This thread was created to prevent anons from spamming new threads, for technology questions they have.
If you are that person, post your simple/small/stupid questions here

Don't bump. This is a slow board, and will continue to be. Wait for an answer or google it.

If you had your own proxy servers, or even if you didn't, is it possible to put viruses/worms/encryptions/whatever between them so that when someone suspects something's fishy and tries to go through them to reach you to identify you and find out where you are gets meeted by them (the viruses, encryptions, etc.)??

Unless you're using vsync or have a capped framerate then no. Usually your GPU is rendering as many frame as it can regardless of your refresh rate.

Is there any specific reason ghostery blocks some website's built-in font rendering since a couple days now? I deactived it now anyways because it was severely screwing up yt for me and replaced it with a combination of privacybadger and ublock

Also i used the following filter list alongside the standard one:

Adblock Warning Removal List
Anti-Adblock Killer | Reek?
EasyList
Peter Lowe’s Ad server list?
EasyPrivacy?
Fanboy’s Enhanced Tracking List?
Malware Domain List?

im trying to run firefox within my home directory. i use the precompiled and tarballed releases you can get from their ftp. i run it and get "couldnt load xpcom". ive had this issue before, and its xulrunner not being installed or so. so i grab the precompiled xulrunner off their ftp as well that matches with the firefox version i downloaded. i figured i could set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to point to the xulrunner directory while trying to run firefox. this doesnt work, but i didnt expect it to anyway. does anyone know what i could do without installing xulrunner systemwide? also keep in mind that i cant use the package manager as portage doesnt have xulrunner anymore, and again i dont want it systemwide. thanks.

Question.

What's the difference between a modular PSU and a regular PSU?

Need to swap the current one, and i could get a modular for the same price as the regular version.
>>
>>53803071
modular just means the cable detach from the PSU
>>
>>53803112
Alright.

Probably not the best place to ask, but i assume the CX600 is a decent PSU for the shekels?
>>
>>53802259
Chrome remote desktop is better than teamviewer
>>
>>53803071
It's way easier to assemble a PC with a fully modular PSU because you can arrange the cables however you want. non-modular or semi-modular can't hold a candle to ease of use.

What's objectively the best Linux distro?

Also, what is the most used distro?

My Uni uses Fedora in the college labs, but people I spoke with uses Ubuntu.

Is there any performance difference between all of them or is there some with more features than the other?

>>
>>53803162
>What's objectively the best Linux distro?
Depends on your use case.

>Also, what is the most used distro?
Probably Ubuntu now.

>Is there any performance difference between all of them or is there some with more features than the other?
Too broad of a question, but short answer no.

>asking for my DNS services thing. What am i supposed to do with this?
Setup a DNS server / rent a DNS server and setup your zone. If this puzzles you then you need learn how DNS works first.

>>53803250
Doesn't matter, it's probably some south american country where the cops wouldn't give a fuck.
>>
>>53803171
You have to point your domain to an IP address that the website is hosted on. That's what DNS does.
>>
>>53803162
debian based distro (ubuntu and mint for example) are easier to learn and have a great community behind them. fedora is more for programmer or coder for what i know.

if i can recommend you a distro, it would be ubuntu gnome or linux mint.
>>
>>53803162
>objectively
arch
>most used
ubuntu
>is there any performance/feature difference
yes and no. Yes, there are major differences out of the box. however, you can customize a distro to behave like pretty much any other distro.
>>
>>53803280
Been trying to make he switch to linux, but been encountering some problems. I installed from a minimal debian installation image and now I face problems like short battery life and over heating...

Any advice?

>>
>>53803346
what are the pc specs? if they are mid range, mint shoud go very well.
if they are so-so i recommend lubuntu (the lightest *buntu distro).

I'm running debian with LXDE...
Still overheating.
And the laptop isn't bad. Has a i5-2467M, Radeon HD 7550M, 6 GB of ram.

are you using some heavy programs? maybe try running a live ubuntu or mint and see if overheating is still there. maybe you can try fedora too.

My girlfriend of 1½ years wants to see other people, but is willing to still be with me, if I don't mind her dating other guys. I would of course also get to be polyamorous.

If I could get myself to enjoy it, I think it could be a good solution. Thing is, my heart sunk when she told me that she had a tinder date lined up.

WAT DO
>>
>>53803504
Fuck that. Send it in to best buy anyway and tell them the HDD is dying in the first place. You're the reason why people who leave retail work are so jaded and mistrustful of the everyday customer.
>>
>>53803504
maybe fuck with one of the fans to make it fry. you could stick a match in one of the vents, or open it and wiggle a wire out (if that doesn't break warranty).

cat5 question

not a native english speaker, looking for correct terms in english

we have two kinda of category to choose from when it comes to ethernet cable and I dont mean shielded, or cat5 / cat6...

the terms we use are "kabel" vs "lanko" which translates kinda to

>wire/cable
hard to bend, behaves kinda like thick cable that holds bend and resists more and you would have hard time tighing a knot on it if you would for some reason want. its used most of the time.

>rope/string
easy to bend, aimed at interconencting devices for short distance, patch cables, behaves more like a shoelace than a cable, it can be knotted if for some reason you would want it as it resists less. its pain in the ass to put rj45 connector on it

also those two supposedly have different connectors, pic related
i want to google more on this two variants but without knowing the english term for the ropey one I cant..

I currently dual boot Debian and Windows 8.1 for some gayms. What should I do with W8?

a) Disable all updates.
b) Disable all updates, except the security ones.
c) Enable all updates, but remove the ones that are marked as spyware (e.g. in the /g/ wiki).

All previous options include using the Aegis script. Is this a wise move?

I have a RasPi working as a WiFi access point with IP forwarding on and some iptables rules to bridge traffic inbetween 2 different wifi interfaces.

At some point I had DHCP running on it, but now I don't; neither udhcpd or DNSmasq services are running.

The thing is, even without DHCP, I can still connect to it without it being connected to a router.

Does this mean I can just install hostapd and set up IP forwarding and network bridging to connect to it, without ever having to configure DHCP? Or is there something running in the background I'm not aware of?

why? why did this happen

this is not the first time this happened, neither is it the first time it's happened on this HDD, but thia is the first time I've been able to confirm it happens without any user input.

Seriously, MPC-HC sould be fine if you install and configure the codecs properly
>>

well I have no idea about that other pkayer that has constant generals going for it, but stock MPC-HC isn't that great, imo. my PC wasonly able to play 1080p videos flawlessly once switching from stock MPC-HC to KPC (Kawaii Codec Pack).

perhaps since kawaii codec pack optimizes video playback, it will optimize resource usage as well. but for that matter, there is a setting in MPC-HC to use the gpu exclusively for video playback when watching in full-screen if thst would help, any.

I was initially annoyed at the new layout of 4chan, but I got over it when I realized that the annoying random pieces of text being turned into hyper links weren't actually part of the joke. I'm normally very careful when it comes to downloading stupid shit so I've never actually had to deal with adware specifically, I've got my anti-virus performing a full system scan but seeing as it's going to be at least a couple of hours until that's finished I'm not sure what to do in the mean time.

well, I couldn't be arsed to even try that shit until 2013 when I was arguing with someone and like four or five+ people were shitposting replying to me/ shitposting about me without even quoting me, and it was disgusting. so I tried reporting the one dude who was actually semi-attempting to leave argument replies for me, but I successfully reported two of his posts, so I just gave up n never tried again. >>
I need to scrap some data that is essentially a many to many table, and I'm looking for the most efficient way to do so.

To simplify the problem, lets say it's a many to many table between on/off switches and a page.
It takes 1 web request to turn the switch on or off, or 1 web request can them all off at once.
Each page is connected to a number of switches. It will report how many switches that it is connected to are "on".

I have 300 switches, and 100 pages to check.
An obvious (and inefficient) way to do this is to turn each switch on one at a time and check all 100 pages.
This will take 300 "on" requests + 299 "off" requests + 300*100 "page" request. The web server takes approximately 1/3rd of a second to do an on/off request and 2/3rds of a second to do a page load. That turns into ~600 * 1/3 + 30,000 * 2/3 = 20,200 seconds = ~5.6 hours.

How can I do better? I'm trying to think of some binary grouping approach, but it's hard to conceptualize. Note this mapping is pretty sparse, and particularly weighted. I have the switches in approximate greatest to least weighted order.

What the FUCK is happening with my CPU? I'm using the stock cooler for it and can't get it to report normal temps. BIOS says it's running at 30c, Speccy shoots at 80-90c, overdrive puts thermal margin around 30 which if the Tj.Max is 70 according to CoreTemp should mean it's running ~50c. HWMonitor reports the same as Speccy. Why is it running at such high frequency pretty much all the time? What's with the multiplier?
After I changed the thermal paste BIOS temp went from 50c to the aforementioned 30 but Speccy and HWMonitor jumped from idle 70s to idle 80-90s.
NO throttling takes place when I play intensive games (Twitcher 3, GTA V, WoW) and I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong with my PC.

Just get a I5-6400 or I5-6500 and you wont upgrade in a long time.

The extra $50-70 you will spend on the CPU will be worth it with the time since i doubt you will upgrade in the next 2 years.

/^\[ \d{4}\.\d{2}\.\d{2} \d{2}:\d{2}:\d{2} \] .* > .*$/gm

It works pretty well, but is there a way to not match lines with a specific username ?

Then a Quad core CPU will be perfect for it.

For something budget gaming sets use either a I5-4460 or a I5-6400.

I had to replace my asus p7p55d deluxe with a standard p7p55d, do I have to format and reinstall windows (I'm running 7)?
If I have to, can I just reinstall windows on top of the existing one or do I have to completely format the disk and wipe everything?
Do I risk to damage my hardware in case I don't do it?
System boots fine, but I'm scared of burning the motherboard, but at the same time I don't have enough space to backup all I want to backup since my storage disk is full at the moment.
My current plan is to try removing old drivers and install new ones from asus.

No but its really recommendable if you ever change motherboard.
Would be better to backup everything and do a clean install.
More like just system instability.

TeamViewer is a completely different thing. It can't use RDP. It requires the client on both machines. On the other hand, if you wanted to remote into machines outside your LAN you would be out of luck while using RDP. (In most cases)
>>
>>53814103
Well then, a I5-6400 will be perfect for it, you would bottleneck the I3 with a high end card eventually.

You do need to focus on a powerful GPU because that is what will tell you for how much time you will be able to run games at max settings without problems, but its not use if you have a high end card bottlenecked by a low end CPU.

>>53804730
Disable all updates.
You dont need them.

Just update once, also search recent "Malware" updates, the ones that force you windows 10.

Never update Drivers trough windows update.

Then disable them.

Because I have no space left, and I don't feel comfortable in backing things up on usb sticks.
I am using my main hdd as a single partition because I thought that I'd be good sorting all the things in the storage, but turns out that compulsive hoarding will fill 2TB pretty quickly.
I could delete some data from the storage and backup the important things, but I prefer getting another disk and do it later.

Do these dips in read speed mean my HDD is dying?

I just fucking got the thing. Like, actually, I got it two-ish days ago and have only been installing Windows Updates since I got it. But, my PC keeps crashing when I'm attempting to install Windows Updates.

at first I blamed the aforementioned crashes on my computer temps- which were 80 across the board save for the HDD, which as at 40- but my PC just crashed twice in a row. The first time it was during Windows Update when I tried to browse explorer- which I attributed to low RAM, since I've been getting notifications about that. But then I booted the PC, and after Windows finished configuring updates, the PC straight crashed when I started typing into the URLbar of Firefox. so I went ahead and installed the program in pic related and ran it to check if the HDD was poor.

The entire reason my last HDD was suspected of going bad was due to constant crashes, and read speeds betraying their dipping extremely low, as to 15. Apparently read speeds of 5-10mb/s causes the HDD to crash. Not impressed. I hope I didn't just straight-out-of-the-box get a piece of shit faulty excuse for an HDD.

gonna try pushing it inside the PC further, just in case I was too paranoid when it came to installing it, or something...

thanks but I don't need to worry about drivers, for now. the main thing is just my graphics drivers since my laptop's a Thinkpad with interchangable graphics, so I need drivers to swap them on the fly, and the drivers for my trackpoint. anything else I just use whatever I get from windows update, i think. I don't recall needing to do anything more last time.

Post S.M.A.R.T. data. Try updating the HDD framework. HGST drives are known to be extremely reliable. I'd fault everything else beforehand.
>>
>>53815730
Well SMART doesn't show anything bad.
Try a surface read test, i think its the Error scan option in HD Tune, it will last around 1-2 hours.

You should also try to use a Linux USB, if you notice problems while using it its not your HDD.
>>
>>53815793
>>53815730
But the speed test does, you should RMA your HDD.

Its really rare to see a bad HGST HDD.

yeah, I just saw a thread on /g/ just the other day about Hirachi HDD reliability. but I don't know what updating HDD framework entails. I'll get on that, though.

maybe I should finish updating Windows before running the test again... I have it running right now. maybe if all the standard updates are done, the HDD'll perform as is standard on these tests.

>>53815793
>Try a surface read test, i think its the Error scan option in HD Tune, it will last around 1-2 hours.

ok, will do. I'll do it right now, but I'll do it again later after I've finished catching up on Windows updates and have nothing else of the sort in progress in case it's skewing the results.

>>53815817
>This. Or get an mhdd iso and test it there with much less interference from the OS/random drivers.

I'll do that later, then. If the HDD can do well on the test in Windows then I wouldn't need to boot from a usb just to do a test. I'm really just now kinda paranoid of the idea that maybe Windows Updates might be skewing the test results, but it's not like I know anything about tech...

thank you everyone for all the replies, and help. Cheers. hopefully I don't have to return this thing

Its highly probable it got damaged in shipping or just were unlucky enough to get a factory damaged one.

The speed spikes are insane in the second image you posted, it is indeed a damaged HDD.

My damaged WD HDD has 23000 hours and still kicking and doesn't drop like that at all.

>The speed spikes are insane in the second image you posted, it is indeed a damaged HDD.
>My damaged WD HDD has 23000 hours and still kicking and doesn't drop like that at all.

yeah... when my last HDD was dying, it only had really infrequent drops in read speed. I actually asked the /sqt/ thread about a month and a half ago when it started crashing constantly if it was dying, and they helped deduce the problem:

https://archive.rebeccablacktech.com/g/thread/S52995546#p53003615
https://archive.rebeccablacktech.com/boards/g/img/0529/95/1455593619234.jpg

and, I posted my HD Tune test in the screenshot above. so, this HDD is likely totally fucked, then, and I'll need to return it no matter what... but, I guess as long as I'm not compromising my ability to return the thing, I'll still try doing my best to give the HDD a fair shake on these tests, even though shit looks grim
>>
>>53815925
Wait for Windows to finish updating. It can mess with read/write speeds if it's downloading at a significant speed. Then defragment it and re-run the tests. Amazon has really shit standard shipping which don't bode well for hard disks a lot of the times. If the spikes are still there RMA it.As the consumer your data and satisfaction are more important than their convenience.
>>
>>53815925
You wont be able to use that HGST HDD at all.

Its FUBAR, just return it for a new one.

>>53815972
Windows updates dont make your read speeds to drop to 512KB/s.
>>
>>53815972

thank you for the tips, and for confirming that having Windows Updates running while I do the test may skew the HD Tune Pro results. and, yeah. not gonna deal with my product being severely damaged in shipping due to low priority. what the fuck.

thank you again, but at this point I'm sitting on a test that's estimated to take two hours to finish, and it'll take like literally 24 hours to finish checking for, downloading, then installing Windows Updates, then defragging (to finally enable me to do these tests without anything possibly skewing results, so I think I just need time, now. thanks again. thank you everyone for your time

I'm trying to apply deep neural nets to decensoring hentai. I currently have 30000+ images for training data. The plan is to manually censor all 30000+ images, and the censorship method is complete censorship (i.e. large black rectangles) and not mosaic censorship. These censored images will be used as input, and the original uncensored images will be compared against the output. I'd like some advice going forward:

1. Are there performance issues if I parse each image while training/testing? Should I convert them to a csv file or stick them in a database?
2. What legal ramifications are there if my training data consists of copyrighted images?
3. What's a good machine library to use for this? Most of my machine learning experience used WEKA and ABAGAIL, but I want to move to better performing libraries.
4. Are there other architectures better suited for this problem? Is it a good idea to formulate the problem as an image inpainting one? Afaik, image inpainting algorithms fall into two categories: diffusion based methods and sparse representations using dictionaries. Both methods seem to have problems inpainting the center of large censored regions. Something similar to a DCGAN used to make this picture could work.

Any other suggestions are welcome.
