My experience with browns is so off. I like them for the wrong reasons. I dont think they are that tactile, just a werid bump if you press slowly. Barely noticable when typing IMO. I like them in my numpad/macropad/fkeypad you get the idea

When I had my numpad on the right my right arm was much more angled than my left arm. The QWERTYUIOP row was basically much more to my left so I can fit my mouse more comfortably.
Now I have the row straight in front of me and typing is very comfortable, and the mouse is in the same comfortable position anyway.
With a numpad you are kind of forced into positioning. If I had put the row right in front of me my mouse would've been too far away to be comfortable.

The issue with keypad on the left is that most people are going to input numbers with their right hand. In fact, most keypads are even designed for this since you have a big 0 button for the thumb.

Thanks to you guys I put an old keyboard with din-5 to work with my laptop.
It has white Alps switches which are clicky and quite hard to press. I wonder how are those switches better than a rubber dome? It has the same feel but a little sharper.

In my experience buying chink keycaps there may sometimes be some minor molding errors, but they'd still absolutely be good enough to replace stock caps.

It's possible to make keycaps out of PBT and use ABS for the legends, you just need some specialized equipment and more careful legend typesetting to minimize problems.
Vortex even figured out how to do true double-shot PBT, like the ones in this picture. However, you can see the legends look really wonky and the very unique manufacturing process is difficulty and expensive. From what I heard they had to throw away around 30% because of too big defects.

I wouldn't count on fully PBT double-shots getting much better.
Having ABS just in the legends isn't so bad anyway. The surface of the legends will wear a bit quicker, lose texture and get shiny, but you would hardly notice unless we're talking like +10 years of use.

Of course, instead of missing keys, the spacebar sticks if I push it down all the way. Works okay if I don't do that, but it looks kinda dumb and is somehow noisier (upstroke on the stabiliser, I guess). The picture doesn't do it justice - the green colour is more vibrant than you see here and is very nice against the black. I can't into photography though, so whatever.

Spacebar died if I remember correctly. I have been using a G710+ ever since, and even though I got it for free I despise it. It takes up way too much of my desk, the numpad and macro keys are useless to me, and the surface is glossy and a fingerprint magnet.
I have held off getting a replacement since our dollar is so shit and I've been investing in audio equipment instead, but I don't think I can take it any longer.

Hard to get a clean shot, it's dark here. Anyway, there's enough leftover cable between the wire and the plug, and I've done it in the past on a rubberdome, but I'd rather not do it here unless I absolutely have to, so for now I just taped it as tightly as I could, I'll see for how long the two keys don't shit themselves, then I'll decide. I just wish someone sold those usb cables though. I mean, they can be unplugged after all.

Well, both of these are exactly what I wanted. Seems like the keycool 84 has practically no availability for Canada (whats up with keyboard supply issues anyways?). However, the choc mini is actually available for purchase, exactly how I wanted it configured and is right in my budget. I'll do the due diligence of reading reviews but it looks to be a winner. Three tips for the Noppoo Choc Mini (as an owner)
- The PBT caps on the white version are quite nice (the black version has POM caps which will have a different, smoother texture)
- Make sure you get the latest model, you can tell by looking at the left modifiers. Make sure the ctrl, alt, and win keys are all the same size.
- If you ever feel like replacing the keycaps, you'll need a 1.75u right shift key (same size as the capslock key, these are relatively easy to find) and a 5.5u spacebar (this is very hard to find. there is a guy offering custom printed 5.5u spacebars on Shapeways though)

The Keycool has a standard spacebar, but has small right modifier keys to compensate (which are much easier to find replacements for than the 5.5u spacebar). Most Keycools will also come with backlighting, while the Noppoo rarely comes with backlighting (make sure to ask the sellers). Of course, ask for pictures of the Noppoo so you can see if it's the newer or older version.
All Keycools come with PBT caps I believe (grainy texture) while the White Noppoo comes with PBT and the Black comes with POM (very smooth).
Make sure to ask what switches are in each. Keycool comes with Cherry or Kailh (not great Cherry clones), Noppoo comes with Cherry or Gateron (awesome Cherry clones).

I picked up my votex PBT doubleshot set for I believe around $20-30 shipped and the only defect I could find was that the left shift and one other key had noticeably lower legend fill and wasn't even with the rest of the cap. It's not obnoxious unless I focus on it and rub my finger on it. Some of the others might be not dead even but it wasn't noticeable to me with typing or gaming. Only when I autisticaly rubbed each one to see if I could feel it. They are actually my favorite set of keycaps. Even more so than new vintage cherry double shots or the realforces PBT. It's really a steal.

I'm not sure if two guys is enough to justify using the term "people", but here's a keyboard in a dyson fan.
I want to buy a quiet mechanical keyboard since I don't want to keep waking up my girlfriend, so I'm stuck between buying:
A) Matias Quiet Click Keyboard
B) Buy a MX Cherry Keyboard with Red Switches and install some O-Rings

If your gf isn't sleeping in the same room as you're typing, it really isn't about the switch you get. The case is way more important.
A high-profile case with a lot of space will resonate more and be rather loud. A good example is the case of the Pok3r.
There is a lot of space beneath the PCB, which results in the keyboard being quite loud. Also you should get something to put under the keyboard (pic related), it quiets it down a lot.
Even clicky switches aren't that loud in the correct case and the frequency of the click itself is dampened by a simple wall/door a lot already.
That being said, the Matias QC are an excellent switch, but not as quiet as one would think. Their keywobble makes them quite hearable and not as quiet as they could be. Lubed, tactile Cherry switches in a good, low profile case aren't much louder, imho even quieter. But then again you have to desolder the switches to lube them, so if you don't want to do that, go with the Matias QC.
KBP makes quite good keyboards. If you're interested in upgrading the case, Tex makes some CNC aluminium TKL ones that fit it and look quite nice. It will also quiet the keyboard down (a lot).
