The main thing you have to understand about the scene is that they're in competition with each other to be the first one to release something. If you want to watch a show or movie as close as possible to airing then scene releases are the way to go. If you like the show so much that you want to archive it you wait for DVD/Blu-ray releases then see which group does the best remux/encode.

It's not just TV. There are a ton of HD movies on HDB that aren't on AHD. And HDB even has some TV encodes that aren't on BTN. For example, the DON release of Mad Men Season 4 is still only on HDB.
I love AHD and it's one of the first trackers I started out with but as of right now, AHD is nowhere near the level of HDB. I think it can eventually get there in maybe 4-5 years but HDB is the undisputed king when it comes to HD content.
