Is it worth it?
>>
Yeah u get 2 to 3 degrees from it
>>
Okay now post pcitures where the die gets ripped off with the heatsink
>>
>>53791069
That only happens with soldered dies, Intel rarely does that. That's AMD's thing

>>53791282

Why is this a question? Jesus if you want to do it do it like anon suggests. You ain't gonna have a warranty anymore, but you obviously don't care about that. Now if only we could get Intel to use better thermal compound
>>
>>53791542
It does go right back on you autist
Implying Intel's warranty was good anyway

>>
>>53791449
It is. Intel use soldering on their i7 with 6 cores (i.e. 5820k, 5960x). I believe Xeons as well.

And I've seen some post quite a long time ago that AMD APUs are not soldered and are using some thermal interface similar to Intel consumer grade processors nowadays.
>>
>>53791606
Isn't that like an upvote or some shit like in 2ch?
>>
>>53790842
This is fucking horrible. Do not do this to your CPU. Even if you did gain 2-3 degrees from it, who fucking cares... That's not worth risking your CPU unless it's an old one you don't care about.
>>
>>53790842
I destroyed two i5-3570K this way. Not because of the delidding process but because the chip becomes vulnerable to pressure and rough handling after being delidding.
The rough handling was because I was testing other heatsinks on it.
>>
>>53790842
no.
>>
>>53791558
Try not to pull your chip apart

Xeons E5,7 and 8 is soldered.

Xeon E3 is a same shit thermal paste.

Yes it's totally worth it.

I'm able to play games without frying my motherboard.

only if you are OCing to unstable, if you are going stable there is not enough benefits.

>>
>>53792247
How would I do that when my chip isn't soldered
>>
>>53790842

I've done it once to a Haswell i3 as an experiment. This was well after Intel switched to using thermal paste instead of fluxless solder, but before they started useless "better" TIM.

Best advice I can give you is do not, I repeat, DO NOT use the razor blade method. When people talk about fucking up their CPU's from de-lidding, it's because of people doing it that way. I don't have personal experience from it, but from what I understand, even the most minute scratch on the die can and will ruin it.

Use the wooden block and vice grip method (YouTube it). Yes, it sounds scary, but I was surprised how easy it was and it probably took a whole 5 minutes to do. It made about a 10 degree difference once I was done.

I've seen people with one upvote. I have no clue how they get it though, since the weebrunes are filtered.

It's an upboat :^)
>>
>>53792566
webm yourself upboating someone
>>
>>53792533
Um, it does look kinda similar. But it's solid layer between CPU and heat spreader so if you will try to delid it - you will end up breaking the CPU same way as you can see on that picture.

>>53792523
Totally agree on razor method being the worst out there. Most CPUs have small transistors around the die and they are going off instantly if you put any pressure on them with razor blade.

This looked like the best method to me. You just use a razor to get a groove in. Vice scares me because people have flinged their chip against the wall.

What's the best thermal material to use once you've delided and are putting it back together?
>>
>>53791069
That only happens with a soldered die, but if your CPU has its die soldered to the IHS, there's very little reason to want to delid it in the first place, because thermal conductivity should already be very good.

Delidding is only worth attempting if you've got a CPU with crap TIM between the die and IHS, instead of being soldered, such as Intel's mainstream CPUs. Those haven't been soldered since Sandy Bridge.

>>53792933
That's supposedly very risky if there are any SMD components underneath the IHS.

Anyway I'd say delidding isn't worth attempting unless you make a hobby out of OCing/benchmarking. With conventional air/water cooling you'll probably get another 200-300MHz out of the CPU if you're lucky and willing to push the voltage up. Good for benchmarking and bragging rights maybe, but if that's not what you're after I sincerely doubt you'd notice the difference.

>>53792297
Tell me something:
Do your kind just save every tiny little picture or gif you find on the internet to use when the right comment comes along? How are people like you always online at the right time to post the right picture? Is it coordinated between a group of people? Are you paid to do this, and if so, who in the group actually makes the dough and distributes it to everyone else in the group?
>>
>>53794155
Liquid metal > MX4 or any other thermal paste.
Liquid metal is conductive so you should apply it with precaution, I'd suggest to read/watch proper application guides on manufacturer web-site or youtube before you do anything with it.
Also, if you are building a new system you might also check out latest Z-series motherboards as some of them are now including special protective frame to allow using your delidded cpu without heat spreader and not risking damaging the cpu.
>>
>>53792046
That's lapping.
Delid dropped 20C
>>
>>53792523
>but before they started useless "better" TIM.
the issue isn't the TIM, it's the spacing between die and the lid. Intel fucked with the glue or something and it causes a tiny gap
