I am going to buy the best pascal card but definitely not asap. Their top of the line cards wont come out until a few months after the first pascal card drops. Also never buy first generation hardware, wait for the bugs to get worked out and let other people burn their houses down first.

R580 and Tahiti would be the prime examples. As far as longevity is concerned I think Tahiti is the greatest GPU since G80/G92. It was a bit slower than GK104 at first but thanks to driver optimizations it now blows it the fuck out of the water; GK104 is completely irrelevant while the 7970 GHz Edition is now considerably closer to the GTX 780 than to the GTX 680 in performance.
RV770 wrecked NVIDIA on price and efficiency and RV870 had a massive time advantage on top of both of those.
Hawaii ended up squeaking just past GK110 at stock once later driver revisions came out but GK110 is a strong enough overclocker to be able to make up for that; OC vs OC the 780 Ti will beat the 290X/390X most of the time.
Fiji came a few percent short of truly competing with GM200, especially considering the difference in overclock potential between the two, but there's no reason to think AMD can't pull off beating NVIDIA again. It's not like the CPU game where they're legitimately fucked.

The Fiji series is a clear failure of AMD, for many reasons.
I expect soon a card to be released that is atleast as fast as the R9 390 paired with the power consumption of a GTX 960.
