Not if you hit the app goldmine
>>
>>53837485
Can someone explain how to actually make money with apps?
>>
>>53837972
get lucky
hit the right audience at the right time
get lucky

I say "get lucky" twice because the market is absolutely flooded. but the "app goldmine" is mostly getting lucky and gaining momentum before others do

You can make small money by finding a niche. I dunno what the niche is, you gotta find that. I work with friends on video game random class generators which make like $60/mo on the website and $30/mo on the app. App has about 3000 active installs right now, not sure about the site
>>
I make money in my sleep, that's real
You awake and can't even get a bill
>>
>>53837972
It's tough. I have a $3 app (with free trial) that sells a copy every other day or so. That's about $30 a month, after Store fees are taken out. $20 after taxes, since this is just a hobby of mine and my real programming job puts me in a nasty bracket. I definitely shouldn't quit my day job. As a one-man app developer, making anything is a lot of work! And nobody wants to pay for an app these days.

Perhaps ads are better for generating revenue, but I probably need to A/B test to figure that outt. Back when my app was freeware, it got 7x as many downloads per day.

Why the fuck would you want to be a NEET?
>>
>>53839113
there are a number of very good reasons related to the practicality of me getting and keeping a job, but there's also inertia (not had a job, failure of uni becoming apparent and abandoning work in turn.) making it a preferable option to coast into.

live as i've always lived.

(i also don't need a high income as there aren't many things that i want)
>>

if I could go NEET style, fully supported in life, I'd use it to start a business with friends without worrying about actual profit. Would be great, all the possibility of success and no risk of failure

I work as a translator and I'm studying translation at the moment. It's quite enjoyable, actually, although the deadlines can be a bitch sometimes. Right now I'm working on a fantasy novel translation and when I told my employer that I'd have to move the deadline back two months, he told me "no problem, better later and have you healthy than sooner and having to pay for a shrink!"

My boss is awesome.

Guys, sorry to make this post, I know it's annoying but I have to ask you something.

I was NEETing for a long time and sustaining myself with stuff like affiliate marketing... most tech stuff I did was creating landing pages in HTML/CSS

Now I have a real job but I hate it and want to go back to being a semi-NEET, ie. I want to work from home

What should I focus on to get freelance gigs that pay OK?

I'm mostly interested in stuff like web scraping, but I could do anything... my knowledge of programming is basic right now

Basically I'm looking to find a niche field that is not super hard to learn but has a decent amount of freelance jobs available ?

Should I learn Ruby/Rails ?

Just give me some ideas anons

I already gave up on the idea of having a career or anything decent in this life, I just want to find a comfy way to make enough money to sustain myself

I live in a cheap country so $1000 a month would be more than enough

No dev, translator/interpreter. Seriously, people pay me 200$ just to stand there and say what someone else says.

I always thought programming was the ultimate Jew of work (you write something for someone so that they don't have to do all the work themselves), but interpreting is the best.

>Pay: 200$/day minimum, I can tack on some other stuff that gets me more money (topic of discussion, travel expenses, my fucking time because I can't do other stuff while I'm on an interpretation job)
>If the thing is cancelled within 24/48 hours, I get about 70 % of the pay and get to stay home because I had to cancel all other interpretation jobs that day
>If I work into a B language (not my mother tongue), I can charge extra because that shit is more "difficult"
>If I work SIMULTANEOUS interpretation, that shit is paid like crazy. Usually you need extra equipment, but you borrow that for 100$ and then you get paid 500$. AND YOU CHARGE THEM FOR THE EQUIPMENT TOO, SO YOU KEEP 500$!

It's the kike job and our work ethic is that of prostitutes: We pay you money, you do what we want. But it's so well-paid, that I can't think of anything better.
>>
>>53843232
>>53837972 here. Is there a way to project revenue from ads? I have usage data; about 15K "page views" per week. I think it's safe to assume it'll grow to maybe 65K "page views" per week if I make it free again.

Don't know, but his friends were always like "Dude are you really sure you're ok with that?" and he always said he didn't care and that it was just a job. She also adored him apparently.
>>
>>53843158
If you're a beta cuckboy and you let your boss push you around, then you'll get taken advantage of no matter what job you take.

If you learn how to enforce your boundaries and say no to unreasonable demands, then you'll be fine.

Unfortunately most software developers are betas, so there's a cultural expectation in the industry that developers will put up with stupid and unreasonable demands.

I work for a temporary jobs agency, and I've been working on greenhouses for 3.5 years in England (first job I got when I got here from Portugal). It wasn't that bad and the minimum wage even went higher to 7.20£/h (so I got a bit over 350£/week), but this year they changed the whole fucking system and we set down pots instead of boxes, so it's killing by back to the point I have to apply cream every day.

I've put my mind on learning Python to learn the basics of programming and then I'll go ahead with Java. I just want enough money to be able to pay the bills and food, since the house back in Portugal is already been paid off.

Sorry for the blogpost, but it's somewhat related to the OPs subject and I just wanted to get this out.

See, that's what's wrong with the world. If a guy can't provide for his family, he shouldn't have one to start with. That's my biggest fear, not cancer, not getting my legs blown off, my two big fears are
>not being able to fuck my GF
>not being able to provide for her

I'm the tranlsatorfag from here, btw.
>>
>>53844367
He probably wasn't getting minimum wage.
What people from those countries usually do is they work for some years and buy houses back in their countries and use a company to rent them.
So, they're getting money from working in the greenhouses and they recieve passive income from the rented houses.
This is possible due to the exchange rate. In Poland, for example, the £ is 5x worth their money. That's why a lot of polish come and do the season (5/6 months) and then come back to Poland and live like kings and queens the rest of the year.

Guys you have to learn Ruby/Rails to get great freelance bux
>>
>>53844653
You actually don't have to live here, just buy the houses and rent them out...
>>53844621
That's a really fucked up thing to have happen to you, but I was thinking more like the 20 y.o. hipster nu-male and stuff like that.

Come to think of it, my dad lost his job on his birthday. Middle-aged, he just said "FUCK IT" and took almost a year off. I didn't notice, he had so much money saved up he could afford everything for all that time like normally.
>>
>>53844714
>You actually don't have to live here, just buy the houses and rent them out...
Is it that easy? I thought I needed to have an address in there and oher shit like that for verification.
But again, the money probably doesn't have any value when converted to Euros.
>>
>>53844743
>>53844743
It's a good way to get a rent-worth of money.

It's approximately CZK6000 if you're a good guy, but CZK10000 isn't unheard of, just depends on what you buy.

Divide that number by 25 and you get your income in Euros. I don't think you need an address here, developers are building houses left and right and Euros to them are like gold.
>>
>>53844793
Well, I would need to rent at least 4 at CZK6000. Would be enough to pay for expenses and I'd get the rest of the money transfered.
I guess I'll look into this. Thank you.
>>
>>53843336
>think of some gimmicky game
>the characters you play as are emojis
>?????????
>PROFIT
>>
>>53844853
Do, it's a really good way. Although the prices of the houses are quite expensive, you can just buy one for a certain amount per month, then you rent it as fast as possible, charge the person you rent it to your monthly payment plus some extra. That way you pay off your debt and get some money from the person you're renting the flat/house/whatevs to. After you pay your last payment and the flat is yours, you can just turn down the payments a little bit, so that the tenant is thankful and the flat is more affordable, and you get all of the money! Minus tax, probably.
>>
>>53844853
Oh and if you do, hit me up here (I'll probably be here), and you can rent me a flat for cheap :^)
>>
>>53844483
Even self-tutoring stops you being NEET? I'm doing online courses I guess. Not the flashy YouTube-tier ones though, I'm doing the open courses set up by Harvard and MIT. Do you think it's worth $60-$90 dollars for a certificate from these courses? To be honest, it'd be nice to have something for my CV.
>>
>>53845052
Just do one-off jobs.
>Hi, do you need this done? I can do it quite cheaply
>Sure, why not
>do job
>Dude, you're really cheap, thanks.
>They don't contact you again
>Do 10 of these expendable contracts
>suddenly your CV is flourishing with all sorts of work

I once did a translation of a manual for a game company. They paid me by saying: "Pick a game in this price range". Picked one, never heard from them again. But it's in my CV and I think that now they'd be more impressed than when I was 17.

What can/can't I do on Linux considering I've only ever used Windows? I don't care about games, but can I still do normie stuff like watch Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime, use iTunes, watch my Chinese cartoons using VLC?
