Python Editor
What do you use?
IDLE is the only fucking piece of shit you’ll ever need.
Pycharm, sublime, or vim. Depends where I'm at and what I'm doing.
>tfw notepad++ isn't embarrassingly unpopular
but I just do exercises in programming books. I have no idea how people use programming in the real world.

"Pythonists" are sad.
>>53865294
happy to read this
>be me

>works perfect, never failed me.
people actually use python?
I use Geany, but I might learn vim hmmmmmm
Using vim, but I don't know how to exit. Might look into Sublime.
EDIT: Sublime is proprietary, hmmm, I'll stick with vim.
I love PyCharm. I developed in IDLE for the longest time but PyCharm's code interpretation and correction comes in handy, especially for larger projects.
Was using Emacs, wanted to paste some link from the internet, didn't know the key binding so I just tried some random things. Vim started accidentally and I've been stuck in it for a while now, someone care to help out?
>>53865532
You and me both familia.
gedit
I'm going to move away from Ubuntu, throw myself into the deep and install Arch.
I wanted to edit the ISO because it didn't boot, so I opened the file with Atom. It's been stuck for a couple of hours now, is it safe to uninstall Atom?
IDLE has been idle for a while now. Is this a joke?
>>53865892
>wants to install arch
>can't even find the right thread to ask a question in
you are doomed, I suggest installing windows 10 instead
Have been installing Gentoo for a while now, I found a workaround to make the package manager not crash, and wrote a script that's hooked on the emerger in python.
Only thing vim is giving dependency conflicts, so I'm sticking to nano.
>>53865944
But isn't Arch the Python of operating systems?

I think analogies can very much contribute, in a positive sense, to actual discussions. What is your point?
>>53866044

I think the metaphor "comparing apples to oranges" applies m8

At least they're both fruits.

nano when ssh-ing into the cluster
emacs when running interactive session via NX

Even notepad is better.
I found Pycharm to be quite good, although it's a little too anal about enforcing a specific stlye
>>53865145
Vim
>>53865712
Fuck you
Linux editor question
>Any other editor can do what sublime can do:
- open system file
- edit it
- elevate to root on save attempt
- save it
no vim or emacs please, I have enough on my plate to learn already
>>53866360
It's an odd thing to do in the first place.
Either you're programming in which case all files are owned by the user, or you're modifying system files in which case it's the most convenient to be in a shell, either a root shell or using sudo.
>>53865532
isn't notepad++ just the shitty option windows users have when they are too stupid to compile kate and too lazy to learn vim?
>>53866106
Who cares when it looks fabulous anon.

python is used in all sorts of high-level software engineer jobs. so yes
>>53866106
if you don't care about it being proprietary, then why does it matter if people hate it?
just use what works for you. getting caught up in the opinions of a bunch of faggots is toxic.
>>53865712
of course they do. how can you be so out of touch as to ask this question?
i'm seriously asking. can you explain how clueless you are in some way that makes excusable?
>>53866835
I dont even needed it to program, it opens pretty much any text-based file in existence. Great for .eu4, .ck2, .efi, and .fhx extensions.
Geany
>>53866094
Is this the /spoiler equivalent of /g/?
>>53866091
If you spend more time learning your editor than doing work, than it's shit. Sublime may be a meme, but its fucking good at being both obvious enough to get work done fast, and powerful enough without being cumbersome.

Emacs obviously. Sublime borrowed it from Emacs.
Pycharm hands down.

or
PyCharm
I use emacs for everything. Why would you want to use an editor that only works for one language? I work on projects that have both C and python. You can find plugins for emacs that do python autocompletion. There's really no advantage in using a big dumb IDE where all the features are hidden in menus and everything has to be manually configured instead of using a configuration file.
>>53874030
Why would I have GTK?
notepad++ is win32.
>>53874202

are you taking the piss
>>53865145
I use python tools for visual studio, which I think is built in by default on VS2015. This + vsVim = best of all worlds.
This even works for linux dev thanks to remote debugging support, just connect connect python tools to your virtualbox Ethernet adapter, can you can edit files in your VM right from VS.
>>53865145
Visual Studio Code.
I'm not an autist about bloat, it's more open than Sublime Text despite being from Microsoft and does way more out-of-the-package than most code editors.
