/g/entoomen, how do fansubbers encode their web rips?
TV rips are encoded from transport streams, are web rips re-encoded crunchyroll rips?
Horriblesubs takes raws and puts the mp4 and their sub files in an mkv wrapper.
Usually the raws are TV rips.
I don't know how they encode web rips, but almost no anime is web-only; even OVAs are given physical and downloadable releases
I thought horriblesubs used crunchyroll/funimation as their video source.
Recently a lot of fansubbers aren't using TV raws are their video source for current anime, question is what is their video source and how are they encoding it?
Yes, if there aren't any good quality channels airing the show (or nobody capped it) the video is sourced from CR often but also sometimes funi (more often in the near future since they're stopping the fucking hardsubbing) or whatever other site has the best quality. Usually the encode uses a few filters to try to clean things up like banding and other compression artifacts or the hardsubs in funi's case.
HorribleSubs is just a straight rip from CR/funimation, maybe with the styles changed a little. They don't actually do subbing/encoding and probably aren't worth mentioning in this discussion.

I use Handbrake for encoding anime movies
