chassis then I wouldn't mind using it. It's an eyesore with most components because it sticks out like a sore thumb. If there were beige and brown components or I knew how to mod parts better then I wouldn't mind using it more.

There's the price also I guess.

That's insulting to the aircoolers.
AIO's are fucking noisy as fuck and are far more expensive to boot.
