What is the current desktop environment you are using? I am using GNOME, tried KDE but it is really cluttered and slow, not appealing either,
xfce on mint
CDE on OpenBSD
KDE
Nova
LXQt
kde 5
lxde
Manjaro kde
xfce on arch
KDE because it's clean and fast.

I ran tests on some virtual machines, cinnamon used about 150mb of ram while KDE plasma used about 170mb of ram. Anyone have any other tests?

Does anyone know the name of the DE that CentOS uses? I know it's gnome but I don't know if it has a specific name. I didn't realize that I had accidentally created my Centos VM with 768mb of ram on a shitty laptop, and it ran perfectly.

How did you go about getting the latest one?

I installed archlinux with kde desktop environment.
I used architect linux installer to keep it easy.
But you can also try the kde pre-release of manjaro.
