What does "unlimited lte" really mean /g/?
Sprint and t-mobile both offer unlimited lte plans but does it really mean "unlimited"?
Is there a point where they can shut you down or throttle you hard to 2G speeds?
If so what is that point, 20GB, 50GB, 100GB, 500GB, 2TB?
I ask this because I almost reached 200GB of data usage on my metropcs phone last month. I'm afraid that I'll suddenly just lose my service or something.

This applies to all "unlimited LTE data" plan. The carrier will set a "high-speed" cap (eg. 20GB). After you reached the cap, the carrier will throttle your data to 2G/GPRS speed.

That's not how it works you retard. Moat carriers who offer unlimited high speed lte plans have a soft data cap (~20-30GB) when reached will slow your lte to 2-4 Mbps when the network is under heavy load. When the load goes away your speeds go back to normal.
What OP is asking is if you can download something like a TB of porn each month and not get in trouble.

Even so, they have sold a customer "unlimited high speed" data so if they shut off your service they could be sued for lying.
Actually carriers rarely do much (even for p2p users) except throttle lte speeds a little (see soft data cap) but only to around 2-4 Mbps, not 2G speeds. People are legally allowed to use an "unlimited high speed" data plan to download all the TB of porn that they want.
In reality most people won't torrent/stream video that much so carriers usually see 30-120GB of data usage for unlimited high speed data subscribers so carriers don't really have to worry about people downloading TB of data off their network.
Finally kicking off data heavy users completely off the network (ie not just throttling them is also bad for business. They'll lose a customer which might try to sue them which would give the carrier a bad rep and encourage their customers to leave (see at&t throttling unlimited high speed data subscribers fiasco).

I have boost mobile and regularly use 80-100GB of data each month. I've been doing this for about 6 months now. I think this is a good limit people should aim for on "unlimited lte" plans. You could probably go pasts this, maybe even past 300GB but I wouldn't risk it.

Companies really shouldn't be selling "unlimited" data plans at all. They should instead give fairly high data caps that nearly 100% of users will most likely never reach (ie 300GB for mobile data, 1TB for home internet).

I would rather have it fake unlimited. If companies start selling home internet with a high data cap then it sets a precedent of even HAVING data caps. Then the companies will get lower and lower caps.

Back in December 2013- February 2014 I found a loophole on tmobiles network that allowed me to use 500GB+ of data. All you would do is be on LTE, move the phone to a spot where it switches to 3G, turn on hotspot, and move to an area where the phone gets LTE. Open a terminal and constantly ping a website to keep the phone on LTE and it was all good but sadly it doesn't work anymore...
