desu, when I installed 7 and couldn't get my graphics drivers to allow me to swap between integrated and discrete as it should have (and was the entire fucking point of this model), I reinstalled 7, and then it worked after going through Windows Updates again, since my graphics drivers were from Windows Updates. perhaps they got screwed-up between windows updates arbitrarily reverting themselves
desu, I don't see why brightness would be correlated to graphics drivers, but worst case scenario you could format and reinstall, and hope things work out the second time around. but I would like to affirm that this is absolutely worst case scenario shit cause this in no way identifies and fixes the problem and the problem alone, but is just throwing everything away and doing it over and hoping for no mistakes. plus, windows updates requires so much time

My system locked up a couple of times while displaying graphic glitches in my monitor, when I attempted to turn it off using the power button, I felt a static discharge either originating from the metal case or my finger.
is it possible for components to act like this due to an incorrect component assembly within the case? or was it just a coincidence and my body had some extra electricity?
I inspected the interior of my case lightly and it doesn't seem to be any misplaced components, the only thing I can think of is the fact that the motherboard is sitting directly on the metal support thingies where motherboards are screwed on.

i have the time and knowledge, i want to make something cool.
I have 6 CD's from Geek Squad. These CD's have files from my families old desktop from 2008-9 that GeekSquad copied onto. I'm not concerned about documents, music ect, just the pictures. Lots of memories I really want saved. I've copied each disk onto my PC via three methods, Dropbox copying the images into my account, drag and drop the files onto my desktop, and CD Recovery Toolbox Free. No solution fixes the images with errors, but I figured it was good to have many backups.
My stupid question is, can I use a software/method to recover these images? I don't think I have the hard drive, and even if I find it, it will cost a lot of cash. I have absolutely no issue saving up and spending 2 grand or more for these images, but if I can do it for free or low cost, I'll do it.

I use this addon for Firefox to fetch those links:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/
I have the icon added to my browser UI, right, and whenever a video or audio is playing, it lights-up. I then click on it, and it shows me a list of all media on the page. then you just click the "+" sign to expand the options for the one you want, and click "copy URL".
using this you can watch streams in your media player of choice. unless it's twitch, in which case they actively cockblock you from that somehow, so you need this whole "livestreamer" bullshit to do the same thing. but livestreamer is good shit

I'm trying to apply deep neural nets to decensoring hentai. I currently have 30000+ images for training data. The plan is to manually censor all 30000+ images, and the censorship method is complete censorship (i.e. large black rectangles) and not mosaic censorship. These censored images will be used as input, and the original uncensored images will be compared against the output. I'd like some advice going forward:
1. Are there performance issues if I parse each image while training/testing? Should I convert them to a csv file or stick them in a database?
2. What legal ramifications are there if my training data consists of copyrighted images?
3. What's a good machine library to use for this? Most of my machine learning experience used WEKA and ABAGAIL, but I want to move to better performing libraries.
4. Are there other architectures better suited for this problem? Is it a good idea to formulate the problem as an image inpainting one? Afaik, image inpainting algorithms fall into two categories: diffusion based methods and sparse representations using dictionaries. Both methods seem to have problems inpainting the center of large censored regions. Something similar to a DCGAN used to make this picture could work.
Any other suggestions are welcome.

Can I delete installer files once I've installed a program? eg the files you use to create an iso
>>53820447
Oh god thank you I found it. You have to click the tiny gear symbol.
So I fucked up and upgraded to windows 10, if I install windows normally (not a fresh install) will my files carry over or do I have to back it up?
OS is on C drive everything else is on E.
>>53820506
so you have windows 10 now and want to install what over it?
If you don't like it there should be a button to revert the installation back to what it was in the settings somewhere.
>>53820521

so I went on
>http://www.howtogeek.com/220723/how-to-uninstall-windows-10-and-downgrade-to-windows-7-or-8.1/
>To access this, open the Start menu and select Settings. Click the “Update & security” icon and select “Recovery.” You should see a “Go back to Windows 7” or “Go back to Windows 8.1” option. Click the Get started button to get rid of your Windows 10 install and restore your previous Windows
but when I go to the recovery tab it says "RESET THIS PC" not "Go back to Windows 7"
>>53820535
you can't install 7 over 10 like that, so you have to do a fresh installation.
All files on C will be gone then if you install over it.
E will not be touched if you don't tinker with it in the partition settings during installation.
>>53820521
ahhh you have to do it within a month
>>53820559
is it worth using dban on my C then installing 7 afterward?

>>53820571
only if you really want all files on C to be completely unrecoverable.
generally no unless you want to sell the disk or give it to someone else.

Not tech-savvy but logically-speaking if you're converting to FLAC wouldn't it mean the data was not saved losslessly, so converting lossy data to a lossless format would not add anything to the data?
I would think such a thing would be equivalent to taking an image saved as a jpeg in mspaint, copying it, pasting it to MSPaint, then manually resaving as a .png. it appears to me such a thing would only inflate the filesize with no conceivable practical gain.

Also, I remember Logical Increments listing off what performance to expect from each tier. This was over the last Summer I remember this. >>53822117
"sectors", not sure.
CD-RWs are pretty crappy anyway if i remember correctly

There's a number of ways to define "diminishing returns" I think the most objective measure is Pissmark's 'best value' or FPS per dollar. Most like to have better than that.

Should I be fine getting 4k resolution with 60fps, or is there some reason why a tv wouldn't be able to do this? I'm using a low-end €400 tv.

This is what i'm not sure about. In terms of files degrading, the more you copy an mp3 the worse the quality gets yet as far as I know flac/wav remains the same.
Converting to flac would keep the mp3 quality just in a larger container which is ok with copying.
At least that's the assumption I was working under.

Pay special attention to the build log as there's important information on the coloured wires. It says controller but there's information about most dreamcast peripherals in there.
You may have some luck though since its a keyboard you're trying to connect, you might be able to get away with just connecting the appropriately coloured wires to the proper usb outputs and plugging in. Keyboards have been standardized for so long that I doubt Sega went through the trouble of making special firmware for it or it needing special drivers. If it doesn't work you can reconnect the wires how they were before and get yourself an adapter.

Windows = bloat + pricing + convenience
Linux = instability + convenience
Windows' convenience: games, software
Linux's convenience: server, software
They're both shit and great in different ways. I use both for different things. You can't lie and say that the stripped down nature of a Linux doorstep distro isn't a great trait, even the more bloated distributions are far less superfluous than Windows 10.
I use both for different things. There's no great "main" OS. Not until Windows keep making everything mediocre and slapping a price tag on it.

Also, I'm learning coding from Codeacademy.com.
Are there any other things I should do that would help me learn?
Is it ever acceptable for an HDD in use to consistently have read speeds this low?
for context all I had running as I ran these tests were Windows Updates and qbittorrent.
at the end of the last thread I asked if my HDD was dying, and everyone said it was, and is to be replaced, but I'd planned on finishing installing Windows Updates before I ran these tests, in case Windows Updates' running was skewing the results. But these results are so abysmal while Windows Updates is running that if they aren't standard, I don't want to fuck with the HDD anymore, and just want to save the proof of its being poor, and format it to prepare for replacement. it took like for hours to run dban on my 160GB HDD, so I would think a 1TB one would logically just take 6.25 times as long according to basic math. don't wanna be arsed with wasting time updating Windows on a definitively faulty HDD.
ofc https://s.4cdn.org/css/ is 403 and I'd like to know if the old css from yesterday (Google look) is still available, because I fucked up to save it (If you wish to know why for instance because you hated it, then the answer is for teh lulz)... Here's what my cache entry looks like for it (pic related).
I went to sleep, now it's gone, didn't even restart FF I think... Dayum.
Can somebody please show me the old link or a backup of his file? Like post it?
If you have Firefox go to about:cache and search for "md2016." in the disk and memory files. Can you still open it as it's still cached? FF flushed the file already (see how it says 0 bytes in my screenshot).
>>53827516
Okay wait a second, now I could think further (I'm stupid robo)
https://s.4cdn.org/css/md2016.651.css still is available, sumhow I forgot to visit that URL

Real big fucking problem /sqt/,
I got a new HDD and migrated my data there. I unplug the sata cables to mount it properly and when I plug it back in it says the drive is not formatted. Thankfully I still had the data on the other HDD, but why the fuck would this happen? I disconnected another HDD to make way for the new one. I bought it to replace the one I'm transferring data from so I'll eventually plug the other one in. I CANNOT lose the data on the other one, the one that is currently unplugged. How would I guarantee that Windows doesn't see it as an unformatted disk and corrupt my shit like I'm assuming happened on the new HDD?

I'm sure this is a stupid ass question, but I have a clean install of Windows (well not clean, it had the bloatware on it that I had to go through removing) and I'd prefer if there was a way to download a torrent/folder that had all the main applications I would want to install rather than having to go download them individually.
Anyone have any ideas? Like maybe a torrent on TPB or something that contains a folder with Office, Utorrent, chrome, an antivirus, etc?

For the past few months, whenever I turn my computer on, the monitor, mouse, and keyboard won't turn on. Last time it took well over 25 tries before it finally worked, and this time it won't work no matter how many times I try. Is there anything I can do about this?
Google is saying it's probably the motherboard, a ram stick being out of place (that wasn't the case), or the gpu. The motherboard seems most likely. Is there anything I can do short of buying a new computer? Please help.
>>53827796
>Anyone have any ideas? Like maybe a torrent on TPB or something that contains a folder with Office, Utorrent, chrome, an antivirus, etc?
the thing with that is, though, that unless you're using pirated software- in which case you likely just sit on a cracked, older version indefinitely- programs update all the time. So for instance you may create such a torrent that includes, like, CCleaner, irfanview, mbam, KPC, foobar, gimp, winrar, and Firefox...
but then half a year later EVERYTHING in the torrent will be outdated and possibly even vulnerable, so no one would go for the torrent, since updating programs requires requires manually downloading a .exe file. so you would be back to step one with every program.
unless it's like MyDefrag, which got discontinued October of last yr, and hasn't had an update since 2011, but is still written as being the best

What would be the dangers of having a heavily-oversized amplifier running undersized speakers?
I know the most important rule is "Undersize your speakers slightly because clipping kills the speaker", but at what point does oversizing become dangerous?

No, I installed it straight. it's my main and only hard drive. but, I guess I should just finish installing Windows Updates and run the HD Tune Pro tests later for an accurate reflection of HD performance in general use...
>>53828273
>This is My WD Blue, its damaged but doesnt drop like that.
>Try to stop windows updates and qbittorrent for a while to test your HDD.
Yeah, sorry. I'm sorry. I don't know why I bothered to do these tests again when Windows Updates is running. they're gonnsa be running for seemingly at least another 12 hours, and I've done nothing but have them run since I got the laptop, so I guess I got impatient.
I'll just finishing installing Windows Updates then do the tests after the fact.

You know windows updates dont are important right?
Anyway SMART doesnt show anything wrong with the HDD, spin up time its not being reported correctly but not a problem.
It could be damaged, but till you are done with updates we wont be able to tell, a HDD its not supposed to be that slow, it could give you system inestability, windows crashing, freezing, etc.

Is there something I can use to copy files that transfer it at low speeds? I'm planning to transfer about 500gb of data to a new disk and I don't want to risk fucking it up. A 30mb/s write should be a comfortable experience for the HDD. Is there such a program?
>>53828439
>You know windows updates dont are important right?
yeah, someone said that last thread... but, I install everything, anyway, except the telemetry updates. it's just standard for me to do so. I dunno. I know it's a waste of time to get every single update, but I guess I'm doing it irrationally just to do so. Sorry about that. but I'm almost done, now, anyway.
>Anyway SMART doesnt show anything wrong with the HDD, spin up time its not being reported correctly but not a problem.
>It could be damaged, but till you are done with updates we wont be able to tell, a HDD its not supposed to be that slow, it could give you system inestability, windows crashing, freezing, etc.
yeah, sorry. I'm really just wasting everyone's time by doing these test while Windows Updates is running. I dunno why I thought this was a good idea. it'll take a long time for them to even finish. pic related. I have this timer so I can qq to myself about how long this is taking. there were more, even, but the computer crashed mid-update so I guess it doesn't count them.

>Are you on SATA 2 or 3? Your motherboard looks outdated af.
It's a Thinkpad W500, lol. so it's 6 yrs old. It's pretty young for a Thinkpad, though.
but, yeah... but, actually, I apparently wouldn't even be asked to ship the HDD back until at least Monday, cause it's currently the weekend, so I have today and tomorrow to use the HDD as I wish. So even if Windows Updates takes the rest of today to install + configure on restart, I can run the HD Tune Pro test in a minute (or, run several to view the test's consistency, as I will), then run DBAN on the HDD to wipe it if I determine it's unusable. and it'd only be 12:00 AM on Monday. so, I have time. I can wait for Windows Updates to finish.
but, yeah. the time it takes to update is insane. I had no idea my timer program you see in that screenshot resets at 24 hours until I woke up to find it'd reset itself.
sorry for the late reply... Windows Updates is a resource hog and is slowing my PC down hella, and my internet decided to go down for a bit there...
and then Firefox decided to crash, presumably due to low ram. Murphy's law in action.

>>53828636
by the way, sorry, I don't know the difference bwteen SATA 2 or 3, or what SATA is or means at all.
but actually, I looked at the "packing slip" that came with the box the HDD was shipped in, and it says "HGST Travelstar 1TB SATA3 7200rpm 32mb Cache 2.5in Internal Hard Disk Drive OEM". so it seems, SATA 3.
>>53828794
you could try to
[update-grub]
in case there just isn't any GRUB, maybe that's the problem?
>>53828984
With a HDD its irrelevant.
Thinkpad W5000 uses a Penryn CPU so you are limited to SATA 2.
SATA 2 = 3Gb/s = 300MB/s.
SATA 3= 6Gb/s = 500MB/s.
Average HDD Speed= 100MB/s.
>>53828986
I tried that and update-grub2
>>53829075
yeah. that sucks. but it was the cheapest 7200RPM 1TB laptop HDD I saw on amazon, so its being bottlenecked by my laptop is fine, for me.
>>53829108
You dont are being bottlenecked by it, no HDD is that fast to be bottlenecked by SATA.
SSDs on the other hand, will be bottlenecked by SATA2.
HDDs arent that fast to be affected by it.
>>53829133
Oh, I see. thank you. That's useful to know.
But, for the record, I mean no disrespect, but when you say:
>You dont are being bottlenecked by it
and earlier when you said:
>windows updates dont are important
the grammatically-correct way to word your first excerpt is:
>You are not being bottlenecked by it
and the grammatically-correct way to word your second excerpt is:
>windows updates are not important
also, the phrase "are not" can be contracted to "aren't". I only never pointed this out earlier in case your writing in that way was accidental. Cheers. but, I'm sorry for not being able betray the logic behind why what I said is gramatically-correct, or otherwise. I never understood grammar really, either, until someone explained a "run-on sentence" to me, after which I started trying to speak according to what feels correct. I can't reduce grammar to a science and propose my thesis on it is so emotion-based, for me... but, thank you, again.

So I got this shitty tablet from my ISP/TVP with a contract for basically free
When I wanted to know more about it model and shit they said it was like made custom for them so no model and shit
Well there's a warranty for a year now so I won't root it or install custom ROMs and all that, but I have never done it anyway so I don't care about that at the moment, but is there anything else I can do to un-shit it ? It doesn't really have any bloatware from first sight, but possibly custom skin or something, I can see ISP name when the tablet boots up. It runs 4.2 I think, that's KitKat, which is fairly decent I guess, has some QuadCore-A33 CPU, which what I know about it, is some chinkshit 4$ CPU
So far I'm just going to install Nova Launcher, any more recommendations that I could do to make it any better without voiding warranty ? My mom is going to use it
>>53829308
it's ok. English is my first and only language, so I can't sympathize with you, but I try to understand that others may not've been surrounded by English and only English their entire lives, so correct grammar in English may not come naturally to them.
but, even without considering the above, I see no reason for that to matter. I don't judge, but I think everyone strives to be grammatically-correct on some level, so I try to help them, unless it's clear they've achieved the level of grammatical correctness they want, and have delved into informality, instead. but in any case, it's no big deal.
>>53827956
It's advisable to do that always, even if it costs you more money.
>>53829470
Not him, but will you please elaborate? Cost more money how?
Is there something I can use to copy files that transfer it at low speeds? I'm planning to transfer about 500gb of data to a new disk and I don't want to risk fucking it up. A 30mb/s write should be a comfortable experience for the HDD. Is there such a program?
>>53828216
None, it's how it should be all the time, the other way around the speakers would break (yes, it's really like that, HiFi equip electrical logic is weird and looks illogical at first).
>>53828558
That's a feature I wish to see in Operating Systems, maybe I will write something like that soon (I need Cocaine). Being able to select the (percentage) amount of resources for a process/programm. E.g. a slider for network traffic (to prevent clogging up the network), a slider for CPU cycles (to prevent clogging up the CPU - see VM software to see what I mean).
It would sorta look like the volume manager in Windows, each app has its own slider.
As far as I know, nothing is doable at the current moment, including your problem.
>>53829500
Well if you buy at multiple sites, it's less likely that a single person fucks up your whole plan.
This logic is trying to prevent all the flaws Murphys law can arise.
It's decades of experience with building computers from me, it's just better to have multiple suppliers of anything you buy in life.
