Noob here. I'm considering building a pc for the first time. I can't decide if I should get a 980ti or a Fury X. I'm going to use an ultrawide monitor. Also, which one is better for VR?
Only want vr? 980ti

I'm also worried about ultrawide. Can I play on max on any of those cards? Also, is there a big enough difference? Because a Fury x/z35 combo is much cheaper than a 980/ acer x34

FreeSync monitors will always be much cheaper, as the additional hardware required for GoySync adds a fuckton to the price. You'll literally never see a cheap monitor with it, unless Nvidia start eating the cost to prop it up (which it needs now that Intel are using FreeSync).

So which one do you recommend? Is the 980ti's higher price worth it or not?

I think you'd be silly to buy either right now when they're both about to be deprecated, but I'd never, ever pay the GoySync tax, personally. Literally the definition of paying for nothing, or alternatively paying Nvidia for the privilege of using their cards. Might as well let Jen fuck your girlfriend too at that point.
I'm a long time AMD gpu buyer. I ended up going with a 980ti over the fury.
The fury x isn't a valid competitor to the 980ti. 980ti outperforms it nearly ~50% once you OC it.
4gb of vram is only good enough for 1080p these days, the fury x stutters in the majority of games.

>what is HBM
Fuck off shillvidia

>point out facts
>Fuck off shillvidia
looks like you're a live one. can you vent out your frustration from fury x buyers remorse here so people can avoid making the same mistakes as you?

Nvidia bloatware is garbage though

Nvidias next lineup is right around the corner
better wait a month to see
>>53887867
so 390X 8G or 980ti 6G minimum then?
of course async fixes this but we don't have many titles that use that yet
