Give me three good reasons not to charge your laptop with solar power.

I live in a basement

Independence.
>>
live in kamchatka dont see the sun for months
>>
electricity is cheap
and literally anyplace where you would use a laptop outside, they're gonna have a wall outlet for you to use.
>>
too much space required

theres no sun in England.

night
have to carry the panels

1 - Temperate Rain Forest
2 - Currently impractical (this will change soon) with existing technology
3 - No laptop

How's it going to charge if I never leave the basement?
>>
>>53798287
It's my laptop, not yours. End of story.

My country gets almost all its energy from renewable sources and if I'm far enough away from a socket that battery life is an issue then I probably won't be using my laptop.
>>53798349
Best answer ITT.
>>
Has Solar cracked 50% energy conversion efficiency yet?
>>
>>53798297
It's more free than charging on a wall outlet and paying an electricity bill.

>>53798287
> not using a wind-powered, water, and solar powered charging system.
Lol good luck with your 5% an hour charging speeds
>>
Your picture shows the precise reason why: it takes up too much space. Widespread solar will never take off for that very reason.
>>
>>53798621
More like Solar panels are make from really dangerous materials and their carbon footprint is bigger than just using coal.
>>
>>53798621
We just need to make laptops out of sun, and just power the laptop sun with solar panels.

> year 1843+173

Just convinced me why not to.

Assuming it costs $300 for the equipment to properly charge a laptop, then at 15 cents a kilowatt it would take you more charges than the life of the laptop to break even. Also the carbon footprint would be higher going solar.

>My country gets almost all its energy from renewable sources
what country is that?
>>
the ROI for solar panels is many years and the money you eventually save is not significant. If you want to do it for independence from the grid, ok.
>>
>>53798287
1 - it takes forever
2 - it takes forever
3 - it takes forever

I'm planning on buying a big battery bank and a small panel soon. I'll probably never really use it, but being able to use my lappy in case of widespread power outages is a real possible problem in tornado alley.

I think we can all agree that in the event of a zombie apocalypse, then yes solar is good.
>>
>>53798287
Right in your picture OP.
>Needs a lot of space
>Needs to be outside
>Needs to use a mac

i can't. But i won't be lugging all that shit around. I just use a backup power bank, it gives me around 6 hours of charging.

Electricity is really cheap in my country.

I guess If I lived off the grid a solar power solution would be viable.
>>
>>53798287
Because Oracle.
>>
It's inefficient
It's slow
It's expensive
It doesn't work in any weather besides "sunny"
It's heavy
It wont work indoors
It's Xbox hueg
It's fragile
>>

>It's inefficient
>It's slow
solved by the panel count

>It's Xbox hueg
>It's fragile
>It's Xbox hueg
>It's fragile
keep it in your car
>It doesn't work in any weather besides "sunny"
>It wont work indoors
see above
>>
>>53798287
The power needed to produce those solar panels alone is many times bigger than any electronic device could ever consume in its lifetime
>>
>>53799469
just because it isn't green doesn't make it useless.
>>
>>53798287
It's nice if the power goes out, but it's too bulky to carry around something big enough to power a laptop. Plus to get batteries small and light enough would be really cost inefficient.
