So I'm sick of wincuck and I've been having problems with Microsoft's shit tier products. I want to install a new OS, and was wondering if you guys have any suggestions.
Here's some info:
Laptop:
> Dell inspirion
> i7
> 12 gb ram
> 1 tb
> some average graphics card
Purposes:
> programmer (mostly C and python)
> student
> I just want it to look decent and function well without having to update/fix it constantly
> customization would be nice though
Side notes:
> I'm fairly new to linux systems
> tried Mint, Ubuntu, and Arch
> Arch was nice bc u can avoid bloat, but the amount of time required to keep things up to date is a little too much.

OpenSuse is a proud example of German engineering. And it just werks.
use ubuntu and switch DE's or disable the amazon spyglass/search thing
This is the easiest approach
I'm fantasizing over creating my own OS with my friends, starting with the bootloader, kernel, then simple shell shizzle.
Bootloader motivation:
mikeos.sourceforge.net/write-your-own-os.html

literally bloat: the distro
OP here, a friend suggested deviant stable.
Any opinions on that?

You will really like Cinnamon
So Fedora with cinnamon.
Otherwise ubuntu MATE. Vanilla ubuntu is also fine

It is named cinnamon because using it makes you feel like you took the cinnamon challenge.
Mate is shit. He has good specs, not some shitty HP from 2006.

Okay, then do you have any suggestions?

Maybe if you are functionally retarded.
>>53850518
Pretty sure you are the one who's retarded here but I won't judge
>>53850401
KDE is actually pretty damn easy. I tried out qubes a few months ago and it was fine
>>53850528
Sorry. I just fail to comprehend what would be hard about KDE.
