I did the exact same thing. I did it just before the New Year when the sales were, I figured I was gonna buy my first gaming computer and play every game.
Yeah it lasted three weeks and I was having issues with my GPU that I was too lazy to deal with and I really don't like Windows so I just went back to Linux.

3,87 GiB RAM here. Currently using 2,2 GiB on Debian GNU+Linux. Have hade this PC since 2008. Had a friend pick parts, as he had made a bunch of computers before. He picked a gaming graphics card. :-( Have not gamed with it, it just chugs all the watts. Need to build a new PC soon, but 8 GiB of RAM is cheaper than 4+4. One site offered 8+8 for the same price as 8 GiB. #OHFUCKWAHATAMIGOINGTOUSEALLTHOSERAMFOREZ!?
