Since we have one for headphones, can we get one for speakers?

Questions, discussions, advices etc

Wish I could find a set of them P4s to try before I buy, love how small they are and being front ported they work great on a desk. Got a set of SB22s with a SMSL 60 amp right now. Not sure if they little speakers can compare

Anyone into DIY here? Gluing together my first tapped horn this week

I like both speakers and headphones but there's a very obvious and important reason headphones are better than bookshelf speakers alone: they can handle and produce lows.

Bookshelf speakers are utter shit without at least a small subwoofer. It's very simple physics - woofers need surface area to produce lower frequencies and bookshelf speakers are incapable of doing so.

Regardless of the type of music you listen to, a (decent) Subwoofer is THE single most important part of any audio system as 'bass' is by FAR the hardest and most demanding part of the spectrum, and small speakers are incapable of it.

They can't do it very well

Have you tried xb950's?
>>
>>53878185
I personally think a sub is absolutely necessary for any pair of speakers, be they bookshelves or towers. Even if your towers can produce bass well a sub will always do you better.
>>
>>53878185
Thats why you have HUGE bookshelf speakers

A little bit pricey but very nice. Depend of your room and kind of music you will need a sub

Hs8s are really good, they change the eay you hear music honestly.

Also what do the term bookshelf speakers refer to? Does it just mean small speakers because honestly ive never seen someone use speaks on yheir bookshelf

I am planning on making a DIY wallmounted controlpanel for my house on a raspberrypie and a touch display. My question is, do you know any thin, rectangular, wallmounted speakers (preferrably 2) that are about 15 cm high and just about 2-5 cm thick so i can put them on each side of the display? Been looking around but ive only found speakers that go INSIDE the wall and that is not an option.
>>
Someone ever had the Behringer MS40? I'm close to get them and I'm expecting a good quality from them
>>
>>53883994
You know how an instrument like a trumpet can take a relatively small disturbance at the mouth piece and amplify it by the time it comes out of the end of the horn? It's roughly the same principle. The subwoofer shoots into a small duct with a high acoustic impedance, and the horn gradually transforms the impedance to match the acoustic impedance of the environment.

Tapped horns in particular combine the wave from the front of the drive with the wave of the back of the driver to achieve lower extension in a smaller size cabinet
>>
>>53876236
depends on use case and room space
>>
Are vintage speakers and receivers a meme?
>>
>>53883772
There's a subtle difference.

>>53884677
It depends. If it was high-end, it's still good enough to use. If it was low-end trash, it's still trash.

>Bookshelf speakers are utter shit without at least a small subwoofer

My RB-61 II bookshelf speakers handle lows just as well as any of the headphones I have used.

I think there are two main reasons why /g/ doesn't like speakers:

1) Sound quality for dollar, headphones are much better than speakers. A good speaker setup costs more than a comparable headphone setup.

2) Speakers are generally disruptive unless you are in your own private house. Most of /g/ does not have a house to themselves.

Realistic Minimus 7 is a great option if you have a reciever or amp. They're pretty common second hand, and sound shockingly good for something so tiny.

I'm sorry, I don't want triggered you but you need a sub with you RB-61. Not for more bass but for the expansion: <35hz

Do you use em on a desk? How narrow is the sweet spot on them? I had a bunch of bookshelves on my desk before and find some to be so narrow I can't even bob my head around to music.

One thing I like a lot about speakers is that you can actually feel the the sound through your whole body, rather than just in your ears/head.
Although, with headphones you can use a bass shaker to help with this.
>>
>>53886724
>Bass shaker
all you are feeling is bass beyond the human ear. You are totally missing mid-bass, which gives you that chest crushing punch
>>
>>53886831
Not quite, I have my crossover set to 35 hertz so it gets a tiny bit of audible range.

Anyway that's why I said help with this, not alleviate this.

Plus, nothing stopping you from using a bass shaker with speakers for extra fun.
>>
>>53886607
Something that doesn't cost both my arms?
>>
I use audioengine a5+ for speakers and s8 for subwoofer. Bit pricey but nice sound and good bass, although you need some space between you and your speakers for it to come together nicely, might be my rooms shitty acoustics though.
>>
>>53886984
EVE SC205 and what ever their sub is called
>>
get a pair of JBL prs15's, and a QSC rmx4050HD, i recommend a EQ for tuning and poles for the speakers.

you will NOT be dissapointed.
>>
>>53887032
Most speakers seem to sound best when you have some distance away from them.
>>
>>53886831

they sell actual kinetic bass shakers that you can attach to floors and it just makes the room vibrate at frequencies under 40.
